Donny, I was a volleyball coach myself, and one thing I would like to share with you is before you swing your arm to make contact with the ball, tug in your other arm with palm/fist into the center of your chest, this way your can turn faster and generate more power as you swing and spike the ball. You will find yourself have more control and can hit harder when needed. Hope this helps.

Iam kinda confused do you mean with your offhand after you swing your offhand down instead of going to the side go to your chest?

@@elephantmocha4104 I believe he is talking about your off hand, the one not hitting the ball. So that hand can have something to do and be more controlled.

@@isaacmasterpro3116 yeah that’s what I’m hearing too. Kind of reminds me of a figure skater when they bring their arms in they can really rotate/spin. Donnie does bring his arm down just not as tight as the op suggested.

+ElevateYourselfNow So nice having a response from You ! Of course Wlazły is outstanding striker, everybody are missing him. But we are looking forward for the future because we expect Michał Winiarski to come back to the team, and also we are waiting for Wilfredo Leon, who is obviously cuban, but want's to play for Poland. After these two reinforcements we should be able to claim the throne once again. Until that time, I will be playing volleyball remembering all Your advices, sharing this knowledge (and videos) with my friends, and I hope for more and more videos. But tbh there is so much content on your channel right now that I hope You will figure smth out to keep exisiting on yt for another months/years :) Keep well !

Thanks Donny. I watched this before my Thursday game last night and I really improved my spike. I have really been hitting wrong for a long time. Because of this video and a few others I have fixed my approach, keeping my palm open, and keeping my wrist loose instead of stuff. Huge improvement! I got some really great spikes.

Wow! These videoes skipped my feed, and this explains a lot! I have a tip for you! If you have or know someone with an Iphone 6 or 6s (Not sure if Iphone 5 has this), you can use the slow function on the camera. It will capture up to 240 fps in action, which is perfect for a biomechanical analysis! As you probably know, slowing down regular footage to try and show contact point of the ball will make it quite blurry. We just tested this feature at school and it's pretty amazing! It should be easy enough to transfer it to a computer through your USB, and then mix it into other footages (Note: I have no experience doing this myself, but it was pretty easy to do at school). Hope it helps!

Hey coach, I noticed that there are a bunch of people who say that snapping the wrist isn't actually possible because the contact with the ball happens too fast, as stated by a research. What do you think about that? They say that you just have to hit the ball over the center to make it spin but during the downball exercise it seems to me that you make the ball go high (not like a spike) and you still manage to make it spin, but it doesn't seem that you hit it over the equator

Hi Coach Donny, First of all I want to thank you for all of your great videos. They help me so much! Secondly, I have a question about topspin on a ball: how do you get the ball to clear the net when putting topspin on it, behind the ten-foot line? In my experience, when I put topspin on a ball (or try to, at least) the ball just arcs downwards and never clears. When I hit the ball far back enough, I can't get it to clear unless it's a floater. Another question about spiking in general: is a jumping spike/hit always a better option than a standing hit? Sometimes I have more control over the ball when I don't jump and just hit the ball, and even though it may not be as fast or as steep (in terms of angle) it's still pretty powerful (or about as powerful as I'm gonna get, being a complete beginner). I'm 14 years old and 5 feet 11 inches. But thanks to your videos, I'm working on improving my jump height anyways :) Thanks again! --Anthony

Thanks for sharing mate! I have just some doubts about directing the ball under the net. I have already seen that and for sure is a good drill to improve snapping, but i always wondering if this could be dangerous for young players, by learning a way to hit ball that never happens on a volleyball court. I usually put them one to one forward with the goal to directing the ball above the net; in alternative, for a good snapping, i put them against the wall, sometimes with an obstacle located at about one meter. What do you think about it? Thanks anyway for your precious contribute. Ciao

Hey Coach...I have seen the videos on footwork, timing, arm swing and contact...do you have a simple breakdown of ball location when spiking. I see mistakes where people either get under the ball and spike it long or are too far behind the ball and end up spiking it into the net. Was just wondering if you had a breakdown of proper relationship between the hitter and the ball when spiking.
