I know I've flown the scenario multiple times, but this time we are talking about the sensor overhaul and what all that stuff on the radar means.

The USS Freedom is a nuclear-powered aircraft supercarrier, which serves as a naval main operating base and can carry various aircraft and helicopters on board. In terms of in-game functionality, the ship is a static object that can be positioned across the map via the 3D Scenario Editor, but cannot be 'driven'. The carrier supports catapult take-offs and tailhook landings, and features functional autonomous defensive weapon systems.

For those who want to know you use the Bracket Keys [ ] to open up the side radar, or sensor, or missle camera, or other units that your airplane has.

Use R or reveal target command instead of the lock button. It will cycle through available targets. Much easier than pointing the jet directly at it to lock it. Alternatively, you can level off at like 1500m and use your Multifunction Camera MFC to lock the tartlets and then turn in for your attack. There will be a dash circle on you HUD showing you were your MFC is looking. LCTRL T is default to lock the MFC on a position. You can adjust with your mouse when using it. This helps you keep awareness of an enemy position even if not using the laser. However not using the laser means that you have to adjust for the range manually or by eye for your gun. If you use the laser, you will get a point to aim at to hit target area.

+Hotwheelz_McG I actually do use reveal travel more than lock. The camera is how I id 80% of what I intend to kill, too. It's a definite must in any ground attack mission. Good to know on the HUD thing, I didn't know there was an indicator where it was pointing. I always used the sensor panel to see.

Sensor panel tells you direction it's pointing the hud display shows exactly where it is pointing.

Bottom line, it's about time ARMA got some more realistic hud displays and sensors. We actually have a better bomb sight too for just dropping the bombs. Line down to a circle where it will impact.

Honorable landing. Shoot for about 200-220km/h don't aim the jet so much. Use that little circle with the wings and vert tail is your aircrafts direction of travel. At this speed that circle should be low, so nose up and put just above the back of the carrier. As you get closer, keep that circle on the arresting cable area. Keep it there all the way and you'll catch the wires perfectly. Use the ILS lines on approach but as you get to that last 3-400m's shift attention to the meatball on the left of your dash, keep it yellow, and your flight path indicator (that little circle) as you practice you'll be able to just look at the circle and notice the colors of the meatball/glideslope indicator. Yes i know the meat ball is actually the glideslope lights on the left rear of the carrier but i don't believe the render well if at all on arma. Anyway, red means your low, yellow is good, green means your high.

DreadwingOne no problem. Most people starting off come in too shallow. You should stay around 500m on approach and the start decent about 1-3km out. Best way to do it fly level at 500 until the glidslope indicator runs yellow. Then adjust from there with throttle. Cut throttle briefly, the slowing raise it a little to maintain glideslope.

Have you been able to lock Macer Missiles? I can't get a lock on for my life.

+Kimi if memory serves correctly macers are IR missiles so the target has to be "hot" to lock on. It could also be a big, too. I actually haven't been able to play since about May as I've been away from my kit so I'm really out of date on info

It's my understanding that the radar is fixed for each aircraft. One might have 16km and one might have 4km. I'm not sure you can adjust the range of it.

The range on your radar is dependent on the vehicle you are in. Some aircraft have longer ranges than others.

Im having some problems with my Jets. I can not seem to turn on the radar. And im not getting the scroll wheel for left and right panel mode. Help?

I think radar by default is CTRL+R but you'll have to check your key bindings to make sure. The panels by default are [ for left and ] for right to cycle, and CTRL+[ and CTRL+] for mode, left and right respectively.

I have nordic keyboard so the [ and ] is not possible on my keyboard for me so I have to use nordic keys but thx gonna check that out ;)

aye, best bet is to check what your key bindings are in game and if you need to, customize it to what works for you. I hope you get it sorted!

Is this Jet "upgrade/rework" better with joystick or is it harder now to use a joystick? I was considering buying a joystick since I love flying but for me its feels unatural to use the mouse to fly so I use the keyboard but it is harder to fly a jet now then it was before this dlc. What is your opinion on this?

+Sack I have always preferred a joystick in any game I can fly in, even battlefield. They didn't really change the flight physics much, if at all, with the dlc. I would say if you're thinking about it start small with like a TM HOTAS X or something, that'll run you around $50. There are much cheaper ones out there though that will probably get the job done.

How do people fly so straight and level..? I use a joystick and my plane always seems to dip down or up.. And how the heck do you lock a target and make your camera follow it?! I am in camera mode, press T on a target and then fire a missile and it just flies straight and doesnt fly towards the target. What am I doing wrong?

+Ian Jespersen Ctrl+t will lock the camera, as far as flying itself you just gotta practice :)

Nice vid mate. could you go into more detail though please? I mean stuff like how the waypoint marker works on the HMD as when it said wp4 the distance didn't correspond with the 2 markers by the ship, is it possible to lock onto a ground target in the full screen pod then come out of it & see the target on the left hand sensor? how about doing a video on everything to do with the cockpit? - like that green box on the left hand side with the line moving back & forth? is that where the radar sensor should be if BIS could make it so? how about making a CAS mission where you have to find & destroy ground targets including Infantry to show how the black wasp copes with that sort of mission as no one has tried that yet I think.

Thanks! I'm not very good at the editor, so it will be a very rudimentary mission. The wp4 on the HUD is something I believe must be programmed into the mission as it guides you to your next "task". It is possible to lock on with the TGP and then still see it on the panel while you fly the craft but the draw distance is very short so if you are high up you may not see anything but fog. The green box is where the radar would be scanning in real life, in Arma it is just there as an aesthetic. Hope this helps!

I'll have a basic flight combat mission up soon mate you can use to show people the ropes. As for the waypoints yes they're editor based however when you use the Shift-LMB on the map it will create a HMD symbol on the HMD and give you a distance to your self-created waypoint. :)

+CNazario Vizcaino unfortunately there's no manual that I know of for the dlc. They did publish an OPREP that goes over all the updates that were implemented though, that's about the closest you'll get to a manual. You can get to it through the A3 launcher.

In the editor they are under BLUFOR/OPFOR/Independent->planes, or you can download a mission that already uses the jet.
