Arma Reforger Is Making A HUGE Comeback

Just got it on PS5. I was worried that the aiming was going to be rough like the other ports of tactical PC games (insurgency & hell let loose), but I’m so happy how smooth and precise you can be without having to have a super low sensitivity. It feels like this game was made for consoles. I even kinda like the motion controls for zoom. You can get very precise with it.

I'm kinda jealous of the PS5 motion controller. I'd say its made for consoles in mind, which I'm fine with radial menus and not using every single key on the keyboard.

You're on drugs the Insurgency gunplay is so much better than arma. Sometimes it feels like you have to shoot someone a whole mag for the bullets to register and the servers keep crashing I love arma reforger play it regularly but its got a long ways to go.

Updates to the game did bring more people on pc but let's be honest, the resurgence of more players are actually due to it being available on ps5 now. More importantly, people are very desperate and thirsty for this type of game which is unique and rare on consoles. Like I said, big chunks of players who play this game is now ps5 players but I really hope they don't give up easily as there's learning curve (especially with the navigation which really does require update) to bring optimization but also fix the UI controls and interface.

​@@MillerXinanot on console. It's clunky and slow. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love insurgency but your character feels like he's big chungus on diabetes with how slow he is. Let's also not mention the over the top recoil which is clunky to control. On the other hand , people on pc can actually manage and shoot better which is diabolical considering there's pc cross play.

I know everyone is crying for mods but I really want the base game to be good FIRST. Honestly, locking PS5 players out of mods allows them to test the base game more efficiently. I want a good base game that doesn't need mods to be enjoyable. For me it was Arma 3 itself that failed to keep me invested and mods didn't really help much. Arma Reforger has kept me in and primarily play vanilla. Looking forward to the next update!

Well your in luck the road map is nearing the end 😅 idk if that's what your waiting for, because inevitably with the new expansive updates in the works the vanilla game is still going to be a bit of an experience to work through at points. Most of the time it's amazing already so I say download it, load her up, and try a few matches. Be patient though the learning curve is quite steep.

Maybe things have changed (I don't keep up with the console scene very much), but I thought Sony gimped modding capabilities on the PlayStation. Like, you are allowed mods, but what the mods can do is severely limited compared to what xbox allows. Or maybe I'm getting it backwards.

Except mod support can fix the base game. Games that have good mod support never die. Many of the major issues with any game or quality of life improvements are always done quicker by the community through modding. It gives more power to the community.

Coming over from Squad I find one thing crazy and it’s the whole 3rd person perspective in PVP thing. Kinda hard to be competitive and realistic when a guy you’re fighting is using the “out of body experience” to see round corners without peaking. I think that sucks and servers need to start disabling 3rd person perspective if they can.

Most servers do, it's really rare to find servers that actually have it enabled with a good modlist (my preferred style). WCS servers are first person locked and pretty high quality.

Me and my brother just bought the game on steam last weekend. Damn, we spent our Sunday only playing one match that lasted about 6 hours. Disconnected a few times, but absolutely playable. We had so much fun just building bases and getting supplies. Awesome community that helped us alot and explaining things.

@SirIronbeard gave it a quick skim and it looks to be the most authentic I've ever seen on any video game. There's a lot of math that goes into it irl. The compass / protractor bit does a good job of getting the bare bone basics down. There's a lot missing but I don't necessarily think it would be that fun or interesting to include it

Also Bohemia needs to fix bipod. My rifle shouldn’t lay lower than what it would, if I was holding it by hand rather than using the bipod. There’s like a two or 3 inch difference. Lay down at Doya bipod nine times out of 10 you have grass blocking your sites. But if held by hand it’s barely covering your sites

I'm one of the 400 players that kept playing pretty much since release. Conflict was quite fun as soon as the server disconnects were fixed and the game has gotten better and better. The electrical grid really is a wildcard and I'm curious where they want to go with it. Disabling spawn points does not make much sense right now, as the whole base is powered by generators (e.g. radio relays). What I can imagine is it could affect the military bases and harbors and disable the refilling of supply points in them. I hope they have a plan for it, because if it's mainly just streetlights in parts of the map and maybe radio towers that get shut down, I would be disappointed.

I just got Reforger yesterday with some friends and it left me with kinda mixed feelings. On the one hand the FPS is phenomonal getting a constant 60 FPS in arma is insane. Also the little interaction blips inside of vehicles are super immersive. But right now i find the limited arsenal in vanilla (be that vehicle or small arms) dissapointing. Even though modding could add this i would prefer the arsenal to be wider as vanilla would offer higher stabilty and access to all players. But as you said yourself more content like the LAV is on the way! I hope they keep up their work and maybe even add some AA options (perhaps an igla or stinger?). I have not that much time to play video games and also don't like games like dayz for example, where you have to continously fight to not die because of hunger, thirst, infects or similar. Therefore I was not sure if a milsim like Arma Reforger is the right game for me. Anyway, I bought it for PS5 and man I love this game! I have never had such intense gun fights and also can't remember any game on console where people communicate so much.

Took me 22 hours of game time to master everything from flying, favourite setup,shooting rpgs at moving veichles from other side the field and navigating the map. It has got its connectivity issues not all the time though not enough to p**s me off though. I can say if you like this type of game and willing to put the time,effort and paitence in it is well worth it won't want put that controller down.

Had it on PC years ago, but it was too buggy for me. When I saw it came out on ps5, I bought it with friends and it was very fun. Bought it yesterday again on PC for mods. It's becoming a good game/demo for Arma4, I'm loving it. Can't wait for arma 4.

Yeah... At 15 fps. 128 players now struggle when a few bases are built and shooting and helicopters flying around. The sweet spot for me is 80 players.

I've basically completely sworn off Arma 3 at this point. I'll usually just say I don't have the space to install it when people ask if I want to play, but honestly I just can't go back anymore. Arma 3 REALLY shows its age now that we have a stable experience in Reforger, and while there's still a long way to go there's no better way to experience the future of Arma

The performance on console is questionable but this is the first time arma has ever been on console and considering its a different version of the infusion engine than what dayz console version is on id say they've done ok but still not as good as arma 3 and we gotta think Bohemia themselves are a much smaller group of Dev's than say Activision ubisoft and ea so considering their small team they have done extremely well with both arma and dayz and speaking of dayz i think we need more dayz mod servers on arma reforger cause there isn't a lot of dayz mod content and personally i think there is a big community that supports the dayz mod

I used to play Arma 3 a lot (842 hours - not a lot but plenty) but I never heard about Arma Reforger until recently I saw a gameplay video on youtube. I bought it and it's pretty good, a simplified version of Arma 3. I wonder if I was just living under a rock or if maybe they just didn't advertise it enough. I think it's going to blow up even more. It's awesome that console players can play the mods, that's incredible! Modding is why I thought PC gaming was way better than console, but now console players get to enjoy it.

People are reasonably friendly and helpful in Reforger, as long as you've done the tutorial and understand the basics.. That's what annoys me the most with new players, the ones that go straight into the online game without learning literally anything first.. The tutorial is there for a reason I've been playing Arma since 2002.. I'm more than happy to help you new guys, but I can't help you if you don't help yourselves by learning the basics first lol saying that though... You can learn to play Arma in a lot less time than it takes to learn to fly a helicopter that's for sure.

Server ques are nice if there are no connection issues. But waiting in que for 30 mins, just to get connection error at the end, and having this happen 3 times before getting in is really frustrating. "Ppl wanted ques but now they complain" argument comes out as a bit ignorant and cruel.

Controversial opinion - I hate latest patch: 1. Server queues are *ss as somebody mentioned. Waiting 40+ mins for joining is simply unacceptable 2. Servers that allow crossplay that I am playing on - went radio silence after PS5 players joined. Since last patch I met 2 players talking on PS5 (and I play EVERYDAY!). Don’t know why, but this wasn’t an issue with XBOX. Yes, some of them do not use mics (ffs, you are playing milsim - not having a mic is not an option!), but that’s minority of them. Met a lot of good XBOX players that at a beginning didn’t even knew they were console players (that good). 3. Because 1st and 2nd - players, who I know and who I played for at least a year now looking towards other games as, although good, new players made it almost impossible to play Arma as Arma because previous reasons. I think in 2025 you will see a lot of veteran players, who play in crossplay-enabled servers, making a break from Reforger. 4. Tried returning to Combat Ops - it’s impossible to play it - majority players are PS5 players that do not talk and do not cooperate, which results in finishing all missions and simply waiting for them to disconnect as they don’t even bother to exfil and since they are majority - you cannot kick them out. Doesn’t help the fact that BI added this thing, where almost all team has to be present in exfil to actually end the match. 5. For future - not really fan of these changes either. Saw LAV with 25mm cannon and saw rocket pods for Huey - can tell you now - nobody will be flying Mi8 and dealing with US helicopters with RPGs will get worse. USSR really need something on a same par at least as HUMVEE 50cal

They could easily push 80fps on console, no reason we should be locked 40-60 fps max, and then when you aim in with zoomed scope you get like 20-30 and minor input delay, but other than that it’s cool, more people need to make modded servers, not many around other than the main ones

I only play conflict -Arland. There is only 2 negatives things about the game now. People playing to win in conflict too early, just let the enemy have 1 of the main objectives and ignore it. And of course toxic/dumb players. From the intentional team killing to the idiots that want to build an arsenal first and get 200 supply kits.

I don't want to be negative, but the 'comeback' is purely an influx due to PS5 being opened up. The game still feels very janky, and has alot of crashes and network problems. People taking 10 shots to die because the netcode decided to be at a 1 tick per minute is not a good standard, especially when other Milsims like Squad run at much much higher tickrates, even with the non-developer hosting model. The game is improving but they need to do alot of work before people will take it really seriously. It's promising for the future of Arma but they need to work on the fundamental performance of netcode, as it's always been an issue with Arma. The modding community is carrying this game.

Even in the beginning when its release was shakey, there were small moments we experienced that was like “wow, this is really a new Arma”. I think that’s what kept us 400 players to keep playing 😅 Also I cannot wait to be a commander wearing the garb with a pistol on the front line commanding console troops ! 🫡

Yes! Seeing those glimpses kept us coming back for more. I remember having a firefight, then immediately talking to the guy next to me and wondering why more people weren't playing the game. Now they are, and we have our fill of servers!
