To be fair, Graf Zeppelin did have absolutely massive hangers. In terms of total hanger floorspace they where larger than most other carriers of the time. I looked it up and a Yorktown has around 3200m2. Ark Royal was pretty big herself with around 5500m2, but Graf Zeppelin was around 5600m2. For comparison, the also very large Shokaku was around 5500m2 and Essex was around 4250m2. Deck parking made a big difference and skews the numbers in favour of the USN. In reality they had a price to pay for their single open hanger because such a structure was heavier than two closed hangers of larger size. From what I understand, it has to do with breaking up the hull and creating a superstructure on top of it. US carriers did that and that made their hulls weaker, thus they needed more material to compensate. Other navies just one hull structure all the way to the flight deck and that was lighter. The problem with Graf Zeppelin was how the planes where intended to be stored. The Germans intended to line them up in a single row with a lot of space between the planes for arming and maintaining them. Then they literally wanted to lift them up the plane by crane attached to the hanger roof, move them to a lift, put the plane on a launching trolley and catapult them. It was one of many issues that Graf Zeppelin had in its design phase. In theory the Germans could have made quite a useful carrier out of Graf Zeppelin, but only after a major rebuild where they would have to change a lot of the ships internals. They also would need a lot of knowledge gathered about how to carry out carrier operations. And that wasn't going to happen. And even then, the hangers did include a large number of fuel lines that ran over the with of the hanger at the roof. The Germans seem to have picked that up from the IJN and that seems to have been a good part of the massive fired those ships suffered when hit...

@@DanielWW2 I'd argue some of its weapons it carried in sponsens also affected aircraft capacity as well so n my opinion nothing less than a full redesign would have actually increased it, though I'll defer to you on aircraft handling arrangements as I was not aware what the germans hand planned in that regard but I don't think it has as much as an impact for her total capitcity including what else she would have carried. But again I could be wrong on that matter, as you say deck parking really helped US carriers out during the war. As for your other points in general, aside from the storage, I agree her launch method was full of flaws and if she had a major redesign prior to at least most of her hull being built, then yeah. But as you say that would require experience which they had not gained to do it since they hadn't had the time to actually work on testing out carriers like the other powers had. As for the fuel line thing, I'm fairly sure for the Japanese at least it had to do with them not realising how much of a tinder box a carrier hanger could be, Britain knew already due in part one of her seaplane tenders going up during WW1 and put what they learnt from that into theirs to ensure it couldn't happen again and thus played a role in how RN carriers survived taking massive damage to their hangers if their flight deck got penetrated by bombs. I know the US learnt alot from Illustrious survival of heavy bomb damage but my knowledge as to their true extent of their carriers survivability or preventing what happened to IJN carriers happening fall stop is rather small so I can't really say anything else on that.

We look forward to the Russian tier X carrier Smirnoff. Built in 1943 it featured excellent concealment due to it's cloaking device and excellent combat potential due to it's squadron being armed with Soviet developed pulse cannons, photon torpedoes and Fusion Bombs. The player will have to compensate for only being able to accelerate to a maximum of 50 kts.

These interwar and WW2 era Soviet carriers are a complete joke! Heck they didn’t even build or operate an aircraft carrier until the what the late 50’s early 60’s?! The French deserve a lot more attention when it comes to CV’s, since they had actually had a real carrier the bearn, and they were also building the two Joffre class carriers before the they surrendered to Germany. The Soviets literally had nothing but ideas on paper.
