Fun fact: The outcome of the third war was decided by a massive worldvide tournament were ork and imperial victories were tallied up in games of Battlefleet gothic, titanicus and classic 40k. Each country represented its own part of Armageddon, with games played in Australia decidding the outcomes of a region known as "the fire wastes".

The most memorable thing about Armageddon for me is not Emperor, Horus or Vulkan. It's that Angron brought with him FIFTY FUCKING THOUSAND world eaters , almost entire legion, not even counting demons. And still FUCKING LOST to the guard and few companies of wolves. Pathetic excuse for space marines. He had more marines than defence of Cadia or defence of Baal and didn't manage to conquer a single planet.

Considering now we know that Armageddon is a renamed and relocated Ullanor, it does make some sense for the name given. I mean, what better way to scare people off than to give a location a repulsive name like that. Plus, those greedy gits from the AdMech may have deliberately planned it so they can resume plundering any remaining tech without interference.

The point is, that there is no "Mount" Megedon. There is a hill on a plain, and the city of Megiddo is on that hill... and it IS the hill. You see, it is one of the oldest cities, or maybe THE oldest, and all the garbage and materials have piled up for some 8000 years, forming a hill. So during biblical times it was already an ancient artificial hill and people knew there were ancient buildings in their cellars. What Mount Megedon means is " a really long time", when the garbage and levels of buildings have literally formed a mountain under the city. So its not necessarily "where" but "when".

Yeah, for GW numbers, just add an extra one or two zeros on at the end and you’ll be a lot more realistic for the kind of large scale conflicts of 40k. 100,000 Space marines isn’t even half of what the Ultramarines legion had on planet during the Battle of Calth. In other words, Calth was a bigger battle than Ulanor by those numbers. More likely, Ulanor was at least 1,000,000 Space marines, at least 80-800 million Guardsmen/Imperial Army, and 200,000,000 to 2,000,000,000 Orks.

Even if only 1 in a billion citizens will ever become a Astartes, there should still be billions of space marines, given that they basically only ever die in battle. The Imperial Guard should have tens of quadrillions of soldiers in it. There should be hundreds of millions of dreadnoughts and tens of millions of titans. A small scouting fleet should have hundreds of warships. A main battle fleet should have millions. The idea that an epic, planet-wide war would ever involve anything less than 100 billion soldiers and a couple million Astartes is ridiculous.

I often wonder what would happen if the orks, especially Ghazghul, found out about Armageddon being Ullanor. I mean Ghazghul already knows about the war of the Beast and the World Killa’s connection to it, so it isn’t that much a stretch to think he knows about Ullanor and it’s importance. I imagine if Ghazghul found out about Armageddon being Ullanor, his WAAAGH and empire would get much larger, much stronger and much worse.

All the numbers needed were roughly around 80% of all active Space Marines and initiates when thing were going badly coupled with around 3 billion guardsmen (which is a lot less than they have now) plus 1500 knights and Titans. Orc numbers range between 10 to 20 billion orcs. Really puts the Armageddon name to better use then.
