Here’s a tip about working with damascus: don’t buff the steel before you etch. Buffing smears compound and and dust into the grain and pores of the steel, which causes the etch to look like shit. Trust me, I’ve done it. Just bring it up to a nice and clean 600 grit belt on the grinder, degrease, and then go right in. You can even finish with a Scotch-Brite belt before etching. Love the designs man.

thanks for the advice. i got it another go without buffing but no dice. I'm going to try some fresh acid and see what happens

Broski if you in vest into a table top cnc machine it would pay for its self already just seeing what you had to do with those handles. I'm not one to talk because I need it to. I'm getting one soon and just do knives on the weekends. You rock bro keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

I've got one, but its mostly decorative at this point. It does random stuff but its definitely going to be used more in the future. Thanks man

The ferric itself is probably contaminated mate....

There might be some oil floating at the top of your etching solution. The knives look really good btw

Very nice friction folders! Could you tell me the name of the scale screws you use, I’ve hunted the net but can’t find them, I’m obviously using the wrong name, lovely work by the way!

Hey Dom, would you be willing to maybe consider doing a more in depth friction folder build? I’ve been making knifes for a couple years now and I’m working my way into making friction folders and wanting to make my way into eventually some frame and liner locks. My problem is I can’t seem to get the pivot right. I have tried several times and I can’t figure out what the heck I’m doing wrong. Not being able to get past the design stage has put a serious damper on getting in depth with making friction folders, and in all honesty has been incredibly discouraging, not enough to keep me from trying but I have spent days on it here and there in the last 3 to 4 months and it’s killing me lol. As well as the design I’m curious to see what hardware you use and a few in depth design choices that has your knives working well. Like what pivot pins and stopper and standoffs and stuff like that. Are you using nylon washers or no washers? I really admire your work and I think your blades and designs are awesome. I watch your channel frequently and it’s an inspiration. Thank you for sharing. I know you are a busy man and I’d appreciate it if you thought about maybe sharing a video getting more in depth with your friction folders. I completely understand if that is not on your agenda, I just thought I would ask. In any case I think you’re awesome and your work is to. It’s always a pleasure. Stay safe bro and again thank you for all you share.
