Great video - It led me to wear my Seiko LM 7000-5206 today. To the best of my knowledge, it has been going since 1974 without a service and it is running only a minute slow a day. That is quality manufacturing from any perspective.

Keep this series coming. I’ve bought several of the pieces you’ve highlighted. We have very similar taste. I own almost all vintage watches because I think the craftsmanship is outstanding and I can own a piece of history for 10% the price of a new luxury piece. Keep up the great work.

Armand, good picks. I've seen the Omegas with these movements moving up in price and it's getting harder to find great examples any more near the bottom price ($500). I've also seen non-chronometer movements slipped into Constellations. As far as clocks go I think every mechanical watch collector should have at least one mechanical mantle clock at the home/office. I was first introduced to these by my grandfather in law in the form of his Schatz midget (I later inherited) . I picked up a few more standard size 400 day anniversary clocks (Schatz and Kundo) for $15-$30 each most of which were "non-working". With little effort on my part all of these are now running and I will be giving them away to family and friends.

I must say my cal. 562 and 565 Omegas are every bit as good as advertised. Exceptional manufacturing and outstanding accuracy (-3spd and +2 spd) despite being 59 and 52 years old, respectively.

I have a Cyma Triplex 1949 vintage watch, runs perfectly till this day, really cool watch. I have several 32-34mm mainly dress watches , but i always feel that they look tiny on my wrist, although i have a 16cm wrist. What do you think about 32mm watches sports watches like Tudor Submariner 94400?

Great video thanks! A minor detail 12:40 you could set the text so that its not cut between void and picture, further the white letters are not very legible on white ground, white letters with black borders would do. But Im being pedantic.

I have a Lord Matic, yes it is a great watch but it does have some plastic parts including the date wheel pawl, and guess what the part is unavailable so it sits in the drawer for years.

Love this series and great selections to highlight as always. I have been looking at vintage WW2 watches such as the mix from the dirty dozen. there are some cool examples out there on ebay, but i'm holding off a bit.. I need to let my account recover a bit from some recent watch purchases and I want to be sure I find the best version for the price which I do not have to put as much $$ to getting serviced to be of acceptable use and wear with sound peace of mind. Although, for ww2 allies military watches are concerned, I would like to try and find a pilot watch like seen in Dunkirk.. that Omega CK2129.. although Omega is not the only one to make these "Weems" style watches. Either way, it will take some time and careful research and attention to detail to find the best example I would personally want to spend my own hard earned money on some day. Out of the 3 earlier dress watches you mentioned, I do find the Longines Flagship to be the most charming and maybe more underrated between the three. I have definitely seen the interest and posts of the Omega and Seiko examples, but rarely Longines Flagship. As such, I'd probably opt to go the Longines route just to get something less hyped, I would say.

Hello, I was wandering if you could recommend a watch strap for a vintage watch I have. Its a Perry Crusader, circa 1951, it was my Grandfathers long service award from Courtaulds. It was given to him in 1951, the year of my birth and my Father passed it on to me. I will be passing it on to my eldest grandchild, in time. It is a Gold watch and has a black strap( tatty) currently fitted, I have just had serviced, so would like to update the strap. Thank You

You mentioned Rolex movements. I hope you know Rolex insourced movements from as early as 1905 until 2004. Some Zenith movements as we all know, but 90% being Aegler movements from Switserland. Rolex only started making own movements in 2004!

Just a heads-up: For any radium watch, the radium on the dial is still nearly as potent as it is when the watch was made. Radium has a half-life of ~thousands of years and emits radioactive daughter particles such as radon while it decays, so these watches still pose a significant health threat, even today.

One watch doesn’t have enough luminescent paint to really pose any danger to your health. The people in the warehouses full of them would be in danger of radiation poisoning though.

The radium isotope (226Ra) used has a half-life of about 1,600 years, so radium dials remain essentially just as radioactive as when originally painted 50 or 100 years ago, whether or not they remain luminous. Watches with radium dials should not be taken apart without proper training, technique, and facilities. Radium paint can be ingested by inhaling flaking paint particles. The alpha particles emitted by the radium, which is taken up in bone, will kill off surrounding bone tissue, resulting in a condition loosely referred to as radium jaw. Inhaled or ingested particles may deposit a high local dose with a risk of radiation-caused lung or gastrointestinal cancer. Penetrating gamma radiation produced by some dials also represents a significant health risk.

The Dirty Dozen was indeed field watches. You're likely thinking of the B-Uhr "flieger" watch manufacturers A. Lange & Söhne, Wempe, Laco, Stowa, and IWC.
