What muscles do you use to extend your hips up? I always think I'm supposed to squeeze my glutes but that doesn't seem to raise them high enough

When isolating the arm I like yo go under their hand not over as they can easily just swat your hand out of the way if you try to go over. I also like prefer to plant my foot on the ground lift my left hip and pivot to the right while getting their hand to the middle of your chest. I feel like this way works better on someone resisting. I also do not push them away with my hand on their face I like to keep them close as pushing them away with my hand just makes things easier for them. I keep both hands on their arm and because I shift I can move my left leg over their head while moving my right leg up at the same time. Move to baseball bat grip. Squeeze knees together lift up slightly.

Can this move work while getting pounded by an active attacker im only good at doing close guards. From their How can you catch those hands?
