35:10 if you think back to when he said "killing people to serve your own agenda? not for me" and she responded with "are you sure?" because she already knew he created the world (unknowingly) to find his brother, and someone died. He unintentionally killed someone to serve his own agenda. Also, it's probably best to say that he wasn't controlling the road. The road was conjured using his knowledge from his research, but the road itself took it from there and created the trials based on his subconscious. He created what was pretty much a sentient reality. Once the road was created, it was out of his hands. Not to mention, even though Alice and Lilia died, they got a chance to heal and find closure before it happened, whereas if Billy hadn't created the road, Agatha would've just killed them all. Alice got to lift her curse and died protecting someone. Lilia made peace with her abilities, accepted her death, and chose to sacrifice herself for the coven she didn't even want in the beginning. And Jen healed and made it out alive. All three would've died if he hadn't done anything, so death after closure and one life saved was the best path.

That scene in episode 8 when Wanda says “No, Billy… sometimes boys just die.” That broke me. I wept. And regarding Joe’s acting in this show compared to Heartstopper - I get the feeling he’s not only learning from the experienced actors he’s working with here, like Patti LuPone, but given their rich, deep performances he also has more to respond to, as well, which always helps actors dig deeper into themselves to find a matching emotional truth and intensity in order to meet their scene partners on an equal level.

When Rio asks why Agatha lets people believe all that stuff about what happened with Nicky, and she says the truth is too horrible… I think that’s what she means. She’d rather have people think she did something awful than deal with how powerless she felt in the face of that.

Here’s my take on Agatha’s “The truth is too horrible” line. I don’t think it’s the things she did- before or after he died. I think she tells us- sometimes boys die. She couldn’t save him. The idea that she did something awful is easier to live with and have people believe than how powerless that made her feel.

I think it can also just be as simple as "the truth is too awful [for me to talk about/relive]" like the only way to correct people thinking these false terrible things about you is to tell them the truth, but she finds the truth too awful to be open about.

i got the impression that agatha was killing not only to steal power (because why else kill only witches?) but also as a way of keeping death busy so she wouldn't come for her son. then the one day he went off script and there were no bodies for death to collect, she finally came for him

Agatha Harkness is a natural born psychopath. She is still human, but being a villain is her default setting. Killing other witches by absorbing their power is an addictive drug for her.

Billy did not kill anyone and I think people keep missing that. He unconsciously created the road with the rules from the ballad- at that point the road became its own entity and Billy had no control over it. Jac Shaeffer even confirmed the deaths were not his fault but he's a hero and holds himself accountable anyway. Billy is also an empath, so he actually felt their deaths and that of the boy who drowned. He deeply loves and cares for people and I think that is one of the things that makes Billy such an incredible character.

Loved your reaction! I, too, was deeply impressed by this show. Regarding Agatha's propensity to kill people - first of all, she's been humanized, but she's still a villain. It's perfectly valid for her to channel her villainy by simply enjoying killing people as a serial killer. However, I think it all started with the trauma of being rejected by her natal coven. Being raised by witches, she must have learned early that regular people persecuted witches and were dangerous. Then the people who raised her, led by her own mother, called her evil and an abomination and tried to kill her, so she learned that witches were also dangerous. Since her power is drawn from other witches, she's likely to be viewed as a mortal threat by any witch who learns that, and I think she learned very early that the best defense is a good offense. She assumes they'll try to kill her immediately, so she lives with the mindset to trust no one and strike pre-emptively; everyone is out to get her, so everyone is an enemy waiting to be revealed. Rather than being victimized by that circumstance, she adopts the role of predator to take back some agency and control. I think Agatha and Rio spent a lot of time together early in Agatha's history as she was building her body count, and Rio went from impressed to admiring to smitten. Agatha was probably nourished by Rio's companionship, finally meeting someone who would never view Agatha as a genuine threat and simply appreciated her for her talents.

Yeah her first experience with a coven is them trying her and trying to kill her. So from that point, the only good witch is a dead one. And plus you can power, its a win win.

In episode 6, when Billy entered Willian's room for the first time, it was already possible to suspect that he had created the road (there was a lot about the Wizard of Oz) and then when he entered the room with his boyfriend there were even more things, like movie posters. Also Agatha always seemed confused or making jokes about the road and the trials, I always suspected she had never been there!

The line "I cannot heal you...I cannot protect you from what's coming...and I cannot divine was...when she will return." directly ties in with the other witches in the coven and their powers. Jen’s healing water, Alice’s protection circle, Lilia’s prediction, and Billy’s power. Agatha's a covenless witch, but she needed a coven to save Nicky. A witch (like Lilia) could have put a sigil on Nicky because Death is a witch after all, so she wouldn't know Nicky, though Agatha will not remember her son.

32:00 her making the flower/weed grow (via the symbolic use of her tear/sadness to fuel it) represents her potentially learning how to use magic in a constructive, properly positive way vs her usually using her magic for destructive or deceptive purposes. It represents her being able to potentially create life (the thing she's subtextually been in pursuit of both in WandaVision and in the current series), which she wasn't able to do readily before (as she notes to Nicholas in the following episode but again can be deduced in the ep-8 relative to her prior goals). 33:30 -- it's critical to remember that, in this MCU storyline, Agatha is a *villain*. While she is presented with understandable motivations, similar to Thanos' idea of how to balance the universe was for his arc, she's still Evil(tm) -- a cunning liar who periodically uses truth to manipulate people as much as she does outright lies or machinations. Anything she feels or does that is "positive" (her love for her son, or her actually insightful/sound advice as-given to other characters in both this and WV, etc.) is still with the end-run goal of fulfilling her own desires, not actually properly Good(tm). We're not watching a "superhero" series in AAA; we're watching a villain's arc play out as started in WV and continuing into wherever she appears next (likely Vision Quest when that comes out in 2026, but could also include other shows or appearances in "x" MCU movies as one of several subplots occurring in whatever film). 44:09 -- it's implied that Agatha's own power needs to be bolstered/refreshed periodically (perhaps every so many months or few years), which may have something to do with the how the Darkhold influenced her or part of her deal with Death from long before Nicholas was born (as she's already studied it and sought out dark powers, which is why her mother and first coven tried to execute her in 1693). We are to infer that her own natural talents weren't that great -- hence, her needing years of practice just to martial up low-to-middling illusions, mind control, etc. -- and by drawing out raw magical energy from other witches she has bolstered her own abilities.

Also, Billy's Road killed the Salem Seven. I would argue, however, that was a good thing. Agatha intended to kill the coven in her basement when they blasted her and she got to suck them dry of powers, but Sharon Davis (Mrs Hart) and Jen weren't capable of blasting her, so they might have survived Agatha's ploy. The Salem Seven were intent on doing Billy harm when they broke into the house, and as single-minded as they were with their vengeance, they would have killed everyone in Agatha's proximity as they tried to get her. If Billy hadn't conjured the road as an escape route, he, Agatha, and the rest of the coven would have ended up dead immediately. Instead, he, Agatha, and Jen got to live, and Lillia died with meaning by taking out the Salem Seven, ensuring they'd never be a threat to anyone else, either. Billy initially saved everyone, and since the Road wasn't under his conscious control, his responsibility for the subsequent dangers was debatable.

It just hit me. Lilia wasn't able to tell Alice not to save Agatha, because death comes for us all. And it was Alice's time to go on the timeline, which is why she was never able to finish warning her, without slipping time. I have so many unanswered questions though. I love the representation we got with both a gay and lesbian kiss (and good god was that an amazing kiss that was, between Agatha and Death)... but like... How DID agatha get the darkhold? How did she meet Death in the first place? Why was Nicholas supposed to die? We can presume that she traded the life of her firstborn for the darkhold... but I don't like going off of presumptions... So none of the questions I had in the first place got answered. Also I can't get rid of the feeling, that Death is gonna be a 1-and-done feature in the MCU... and I don't like that either

When Agatha says it was bind or burn, she meant herself. Bind Jen, or we’re coming for you. Of course they didn’t say who they wanted bound, so she didn’t know it was Jen specifically, but yeah she was doing spells for money and if she didn’t do as they asked, it would be her who they came after.

What they seem to have done is adapt the comics for TV. Agatha was a Ghost that Walked the Road with Wanda. Its not really been explained in this series but apparently he will be in the upcoming Vision series. they wanted a trilogy, So finding Tommy must be in the arc. In the comics Tommy is already in custody high security, He started getting into trouble using his powers, He's not bad just no family there like William/Billy had. Billy actually mentioned his background as the boy was drowning. Going back to what they didn't really cover Both Agatha and Wiccan are both so powerful, We saw like 5% of what they can actually do. He can create a stable reality so while the door is now a memorial stone the road is real. He can travel the Multiverse is up there with Dr Strange, Strange actually says he will be more powerful and more than likely be sorcerer supreme one day. "Lets go and find Tommy" = Agatha gets herself a new body, Can you imagine the extra costs of making her a Ghost in every episode? The character is so messed up in the comics that cow will take someone on the verge of being buried and bang on the coffin to let her out. I loved episode 8 but episode 9 felt a bit flat, I get they finally wanted to reveal what happened to her son. I did enjoy this series a lot was great hearing the news it broke various records for views in 24hrs etc. The Grift was actually revealed in episode one where she pissed them off and waiting to be zapped with Magic then the door appeared. Its going to be very interesting to see how they bring Wanda back because right now it seems her story will be a romantic relationship with Dr Doom, She wants him to repair all the death and Damage she caused and this brings in Tommy and Billy to try and sort out WTF is going on with her.

Such a good show. I think there was no post-credit scene because... a) the entire episode 9 was technically a post-credit scene b) episode 8 was the end of the PLOT, episode 9 was the end of the STORY The hallucinations in episode 3 were, I think, what the witches FEARED the most. As for the lack of "Wiccan will return..." in the last credits - I suspect the Marvel/Disney execs are still panicking about what to do with a show they'd probably forgotten about (or just didn't care about) that has suddenly become a massively popular hit with audiences of all tribes (from LGBTQ+ witchy types to ComicBro Macho Straights) demanding a sequel. I suspect there's going to be a lot of rescheduling, and writing extra scenes for Wiccan/Agatha to appear in!

As to whether Agatha planned to sacrifice herself for Billy or she made her decision after he said the thing about Nicky, I think we aren’t supposed to know quite what was happening there. On the one hand, Billy offering to give himself up is what Rio needed him to do, so then Agatha playing the villain and making him second guess himself was starting the process of saving his life. But it still really seems like she’s going to abandon him. And then for him to say the thing about Nicky and essentially manipulate her into sacrificing herself for him is also crazy! he’s really not that nice like he said. In that sense, he really did get all of them - Sharon, Alice, Lilia AND Agatha - killed. Such interesting character stuff to mull over here. Great reaction!

So the impression that I got was that Agatha's syphon power was part of a deal with death. Agatha gets to get more earthly power and longevity, Death gets more bodies, specifically witches bodies, because witches are notoriously hard to kill and they tend to cheat death whenever they can. Case in point, I don't think Rio got Lillias soul because I believe she is in an Oroboros loop like He Who Remains, Whe she died she went back to her first magic lesson and started the process again. What you didn't seem to catch was that before Agatha fed on witches, Nicky was always sickly and gray, afterwards he was pink and healthy(ish). This may have been part of the cost for him sticking around and when he bailed on the Tavern witches he broke the deal and it was time to go.

It’s ridiculous that Charlie’s in the hospital in Season 3 but the show focuses on Nick crying. After 2 seasons of just Nick stories. You can tell who’s the favourite there. Good that Marvel gives Joe a chance to do something more

The prevailing theory that Nicky died because Agatha didn't kill witches that day is flawed. In order to do so, she'd have to locate and kill over 10,000 witches in six years (assuming 5 or so witches in a coven). I will concede, a by product of witch murder would be bodies for Rio. I also feel there is merit to the discussion of Agatha's response to the trauma of being cast out and sentenced to death by her family, as well as the loss of her son. However, here's why I believe what Agatha did was worse than the rumors, and why she can't face Nicky. I think, the night Agatha kills her first coven, she had come from meeting Rio. She's called an abomination and accused of engaging in unapproved activities. The act of killing witches gives her power and keeps her young, hence being able to give birth to a 4 month old baby at about 80 years of age. She has this child that Death was going to take. Rio gives them the gift of time, and Agatha wastes it. That is the horrible thing she does. Instead of cherishing, nurturing, and protecting her child, she uses him as a lure to steal more power. She chooses to expose her son to deceit, manipulation, and homicide. Rather than, at the very least, temporarily setting aside her thirst for power, along with the effort to extend her life, to embrace whatever time she'd have had with her son, she squanders that time in pursuit of her own selfish desires. And, I don't want to hear this is a patriarchal view of women, and women don't have to abandon their hopes or dreams in order to be a good mother. I merely proposed a temporary shift in priorities. That's why letting others believe you traded your son to Mephisto for the Darkhold is better than revealing the truth.
