Because no matter what We, The People do, the US Supreme Court and other Circuits of Appeals Courts keeps striking down, ruling against, or dismissing cases completely from people and institutions fighting against 2A restrictions. It's no different than how Roe v Wade passed in 1973 because the Supreme Court neglected their duties to apply the law, instead of change the law. Actually, the wording does not exclude criminals either. And that wouldn't be an issue if more people would carry. In fact, I feel that basic firearm safety should be a mandatory schoolsubject, with targetshooting in High School becoming a mandatory course for at least 1 year so every one from a young age on has at least a basic understanding of how to safely handle a gun and at least has a basic understanding on how to fire it responsibly.
@PHC177613 күн бұрын
@rjvanloon4769 completely agree, I guess I was stating the obvious that criminals are not suppose to have weapons in their possession. But, also stating obvious is criminals don't follow laws... I suppose there should be a definition included of "violent crime", so things don't get blown out of proportion with blanket statement of "crime" because we all know there are laws on books that are completely ridiculous that don't make a person a "violent criminal"
@rjvanloon476913 күн бұрын
@PHC1776 Im of two minds on this. The 2A does not make any exceptions. If a criminal has served his time his rights should be restored. Of course, back then one didnt get as many chances. Repeat offenders and offenders of serious crimes faced a piece of rope. Btw, the 2A says 'arms'. That has been twisted to be about firearms, but it basically means one should be allowed to carry a sabre, or for all I care a battle-axe just the same as carry a gun.

Non-local Karens that moved to the area made a fuss that a shooting was going to happen and the cops were called. That guy's rights were violated all up and down, and he lost his job. He was carrying his rifle because he was waiting for a friend to get off work from the local farm+feed store, and wanted to show him his weapon. The farm+feed store carried weapons, and the friend worked behind the actual weapon counter at that same store. Locals knew who the guy was, and he was CLEARLY just leisurely grocery shopping, looking around. And yet his rights were violated by the local law enforcement.

There is no difference between open carry and conceal carry. So there should be no laws against either. The only reason we conceal carry is to be repectful to others so that are not freaking out. Or to ahve some level of security so that someone doesn't try to pull it on you. Criminals are going to do whatever they want.

@KingAdrock42014 күн бұрын
Here's my question: *does it actually say your permit has to be from your state of residence?* The text of the bill says it applies to someone: “who is carrying a valid license or permit which is issued pursuant to the law of _A State_ and which permits the person to carry a concealed firearm” and THEN says “or is entitled to carry a concealed firearm in the State in which the person resides". Am I missing something, or does the _in the State in which the person resides_ part appear to ONLY apply to constitutional carry states? The first part says to me that if you have a valid permit from ANY state, it is therefore valid in ALL states. Hence someone from CA or NY who have a permit from UT or AZ can carry anywhere, even in their home state; while folks from permitless states can carry permitless everywhere.

The bill now has 151 cosponsors - 150 Republicans, 1 Democrat. One person missing is house speaker Johnson, so I'm not sure if I trust he will bring it for a vote. I say let it play out in the courts while we have control of the supreme court, that way it can't be undone.
@nolimitssjca14 күн бұрын
It would still require 60 votes in the Senate. It's like to end up in the one big Reconciliation Bill that 60 Democrat Senators would have to accept it (and some other things) in order to get what they want.

@curly__314 күн бұрын
States like Colorado which used to be shall issue and still purport to do so are now a may issue state in reality. It would cost me over $500 and 2 days of my time to do it today and the sheriff's website says they do not have to issue in any time frame and that it can take over a year to get your permit. The raimondo case explicitly states that the federal laws and rights are solely the jurisdiction of the federal courts. The states do not have the legal right to interpret and make laws or permit/license rights to US citizens residing in their state boundaries. As long as state permits are allowed by the federal government we will never have our rights. Reciprocity is backdoor gun control from weasel rinos.

States and local governments explicitly do not have the right or jurisdiction to enforce anything having to do with weapons or the use or carry of weapons. That all falls under federal jurisdiction because that is a federally enumerated right and federal law. Allowing state and local governments to change and modify our rights and forcing citizens to assert their rights in court costing 10's or 100's of thousands of dollars, jail time or even costing their lives to do so is not legal. It is criminal. In order for the Constitution to be law and for the bill of rights to be law, they must be congruent on every square inch of US owned territory. PERIOD.
@KrügWayzz14 күн бұрын
It is not criminal. It has been up to interpretation and has been through the Federal Supreme Court multiple times and turned over to the states. In 2022 again, was determined up to the states to decide. What is your reference to support your stance. It's all up to interpretation.
@curly__314 күн бұрын
@KrügWayzz you have no reference. That is all a complete lie. Tell that to NY. They disregard our constitution and Scotus rulings by making laws that negate our rights as American citizens and under the constitution. The rules should be the same for all states. I shouldn't have to go thru background checks by the NY state police every time I buy a box of rounds or a new gun. Even rifles and shotguns are checked and I live in long island. Not in NY city. I have HR218 training every year, am qualified to carry extended magazines but NY has stopped all businesses in and outside NY from selling me legal products I am allowed to possess. If a national law is passed I shouldn't have to abide by NY unlawful regulations. The rules should be the same in all states for all citizens.
