*Mr. Hirmer, Thank you for sharing this video of the Snake Bow. I am glad to see that this bow and fast flight strings are now available in USA. Sometimes this Rolan Snake bow is sold under the branded name of PSE...from several vendors.*

Hallo Armin!

Hi Armin,when you are reviewing bows and test arrow speed you often mention using your normal range arrows - 320 grain weight. Is this arrow weight the weight of the whole arrow; including the shaft, point&insert, nock and feathers? Or just the bare carbon arrow shaft on its own?Just wondered because 320 grain all up weight seems a very light arrow? - compared to my arrows!Thanks !! :)
@ArminHirmer
@ArminHirmer 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily. it is the whole arrow, yes it is very light. But it is meant for your practice bows which only have 22#
@notapplicable531
@notapplicable531 5 жыл бұрын
Emily, Just a little information about the arrows we use to practice traditional Korean archery. 320 grains of weight is not unreasonable. The bamboo arrows I use with my hornbows are 300 grains, my wife's less. The first carbon arrows I used many years ago and don't shoot anymore were 370. My current arrows are 366. My wife's carbon arrows are 312. Point weights for all of these are around 60 grains. FOC for my original arrows is a low 8 %. As all our archery activity is shooting at a target with a one centimetre thick rubber face that is 145 metres away, and penetration is not desired, a high FOC for momentum and penetration is not required. The carbon bows we are currently using are about 40 lbs. at full draw and handle the light arrows quite well. When I shoot a hornbow, the one I use is about 45 lbs. I hope this may be of interest to you and dispel any concerns about light arrows. Best and many hits. PS. The Korean archery we practice only counts hits to target, not a value dependent on how close you are to the centre of the target, so - many hits!

Carbon shards in the hand is no fun :( That just happened to me a week ago when I wasn't paying attention and didn't notice a sliver poking out by my tip after I shot the steel frame of my Shield... had a 2 cm shard that I pulled out of my thumb and there's still a small piece I'm going to have to cut out. Definitely not my favorite thing ever. Glad your hand is doing ok! Have you ever considered making a multi-material bow in the style of the snake (ambidextrous) that used what amounts to an aluminum or hardened steel riser core with wood or leather overlay and laminated limbs & tips in the shape and style of the Asiatic recurves? That would make for a very interesting ambidextrous shooting experience, I think, and one that could handle quite a large draw weight if made from the right materials.

might be easier to simply lower your grip and ignore the shelf by placing arrow below shelf.
@johnfredrickson7215
@johnfredrickson7215 4 жыл бұрын
@@douglassourbeer5636 I've discovered there are 2 versions of this bow running around. The version Armin is using has a grip that still allows arrow contact with your thumb. The version I bought has a molded shelf that blocks contact with your thumb. Since I had 2 of these bows, I ended up grinding the shelf down on one and leaving the other as is. I've since moved on to other bows, but still like to use these occasionally for form practice, or testing new thumb rings.

Seems like that rubber finger protector would lower the speed considerably. Kind of defeats the point with a fast flight string.

Dont go too heavy ,start with 40-50 first
@johnbarron4265
@johnbarron4265 3 жыл бұрын
40-50 lbs would be WAY too big of a jump, especially with thumb release. Your thumb has to get used to holding the extra weight. You will progress a lot quicker and more smoothly in smaller draw weight jumps. Also keep in mind that short Turkish bows tend to be around 43 inches in length from nock to nock and thus tend to stack a lot more after 28" of draw compared to the longer Snake Recurve from Arc Rolan. So if you're used to drawing, say 29", the Turkish bow might draw an extra 4 lbs than its rating, while the Arc Rolan might have only drawn 2 lbs more than its rating. I wouldn't go any heavier than 35 lbs if I were you, and even that's really stretching it.

That protector is bad for short and strong bows. For 40lb 160cm it's ok, but for 60lb 160cm it crushing my index finger. I had to remove that upper part because it crushed my index finger. So I have that grip only for 2 downer fingers. ;-) On that 60lb I still have to use glove, it's to strong for me. ;-) I making that protectors from common wire isolation from electro shop, I don't know how it's called in English, you know what I mean, you just warm it and it's smaller after it.

Hallo Armin, officialy the Rolan Snake is not compatible with Fast Flight strings. I asked today the producer, here the answer:Thanks for your interest on our brand and products, Currently, we do not recommend you to use fastflight string with a snake. The tests carried out on the Snakes are carried out with the string provided, the fastflights are more nervous and the snake could badly support the vibrations.
