I used a heat gun to change the curve of the bow and got it to 35lb at 32” in draw.

That sounds risky, did you do any research into the material? I mean, Rolan really advises a 30" max draw. But more power to you if you're aware of the risks hehe. Ngl it sounds interesting tho hehe. Does it also shoot faster through the crony? (I mean high poundage with reduced efficiency means you just gotta put more effort into getting the same result 😅)

@Nathaniel Miller if your getting fumes then it's way too hot, all you need is to get it very warm till it bends easily

That can work, by pulling the limbs forward while warm, but you risk breaking the bow once it has cooled and you draw it full. It will shorten the life of the bow before it becomes too weak to use well.

This is the very first bow I've ever bought. I remember going to the archery shop and the shopkeepers were trying to sell me a fancier recurve. They struggled finding a bow for my arms (I'm 6'3), eventually I got fed up, grabbed this puppy off the rack and it was perfect for me. Best part too, it was 40 dollars cheaper than what they wanted me to buy. Very good bow, easily my favorite in the collection

i think the best beginner bow is anything lightweight with a long draw length, with a dual shelf, and affordable. some of those 40$ crab bows or plastic turkish bows are almost there but without shelves so the snake might just be it

This bow is sold as a PSE Snake here in the US. It's available from a large sporting goods retailer called Academy for $65, and my local Academy has them in stock. Think I'll go pick one up today. Been having a lot of trouble learning thumb shooting with my 35# Tatar bow, so maybe the 25# Snake will help. The narrow arrow pass and ambidextrous design looks very useful for various styles. And being all synthetic it should be durable and humidity/weather proof.

I purchased three of these at the onset of covid lockdowns in 2020 for my kids, wife and myself (15#, 18# and 26#) to start learning archery. They have been a Godsend. We practise asiatic style, starting with Slavic release and then moving on to thumb release and khatra. I customised the 26# for myself to practise form and motion: I attached some wood to fill in the shelf so I can shoot off the hand. Would be good if they came with an attachment for this purpose instead of arrow rests and stickers - though my younger kids liked the sticker.

The diagonal handle repeats the logic of the Japanese bow, which is held low, so the wrist position is the same, and it's an anatomical advantage.

only minor issue you have to look for: sometimes there are still little edges on the string loops left from manufacturing that can damage your string in the long run, you might wanna fix those with sandpaper

So, I grew up with a cheap wood bow hunting rabbits but haven't drawn since. I am more than proficient with shotguns and even slingshots. My wife had a taste of archery in HS and loved it. Question is how to start in archery, no shelf, thumb braced on right side middle eastern style. Armin, thank you for recommending this bow! I got one 6 months ago, and have followed your lessons on the many ways to draw and release arrows. Am looking forward to the video lessons that you are working on featuring the "Snake bow". I added an Ali-bow tartar 35# "horse-bow" to my arsenal. The practice on the Snake bow with thumb release made the transition to the tartar bow very easy. I agree with you, that it would be nice if they would make the Snake bow in 35-40#. Thank you for the video library you have built on traditional archery as I have not been able to find anyone in my area who knows much about it. Please show some of your groups at 10, 20 and 30 meters, so I will have some way of knowing what to expect when my technique is consistent.

First off let me say "Weird", I knew you made a review of this bow 3 years ago, but when I typed in "Armin Hirmer snake bow" in the search bar that video came up and this one was just under it; I said "weird this is from last month and I never saw it". Any who; I had some spare money this month and finally got around ordering from amazon a brass thumb ring, a dozen descent (non-walmart) arrows, and a snake bow ($64.99 US). There's some slight differences between my bow and your bow, that is until you get to the center. The arrow rests on my bow has "shelfs" with um an upward curve on the outer edge of the shelfs to presumably help keep the arrow on the arrow rests. And there is a sight "scale" with eleven lines (alternating from "long" to short") on the "belly" of the arrow pass. On the back of the upper limb it says "PSE SNAKE". If it doesn't rain Saturday I'll do a video of it and you can see what I'm talking about 🙂

I bought the PSE version at a local store about a week ago to learn thumb draw. Fun bow but that hand shock can be intense depending on how I hold it. I'm going to try gluing some lead weight in the hollow of the handle and maybe wrap it in something. Unfortunately I've already lost it's value in arrows, 2 in the snow, one ricochet on the 3d range which I couldn't find, and one hit a rock and broke.

Okay, this makes me wonder: If you recommend a onepiece bow like this to beginners, do you have any advice for people who live in the city without a car that would help them to get their bow through the city on a bicycle? The outskirts of the city where you can find places to shoot, and even most archery ranges, are a pain for me to reach by public transportation, and it would be much easier if I could just get there by bike, so it seems like takedown is the only option for me, unless you can recommend a non-obstructive mode of transportation for onepieces by bicycle? My PSE has a few minor differences. The limbs are flat black, not shiny. The date code is inside the hollow part of the handle and there's no marking for where it's made. The part Armin mentions breaking has a small step up in thickness. It has aiming marks on the riser which I painted. It only came with one arrow rest which like Armin I didn't use, and when I bought it at the store they were sitting on the rack pre-strung, they probably came pre-strung from the factory given the packaging. Other than that it looks the same.

I spent a bunch of time trying to find where to get them with 26#. I ended up ordering one from SAS on Amazon and it was an Arc Rolan one that came. I had also emailed Arc Rolan to ask them about which(SAS or PSE) was genuine copy. They said PSE was a knockoff and SAS places orders through them.

Buck Trail Metis can be bought for 80euro (Around 280PLN (75$) in Poland - ). Better choice. We use 24 (12X 22 and 12X 26) Snakes (price around 170PLN (45$) in Poland) for beginners, but only because we have them from our Archery Tag. I find it almost indestructible, but it is the only advantage over the Metis. Every single other aspect is worse in the Snake.

I have a question I brought one of these recently mainly because I’m left handed and it was the only one that I could find that had a left riser. But I’m still trying to figure out what side to shoot with. At first I was doing my left hand to the right riser but I don’t know if that’s right can someone help me. If you are left handed, means you have the bow in the right hand and if you draw 3 fingers you will have the arrow in the right side. If you shoot thumb release you have the arrow in the left

I actually cut the thumb off a pair of deerskin work gloves and use that sometime. It's fairly tight but does work loose... the wrist strap would help...

No they won’t, but there is a company on I think Taiwan which is copying this bow and with 35#

@@dusantomic7787 the company said they will send one, but maybe they are afraid of copyright problems here in Europe. The bow is available in Australia
