The pace choke is done from bottom half. Assuming you can’t throw in the other leg for the triangle. Also the pace choke is done with two hands with a gable grip. So it technically is the pace choke. Different grips, different position, different circumstances, different compression, different direction of the choke, it’s very very similar but it’s different in certain ways. You can get away with hitting the pace choke without needing to have a full guard or a rubber guard

I am soooo happy you put this vid up. One of my 4 stripe white belt students came in the academy on Monday and was FREAKING out about this choke and could NOT wait to show and tell everyone. So, after I slapped him, I simply explained it's nothing more than an armless triangle, not a "pace choke". Thank you psykojojo, for you have restored balance to the Jiu-jitsu world.

i agree with your thoughts about the nam phan bout. good thing rogan said that its not the ufc that decides the fights, and that the ufc has nothing to do with the judges whatsoever

Ehh, what are you going to do? It was really Joe Rogan who declared during the match that it was a new submission so maybe he just didn't know this one. The starting position is a bit different, but not really enough to be a different submission.

Why would you ever go for this instead of the triangle...

he did not do this choke in training, psykojojo is right. but that's what impresses me the most. Is that he was able to pull off a technique from nowhere without any prior training or knowledge of the choke before. goes to show he's got some good mat intelligence and can use it under pressure.

its a modified armless triangle. his opponent knew that he wanted to free up his left leg for the armless triangle and that gave him the opportunity to lock in his own choke. you obviously know your stuff but give credit where credit is due, he got a submission using an unconventional move so he deserves it.

@dannielpreto He's not the primary source either, now if it hits the same exact choke again (with the leg trapped) then I'll agree, you can call it a pace choke, until then, he simply used an armless triangle ONCE. And besides the D'arce was named when grappling and mma was young in america, most people (even fans of the sports) didn't know what a brabo was, they could get away with renaming it. Now, the following is huge and we understand what an armless triangle is. I do see your point tho

@theguybelowmefarted no im an educated jiu jitsu player. my coach HATES eddie bravos system but as with most jiu jitsu athletes, by the time you are blue or purple ( i am ) , you realize you can learn absorb and use technique on your own without being taught if learned from a proper source. i mostly only use lockdown and whip up when my half guard is shut down via my shoulders being flattened and my hips killed. its much more effective then traditional shrimping i find.

@chodan94 hi i dont mean to be rude or anything but its not an armless triangle, i train with nick pace at tiger schulmanns headquarters and while it is something like an armless triangle its more complex and can really only be done if the timing and positioning is right
@mrzacklowe
@mrzacklowe 14 жыл бұрын
@psykojojo well he's done the triangle many times, but during the fight he tried to get the triangle but came out with the "Pace choke" when he saw that the triangle wsnt gonna cut it, he then came in the next day doing it and yeah, and i agree it is deffinatly much like a triangle but you said yourself that its modified so it wasn't considered an armless triangle

@mrzacklowe so he actually does that in training? I ask because in the interview I saw right after his fight, he pretty much said he made it up on the fly, saw it and locked it. Like I said, it definatly was a cool submission but as far as I can see it's just a modified armless triangle, he simply had his leg trapped
@psykojojo

actually your wrong its not an armless triangle, i train with nick pace at tiger schulmanns head quarters and its not as easy as your making it out to be, he used the vise grip and digs hes elbow into the lower apple, i know it really does look like it but its a much more complex move

@psykojojo No because you are not the primary source of the sub. If we have a Brabo Choke, D'arce, Ezekiel, and Kimura we can give the guy a Pace Choke. He was the most well known propagator of this choke thus by the precedent within the BJJ community is entitled to this choke. Nothing is new under the sun, but BJJ has this habit of paying tribute to guys that spread a choke. He put it out there for the world (Grappling World) to see it...

@OffspringFTW65 yeah ive been a blue belt for 2 years in february. that means i should be getting real close skill wise to a purple, which means i should be able to beat a purple by points, and the average one two or three stripe blue belt shouldnt be able to sub me , but beat me on points. Oh and by the way since winning Up to NAGA intermediate, and beating all my opponents by 5 points or more and taking every opponents back was my last accomplishment i dont think you could,

@OffspringFTW65 well they dont give out belts in wrestling but if they did id be a purple belt there and as far as jiu jitsu, i started at an american jiu jitsu school, earning my blue belt there, then went to ATT and was forced to start back at white and earned the bjj blue belt too. if it had been at either place all at once id be purple and roll consistently with quality purples and do just fine. it takes a brown/black belt to sub me so if youre not a brown then you=not better.

@evilburrito95 armbar is still an armbar no matter what position it is taken from.. as for the the triangle, kimura ect. renaming a sub based on where u take it from is just making shit way to complicated and confusing as everyone is using different lingo.. thats the one annoying thing about the new shit out. people are like oh look i made of this move.. no u didnt its the same move just from a slightly different position. ridiculous,.

wow i love when blue belts pretend to be masters or something. its not called 'pulling rubber guard" its called transitioning to mission control. then getting the hand to the mat. the invisible collar, then omoplata, then top position to twister side control. if youre going to make a video on youtube and scoff at newbs, please dont be one. are you gonna tell mick swick he cant have the swickitine? and why does aoki get the go go when brad imes got two pro finishes with it? newb....
