Update 0.12 introduced a host of new maps and new features. Some work well, some not so much. Today we're looking at two of the new maps and seeing what works, what doesn't, and why artillery isn't such a burden to your team in a co-op battle anymore.

Guys! I have made my calculations and there is a way to ensure Jingles uploads his videos throughout December! We must...stop Christmas. Stop it from ever existing. Thus Jingles will not take a so called 'Christmas break'. Genius!

Jingles you NEED to move with your SPG between shots. You're making it way too easy for the enemy artillery if you stay still, just like cats in the middle of the road! P.S.1 : You can move even when you're in "artillery view", that way you don't lose your target and you just need to remember how much forward-backwards you need to move! P.S.2 : Move whenever you hear the "enemy arty firing" sound (it does not have to be a hundred meters, but move enough to avoid a direct hit). You got little way to know if they're shooting at you or the allied vehicles but it's better to be safe than sorry if you ask me!

he knows this of course, but he has a three shot autoloader, and is trying to take them out before they can fire back. That last game, he need to keep firing to make sure they didn't get capped out.

+Top 4ce (Heiko Brunken) Even with an autoloading arty you need to move after every single shot when there are still enemy arty alive. You don't have to move a huge amount, the amount of damage from a splash hit is tiny vs a direct hit but you do still need to move.

+ARCAGNELL0 Where's he going to move exactly? His entire argument about Hydra is the fact there IS no place to move TO, thanks to the fact everything on the enemy team spawns down in the valley.... with a direct line of sight...............

+CGAPOMPEY he can just "kemp bush" to his left to prevent direct line of sight from the tanks billow and moving just back and and forth from that position while in the artillery view to stop getting hit by the enemy artillery . stopping to empty your 3 shot clip in an artillery is a death-sentence not playing those maps

what is still not addressed however is how arty only gets 50% credits for their matches and how arty is the only vehicle class unable to earn tier 9 tokens -.-

+charlie otero Whats OP are premium MBT-70s and VFMs that you will get in 9 out of 10 battles as soon as you hit tier 5. I don't care that they made them OP but putting them in tier 4 and 5 battles is the same crap as in WOT. Premium noobs who can just drive up to you and shoot you because they know nothing can pen them from the front. So the whole team decides to just camp and snipe in hope of the sideshot ... If there was no PVE content i would all ready gave up on AW...

Hi, Jingles! First of, love your videos mate! Secondly: On Operation Hydra you can hide behind the rocks on the left, just shoot your three shot salvo and duck into cover, then you remember the different artillery spots (they rarely move, when they don't get spotted/fired upon) next pop out at another spot and shell their positions. It's the same tactics you have to use in PVP, where arty is the biggest bunch of campers in the world.

+Jain Zar I've never played this map as arty before but it was the first thing i noticed is he could have gone left and been arty safe while raining death on the tanks while concealed. He's such a massive noob at times.

+Jain Zar I noticed that when I played arty. PvP counter-battery is so easy because they all think they're playing WoT and are too stupid to realise that I get the same counter-battery notifications they do, so they sit there shooting at me and I can just dodge all their shots, aim, kill them and then camp the rest of the game. Specialised tutorials for each vehicle type would probably help, and who knows, maybe that will actually happen, unlike in WoT.

***** What artillery tier do you play? I can assure you, that at Tier 6 and 8 most of the enemy artillery knows what it's doing, raining Illumination shells on you constantly, enabling normal enemy tanks to shoot at you. Plus the changes to the concealment mechanics ruin your concealment value greatly if you fire all three shots in a row without moving.

+Jain Zar Yup, the missions I've played as arty were pretty straightforward. Preferably find a position with cover from the normal enemy tanks, then counter-battery the hell out of them - all the arty I've fought have been terrible at relocating, so you can melt them pretty quickly. I can see why it might be weird if you don't pvp as arty, and you certainly need a more useful team, but I'm really liking how it works.

RedWurm With T6 and T8 you also get a magazine, which let's you relocate closer to the front lines between reloading, that is especially useful for Wölfi T6, since that artillery doesn't get HERAP.

Jingles you are doing a great job with these videos. I highly enjoy all the times you talk about history in your videos, I have yet to hear you ramble about history to me all the information is good and interesting. You good sir are the reason I ever played WOT and now I am considering playing armored warfare. May your games be good and the Luchs always die to your gun :D

+FlopFlop no, it'll actually be a tier 3 tank which can penetrate an SU-76I from the front with standard ammo. crazy, rite? well, according to WG that's what we're getting. +Polver no, that's something gaijin will do. WG aren't so blind as to think that every single thing that they make is a piece of art that's worth millions of euros and that it's supposed to be a museum display. in fact, have you even watched yesterday's mingles with Jingles and then seen the video that WG uploaded (Which Jingles featured)? they know that free tanks are mostly shit.

Wargaming NA uploaded that and can't fault them as along with the RU server they are really good as is the specials and deals. Its just the EU branch that has issues ;)

Jingles just a few tips from the Starry Night PVE mission; Line your tank up on the road as close to the rocks as possible from the start in such a way that you can go forward and reverse without getting caught up on terrain. Fire your initial round and locate arty on the map. Stay zoomed in and back up into cover. Reload then pull forward only far enough for your recticle to go blue and open fire. As soon as your rounds are out reverse back into cover for the reloads. You can hit all 3 zones from that location so do not push down into the valley. I've done several 15000+ damage games on that map with my PZH2000 using these tactics with nary a scratch. Other than that thanks and keep the videos coming. -Leady07

in starry night mission you would want a scout at the bushes in B5 to get vision on last base, spotting arty on 0 line & AI coming from A3

Generally, I get to the B3-C3 area on Starry Night if I am an AFV, Light, or TD early on, so I can provide spotting to both the second and third base. I am only up to tier III, but I think those positions will work well even on Hard mode

Noticed something pretty nice as well, apparently MBTs get a good bonus base xp for spotting targets. In my stock m1 I rarely get top damage scores but I have been managing top base xp by being up front spotting, not actively scouting of course, but still pushing foreword and lighting up targets only stoping to deal with them. And the m1 has the armor for it, and the speed to get out of trouble if need be. Nothing it can do against arty though. Lol

On starry night, I always plays something light with good spotting range and a bit of penetration to reset the cap. The swingfire is often the one I use as I am grinding for the next tank. Now, as it is utterly useless in the city due to atgms only, I got to the hill@h2 and grab secondaries on the way. It gives an awesome spotting/sniping position towards all the spawns for the second objective, and as soon as third objective comes up I move to avoid getting pawned. To J0. Thats right. It is an awesome spotting position if you can get there in time. First wave of 3+ tanks spawns just behind H2 seconds after the 3rd objective is triggered, and you have to run straight through them but there is a small hill back there. The AI will NEVER go behind it, and its essentially the perfect safehouse with some bushes and spotting/firing range all the way to the cap circle. Awesome for spotting damage and netting 4k in T4.

I also noticed that enemy PVE arty sometimes (at least one arty on one map) spawn outside the map border, making it impossible to counter-arty it.

in my experiance Tier3-4 Hydra is a quick map that you charge into the enemy using MBT's or shoot and scoot with everything else.

In tier 4 arty, which is all I currently have, the first tier is survivable as long as you're far enough back to not be spotted by the non-arty tanks. It's the end of game rush when they sometimes spawn other arty right up on the ridge with you that I have the most problems. But yes, needs more playtime and balancing from Obsidian.

You have my undying thanks for that vid. AW are doing their best to make a valid role for arty, and the hatred is hard to overcome, I think they are doing well, and people showing what an important role arty can play was/is needed. Ty Jingles.

As others have pointed out Jingles, to survive that first wave in Hydra, you HAVE to hug those Rocks to your left. And MOVE even a few dozen feet will save your skin.

The Type 59 is amazing. Probably then best gift vehicle I've gotten in any game. It can bounce shots some higher tier MBTs can't even dream of.

Jingles any advice for the Colorado class battleship? I'm from West Virginia and the USS West Virginia story is great she had 16" gun when the Bismarck and Hood had 15". I feel the main issue is that you don't get the 1943 type D refit. Please a History episode for the USS West Virginia wouldn't be a waste of your time. Merry Christmas to you!

It's because the arty will fire at the first thing it can shoot at during the game. It'll then focus fire on that ONE target the ENTIRE game until it's dead before moving on to the next one. It won't even switch targets if it loses sight of you, or is obstructed. One solution is to simply let your teammates get spotted well before you. That way, you only get priority fired after they all die first. Just hang back for 30 seconds or so at the beginning of each match.

I have mostly been playing as Wheeled Tank Destroyer on Starry Night. But I typically stay at the outskirt of the city during the second wave. It basicly allows field of fire into the capture circle, while providing decent cover if needed. Furthermore, if artillery is in ANY way spottet, due to the distance, I have perfect angle to shoot them. It also provides a firing angle to the third capture zone, though the angle to the enemies comming from the south of there is blocked by the hil, there's clear view to the cap circle itself. And if it's not good enough, I usually have the speed to drive there with no problems. (I am a wheeled tank destroyer after all) But never the less I can see why it's one of the easier maps to lose. Personally, I'm having a hell of a hard time adapting to Tier 5 Hard missions with my brand new Chieftain Mk. 5... It's quite sluggish compared to what I usually drive, and with the AI driving what they do in Hard mode... Well, I have a lot to learn :D

0.12 introduced a bug that caused arty bots to shoot you even when you aren't spotted anymore (even if you relocate, they would still nail you as if you were spotted), and they've supposedly patched it out now. Also, I play pve on NA and I've never seen anybody complain about having arty on their team (except on city maps obviously). I always try to shoot the secondaries for my team on maps that allow it too.

Jingles did you know on the mission Cavalry if you kill all the enemy tanks before getting on the cap before completing the secondary it is an automatic lose even if the one of the secondary objective is behind the cap and you have to kill all the enemy tanks to get to it you will lose if you kill all the enemy tanks

Move your arty to the left of the starting position in Hydra, you will have cover from the small rise in the terrain that will give you cover from the ai arty :)

Hey Jingles, did you know that on Starry Night, there's a good chance an enemy tank will spawn behind the player artillery spawn point? I should know, I was just in a PvE match where a Main Battle Tank spawned right behind me in my Gvosdika.

Jingles, I found a spot on that map that gives solid artillery cover against AI battery. the moment the match starts, rush down to the main group spawn and hide behind the fallen tower. The way the AI works, they aren't very good at leading shots. sure you may get minor splash, but once you get around the corner, you can just repeatedly empty your clip and then drop back behind the tower and laugh as the enemy shells explode harmlessly on the tower. I may be one of the few people who actively enjoys playing arty on that map. I do it in my Palmaria every time.

I'm usually in my Paladin on Hydra so I don't have an auto loader arty but I suggest you move after every shot immediately, they will not get direct hits and you can kill them. I usually lose about 50-70% of my HP but I have yet to die in that spot so far.

I have lost this map because a tier 5 decided that hard was too hard and logged into a medium mission. So the rest of the team, mostly tier 3's, got caught up trying to kill tier 6 and 7 tanks and the second point was capped in short order. The only other time was hard and the 3rd point was capped while everyone else was driving somewhere other than that cap point.

Jingles, you should get in to cover behind the rocks to your left. If you hide there, you can shot the tanks in the valley, but the bot arties will just hit the rocks time after time ;) (Been there, done that, it worked)

But the first map has a rock formation to the left of the spawn that can be used exactly the same way the cliff face on the right of the spawn on the second map can.

Actually Jingles, on Hydra whilst reloading for the first time, reverse left and get yourself behind the rocks - they'll keep shooting at you and hitting the cover, giving their postition away. It works for me, anyway.

So glad you highlighted this problem with the AI artillery. I thought they were out to get me! More than once I have been pounded by arty, no matter where I move. Also ha the same problem when playing arty on that map (Hydra). You fire once and that area gets blasted. As you pointed out, if you move forward you get spotted. Hopefully they can make some small changes to make this better for the arty player.

Operation Hydra needs arty who moves much more. Between every shot movement is needed. There is that small cliff on left where you can hide from enemy arty. just remember where enemy first shot came.

Jingles love your videos and you're very entertaining. BUT dude watching you play arty is frustrating, a couple things I've noticed is one of the maps you were driving forward and getting yourself spotted by their tanks which is silly, drive back or go left to the cover of the mountain. Next you sit after you shoot for several seconds, you literally have to be moving as your shell is leaving your barrel or you're going to get smoked as you did. Either way love the vids keep up the great work.

The arty in PvE, as well as getting OCD vs one player, don't seem to have to aim to reduce bloom before they fire, after firing or moving. I was going full chatt in my OF-40 earlier and had 4 right in your face hits (from 2 different arty) and no, i was NOT going in a straight line.

Jingles,you gotta MOVE after at least second if not third (third on 100%) moment you pulled trigger,you must not be in same spot.also,i use my smoke rounds on myself,works.

Maybe this patch yesterday after you played would explain some of the arty behaviour: * Fixed the issue where AI artillery in PvE was shooting even at players who were not spotted yet by the enemy

I play arty and enjoy it a lot, but it's driving me nuts how on some of the older maps, the AI arty spawns outside the map and they can not be targeted. I can not think of the map names, but it's the port one with the Satcom trucks and the night, forested area where you have to protect the SAM sites. Drives me nuts.

Well , just did a map where the enemy arty spawn outside of map boundary and you can't put your reticle over it since it's outside. So basicaly it can shoot you and you can't shoot it back. You need to find cover, it doesn't. Balance

Arty is still bugged on some maps as they spawn outside the play area and you can't counter battery them. Annoyingly they can fire into the play area and hit you. They can still be destroyed by the mobile tanks but they have to fight their way over to get them. I though this was supposed to fixed in the latest patch?

hint - move behind a cover, like a rock or a house that is not destructible. then move out of its shadow to fire. You have time to do this since they wont fire until you do. After firing, move back into cover. The enemy artillery shells fly harmlessly into the rock and after they fire, its all clear for you to fire again. You actually have the advantage with this tactic, because they aren't smart enough to *not* shoot at you when your in cover, they aren't smart enough to take cover, and you get the first shot.

4:33 Have not played arty on this map so far but can't you just hug the wall to your left to avoid counter arty? Seems like they are all to your left so you should be safe. Dunno if they relocate tho.

On Hydra its better for the mbt's is to go hull down on the first bridge next to the spawn, ai dislikes firing at hulldown tanks. It seemed the ai didn't even want to fire at the bridge. Alternatively AFV's can spot the ai arty when they fire from the player team arty position.

Actually Jingles, I have it on good authority from a close friend's sister-in-law's brother's nephew that all AW artillery scripts begin with "if Jingles then..."

Never had a problem playing arty in AW. Simply moving after EVERY shot 30 meters. I may have lost 30% of my HP but that was it, PvP or PvE. But was playing only on medium difficulty so far ...

Y'know... I seem to remember some time a while back saying something about smoke rounds for arty in WoT. Armored Warfare, I DEMAND credit! (not really, but I really hope WG are paying attention here)

+simmons865 Trust me it isn't. Unless your able to use hard cover to prevent counter battery fire you have zero chances of actually dealing a useful amount of damage. It's widely acknowledged as the lowest income class in the game by a massive margin for that reason.

+darthkarl99 Disagree, yes it's lower income but I have no trouble at all in tier 4 or tier 6 arty. You just need to use that hard cover or keep moving. You also need to take some shots at enemy arty from time to time.

I said useful amount of damage. As in be equally valuable to your team as bringing another MBT along. That needs you to put quite a bit of damage on target and the poor DPM means if you ever need to focus on repositioning to avoid counter battery fire your chances of doing that become zero because you spend too much, (i.e. any), time not firing when you have a loaded gun.

Right because smoke is so useful without deep team coordination, and illumination rounds are available to all artillery and every shot does massive amounts of module damage. Oh wait none of that's true. Try again. And that's before we get into a whole bunch of others factors that your argument fails to hold up with...

My First game in my Type 59 was my first game on starry night on medium difficulty and I played mega hyper aggressive because I was mad at the enemy arty for soly focusing on me so I decided to hunt them down and by mistake ended up on the right place in the right time to kill an enemy M41 Walker Bulldog before he could cap :P

Maybe it would help, Jingles, if you weren't sitting the exact position you spawned in your arty, so that you get spotted every time you fire...

Nope. Go to settings, UI. Uncheck the boxes that say "hide incoming/outgoing damage". Then you can move them where you like with control + dragging them. :)

jingles there's a hill that u go to that's down the road and only 1 arty can hit u. I go to the hill down the road all the time and I always kill that one arty and then I'm ok

You were using the Object 430 "ice tank", not the free Type 59.

Although countering AI arty sorta easy with arty to do so due to the fact AI arty doesn't bother to relocate after a shot. They can still be annoying. I'm torn on whether or not having an arty in some PvE maps on your team is required. It makes having the arty very useful to locate and counter the AI arty which left unchecked and devastate even high HP/armored MBT's like Challengers 1 and 2. I've had one game on Operation Sapphire when 0.12 first launched where I was eating shots from Paladin(s?) nonstop on my Ariete C1 and died first few minutes into the game. I just couldn't get to a good spot for cover in time trying to avoid it.

update 0.12 is like a slap in the face to the community. I hardly believe for a second that there was much, if any feedback taken seriously from the PTR. Tanks spawn constantly behind your position, already aimed at you leaving you zero chance to evade fire. Artillery is beyond broken and beyond annoying to counter battery. I've seen FOUR artillery pings on the map in my Paladin, instantly killing me even though I move the split second I shoot. I supported this game from the beginning and become more disappointed in it as time goes by.

+William Tessier If you are on about the outgoing and incoming damage boxes, they are in the settings, I think they are in UI. Boxes you have to tick.

·Operation "Wildfire" if u bring Arty in this map enemy will spawn 4 artillery that u can counter or damaged it with arty :( because it's over the edge of minimap and can point aim circle over there :( .

I in operation Hydra as arty back the tank closer to the hill to the left and I just fire at the tanks in the valley since not only does that hill stop you from firing at the AI arty it makes it harder for them to hit you as the hill is obscuring their arc on you once all the tanks in the valley are dead then I move forward so that when the advancing tanks spot arty I am in a position that I can assist in killing the AI arty. Then I continue to help the team destroy tanks on their way to the cap zone then when the cap is triggered a arty will spawn in a area accoss the valley from your starting position I count the number of tanks that spawn over near the cap zone which is three or four and then fire a illumination shell near the arty's spawn spotting him then I let him have it and when he is dead I assist the team again by killing or damaging tanks near the cap zone.
