Brosnan's performance in this film is great, and is actually a good lesson for any Bond actor. While Craig, Dalton and Lazenby had their moments of emotion, much of the time with the character it's better to try and be as understated as possible. Compare this to The World is Not Enough where the direction and Brosnan's acting requires him to be much more dramatic (the scene where he confronts Elektra and says "he knew about my shoulder, he knew where to hurt me" in the oddest, most soap opera-esque way possible is a good example) and you can see the difference.
@subutaynoyan5372
@subutaynoyan5372 2 жыл бұрын
I always say, Craig's character started with Brosnan. A ruthless maniac that just doesn't let go of his target like some bloodhound, a man who's extremely destructive, he also portrays a ton of western ego now that Soviets were down and the ''greatest enemy'' is subdued and all. But it was 90's and most Bond movies of this era were just cheesy. With Daniel Craig, they relied more on cinematography, made Bond movies artistically better, and explored Bond himself more

The only issue I had with this scene was Ourumov's death. I just recently rewatched the movie after a long time, and not only did he feel underutilized, but I somehow missed his death until I was at the climax and wondering "Wait. Where's Ourumov?"

I liked it even more. It really reflected how much of a pawn he was to Sean Bean in this movie all this time
@hotelmario510
@hotelmario510 8 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's always been my major bugbear with the film. Ourumov should have been killed by Trevelyan or Xenia rather than simply gunned down by Bond. They wasted a really good character arc in Ourumov realising that Trevelyan, being a Lienz Cossack, is liable to double-cross him and sabotaging part of Trevelyan's operation at a crucial moment, only to be executed on the spot for his betrayal. Would be interesting to see an "evil Commie" archetype be given a bit more depth and complexity, pulling a heel-face turn at the last minute only to die as a result.
@Lysimachus
@Lysimachus 8 ай бұрын
It's likely intentional. Ourumov had political motivations and preferred power over money (hence the "next iron man of Russia" monikor) which was what he was promised as part of his participation in the crime syndicate. Russia at the time of film's release still had a popular Communist Party that - in 1995 - was polling ahead of incumbent Yeltsin's candidature for the presidency. Ourumov might have been a deliberate parallel for any political desire for the return of an autocratic Soviet system and therefore the potential return of the Cold War. But this film shows Ourumov and his political motiviations to have been nothing more than a tool to be used by Trevelyan, and you can see that fellow ex-Soviet Onatopp doesn't care what happens to him either. (Next election was a year later in 1996, Yeltsin's polling put him as low as 5th but tl;dr his campaign tactics were changed and he beat the Communist Party candidate by a couple of million votes.)
@angbandsbane
@angbandsbane 7 ай бұрын
I see both sides of the argument. On the one hand, our focus is supposed to have shifted away from him to Trevelyan at this point. But on the other hand, we'd had Ourumov as a villain since before the theme song played and to have him just get shot without even seeing him fall down (much less his body) is kind of underwhelming. I feel like they could've had their pie and eaten it too by adding like a 20 second shot of him wounded and trying in vain to get off the train before it blew up or something. I felt the same way when Bane was killed in "Dark Knight Rises."

The bit where James kills Ourumov and makes that daring escape from the train with Natalya before the bomb explodes is always my favourite scene from the film. Brosnan looked GREAT in this film ... just something about his longer hair made him look like a perfect Bond. In later movies it was shorter and just didn't look as good. I know it's a daft observation, but this clip reminded me how awesome he was visually in Goldeneye ...

Yeah ramming a tank's a great idea!

Its not like they have any other options but to stay at speed and ram the tank. JB would otherwise just keep shooting the tank-gun until the train is stuck.
@carminemurphy1275
@carminemurphy1275 3 жыл бұрын
Considering that the Train is sporting a 5 ton sharp nose made of solid iron traveling at 35 - 40 mph, ramming a Tank is not so very bad as long as you are not inside it. Watch a Diesel Locomotive hauling 100 plus loaded freight cars, and you get the idea of the power and build necessary to achieve such a feat.

@@TheLordexilius That being said though, Bond would have been better off shooting the rails in front of the train and then moving out of the way. That way he gets to keep the tank and he de-rails the train.
@kleetus92
@kleetus92 2 жыл бұрын
@@Extra-dg7uv I was going to say that as well, a shot at the rail would do way more than getting hit by 350 ton of train at 50 mph... The lead unit is some kind of EMD switcher, probably a 1500 HP unit, 125 ton, each car is another 65-85 ton being passenger cars, then figure something for armor plating... Yeah, i'd definitely take the track before i'd put 50 ton of tank at a 7 to 1 weight disadvantage...
