The APF can breach and recover really well and pretty close to the MA. MA is slightly better and sets the benchmark for breach recovery.

Endless laps in micro surf... APF 1675 or MA 1475? Wondering if the APF is just gonna be too hard rail to rail? Thanks for all the help over the years!

1475 will turn better but it’s hard to come off foil on the 1675. If you want a dual purpose light air winging and prone surf pump foil go for the 1475. If you want to lap out prone surf laps like Oskar then go 1675. 1675 also works for bigger riders winging and down wind. It is basically a bigger foil than the 1475 with a lot more camber and lower speed range.

Matt I want to learn how to downwind foil and it would be great if I could also use that same setup to dock start on no wind days. At 165 lbs, what setup would you recommend? The APF 1675 or the MA 1750? And what tail, the 220 or the 202? Or should I not be trying to combine these two disciplines? Thanks

Great question. 100% can down wind and dock start with the same set up. I would recommend the APF 1675 and 202 tail for you to do both. This is a really high camber foil with incredibly low stall speed and tons of lift. For this reason it will be easier than the MA to pump up on to foil for downwind as well as it will hold you up when you dock start. MA1750 is an amazing foil but was designed for winging so doesn’t have as low of a stall speed. It does have slightly better glide and top speed range. Some guys are loving it for DW but the APF will be easier to learn on and better for the dock start. The 202 tail adds a lot of lift to the rig as well. When you progress downwinding you might want to drop to the 180 or 220 as they will have higher speed for dw but be harder to pump up on foil.

Just bought the MA1750 with the glide 220 for downwind sup foil. so 1 month later the apf is coming out that will do this job better?? I am confused a bit why this apf could not be announced a earlier to make a better decision.

Do we need the Performance mast to use the APF line? Specifically the 1880? I currently have the A+ 85cm mast. Will that be stiff enough to handle dock starts and flat water pumping? I weigh 82kg for reference.

Thanks for the message. The APF has a ton of torque on the mast, especially the 1880. The Performance mast is definitely recommended. They recommend the Performance 655 for dock starts. The shorter the mast the stiffer it is and the closer to the surface of the water the front foil it. This creates less drag so easier access to more glide. You can use your 85cm to try to dock start with the APF is that is all you have, but it is recommended to get something shorter and in the performance construction. 655cm would be best, but the 725 performance works great too.

Can someone give me a comparison between the HA1525 and the APF1880 for pumping? Has the APF1880 much more lift and also a lower start speed?

Sure. The 1880 rides a lot bigger than the 1525. For pumping and low speed lift the 1880 is unmatched. The 1525 will be faster and have more glide but not close on low speed lift

APF 1880 TC60 232 tail w/blue shim 655 Pmast mast position just past 7 on WkT 109cm is by far the best dock start setup ever. Don’t do the new pump tail. Not as stable harder to launch and get feet set.
