Man, you really have some serious skills when it comes to breaking down the different ways of execution and explaining it in a way that everybody can understand. You would be a great coach! I see now how the exercise with the band holding and sliding to the fridge comes together perfectly for your back pressure technique! Great video!

As Devon Larrat pointed out in a ~2014 seminar a toptoller must start the pull with the pronator nearly fully contracted and rely on the static and eccentric (negative) strength to provide the attacking strength through the hand as you simultaneously utilise back and side pressure depending on your and your opponents style. The same applies if you need to do a low hand toproll in straps as Janis Jedi Amolins does.

Absolutely agree! I can't even open a girl's hand by using pronation alone (try to REALLY isolate the pronator before you start laughing and you will see what I mean), no matter how strong I feel it's just too weak by itself, however as soon as I engage my whole arm and a bit of my back, it feels like a knife cutting through butter, it's night and day difference.

Good insights about relationship between backpressure and pronation. I seem to have good pronation but not enough backpressure. A video on slipping would be great btw!

Cupping. The only way to contain pronation is through cupping and back pressure. Somebody who's strictly relies on pronation is somebody trying to do the same thing. What helps containment in a hook is supination.

Interesting points but look at min 6:00 you said “try to not open up”, what I mean by this is that if you open up, it does not matter if you have the strongest bicep or the stronger lads, pronation and tendon strength for me, is the principal force in arm wrestling since they allow you to hold and not open up

"You're as strong as your weakest link", I think you're familiar with that phase. IMO, If you don't have strong enough pronation to hold the position you are the strongest, you won't be able to facillitate your strength. In this case nor the elbow flexors, nor the back muscles will matter. Just a little anecdote to back my point, in my last tournament a battle went to the straps, a guy got a hold of me lower on the hand where he would control the pronator and managed to open my palm and get the win on me. My arm (back pressure + flexors) didn't budge, I coudn't feel him but he still managed to break the weakest link in the chain.

@@tashmoo we should care about pronation but what mindaugas said is that we dont need full motion to train it we should improve our pronation staticalywith the goal to not get turned over instead of trying to pronate when you get turned over

If you can't maintain your static pronation then you need to train it, if you can't maintain your arm angle then you need to train it. What is said in this video is 100% correct, but in a way it is also 100% wrong. It all depends on what stage you are at in your training. Strengthen what fails, training your lats and hips when you lose your riser, pronation and arm angle won't get you anywhere, Likewise if you are never losing your hand and pronator stop spending soo much time on it and move to the next link in the chain.
@fabriciusbjerre
@fabriciusbjerre 3 жыл бұрын
I think your point that the weakest link breaks the chain is a very important point. I think that this means that not very strong armwrestlers should TRAIN their probation dynamically, but ARMWRESTLE with it staticly. Train it so it can withstand the static pressure, when doing a backpressure-sttle toproll. What do you think?

So you’re not convinced that the loss of speed and explosivity from high levels of loading before the go is much of a problem? Should most all armwrestlers be loading more than many think?
@tarasaitis_arm
@tarasaitis_arm 2 жыл бұрын
Explosiveness is not one of my strengths. So I focus more on static strength. And loading helps a lot. But if someone is very explosive by nature, it can for sure be a weapon. In that case, they should not load.

I would disagree :) Daniels biggest weapon is still his flop wrist press. And it ignores my pronation. Last time I chose to not go there because of some elbow problems but I can still open his wrist. The hardest part starts after that. :)
