Brian will also have to learn by "getting stopped" and by basically letting go of any ego (I know, easier said than done 😆) and losing against better armwrestlers. The best way to get better is by losing and analyzing why you lost. It will be a real grind to truly get better but he can do it if it's what he really wants. I hope Eddie Hall and other strongmen try out armwrestling as well, when opponents are evenly matched it's very intense and exciting!

Although I don't follow his channel as closely anymore, I don't think he has done anything arm wrestling related in 9-10 months. Leonidas Arkona vs Brian Shaw is a more likely match in the future but atm Brian needs more experience I think before taking him on.
@NickscasseraАй бұрын
@Slaskhask definitely interesting. I just wonder if the strength gap is enough that it wouldn't matter.
@SlaskhaskАй бұрын
@@Nickscassera It's hard to say without knowing their respective arm wrestling lifts. Leonidas is no slouch . He did post some impressive lifts before his match with Devon and his strict curl is massive. Brian likely has a stronger grip but I reckon Leonidas has stronger biceps, his bench press is higher and he could well be stronger in arm wrestling specific lifts at least at the moment until Brian has had more time to improve. Brian has a bigger hand and longer levers which could make things close. Devon might know as he has arm wrestled both of them.

I have no training in armwrestling, I don't go to the gym so I clearly don't know what I'm talking about. But I think Brian basically needs to flip the ammount he spends in the gym and how much he practices on the table against real armwrestlers. And the teachers should not overwhealm him with information, he needs to do the mistakes and find out what works for him, his style will be very different from other people because of his very unique starting point, both strength and frame point of view. Obviously he should get corrected if he is doing major misstakes, but not so much correct neuances, not yet. A good trainer will keep his mouth even if he sees a small misstake, correct the big clunky misstakes. As an example, I have huge respekt for Devon, but Devon is far to specialized in his style, I think Devon would be amazing to incorporate from a year or two from now, not as a starting point. Anyway great interview, looking forward to see what the future holds, especially as a casual viewer.
@UncleTermiteАй бұрын
The thing is every little mistake is a big one in arm wrestling,you might not see it but anyone can look very bad or very good in just one minor adjustment, I’ve lost many matches not training fir events just by simple mistakes pointed out to afterwards . It would be different if Shaw was doing local tournaments but he’s already exposed himself to the hard core guys and fans so I dint believe that’s what he’s doing .
@kimstenback5645Ай бұрын
@UncleTermite You clearly have experience, and I appreciate the insight. I might be way off here, so feel free to correct me, but I see this through the lens of other disciplines. For beginners, it's like learning to ride a bike-at first, you’re just trying to balance, pedal, and steer. Someone who’s a pro BMX or downhill rider (like a top roller or hook specialist in arm wrestling) has those fundamentals so ingrained that they focus purely on advanced details. But a beginner, like Brian, might get overwhelmed if they’re taught those details too soon. I think Brian needs a coach who nails the fundamentals while recognizing his unique strengths-like his insane grip strength-rather than rushing into specialized techniques like slipping, which work perfectly for Devon but might not suit Brian's current level or natural style. You’re absolutely right that details matter in arm wrestling, but don’t you think the basics should come first, especially for someone so new to the sport? I’m just a backseat arm wrestler here, though, so I’m happy to hear if I’m missing something!
@rollinupeverest5042Ай бұрын
Agreed if they want to give him information then record the session and sit down with Brian afterwards and tell him what they think about what happened, instead of just overloading him in the moment like Devin does. This way if Brian wants to hear constructive criticism afterwards he can take it in fully
@UncleTermiteАй бұрын
@@kimstenback5645 basics should definitely come first the problem is Shaw is so strong like myself ( I’m a self taught arm wrestler but I’m a multiple NY champion) but I’ve arm wrestled since age 11 for fun so the movements were there when I won my second tournament at age 24 in 1998 but I still technically am weak in todays game it’s far more advanced then it was back then . But you are correct in what you said mostly.

@@kimstenback5645 Youre right. Having a coach is great adn getting pointers is great... but its like...lets say someone cant balance for crap. And u get them a coach to learn how to balance on one leg, toes, whatnot. There simply is no way the coach can just explain it in detail, and the guy just follow those instructions and learn how to balance (and never fall over in the process). U gotta get a feel for it yourself. Feel when it works, feel when it doesnt. etc. And get some pointers ofc. But also need to figure stuff out yourself.

I wouldnt say "the same". He is a 420lbs human full of muscle lol, one of the strongest and largest men to ever live. He has 100kgs on a large human male. It really is insane when you think of it. Of course his tendons etc are conditioned. You cant do strongman elite comps otherwise. But also, ofc he isnt fully conditioned to armwrestling. Plus, he has so much horsepower and strength. Its all relative.
@Average1212Ай бұрын
@@Monscent THe reason both him and eddie talk about having all the newbie pains is their tendons are not conditioned to the loads in armwrestling. There is literally nothing in strongman that puts a side pressure load on the elbow or an eccentric load on a contracted muscle. Strong men also don't have increased bone density from years of radial loads (the reason old armwrestlers can get into an armbreak and not break their arm). Weightlifting/powerlifting/strong man other than literally having strong muscles have actually had slower development time that weak pullers that have gotten strong after.,
