15T SPC here, going to briefly touch on some of things not covered. It is a great job for a variety of reasons. If you are truly in love with maintenance and don't wish to fly, then please say so. It helps flight companies pick out who they want. A majority of maintenance company's or support battalion's (they do super indepth maintenance)will be more than happy to take you. In addition the army does a fantastic job of making sure that the maintenance you do transfers over to a well paying job in the civilian sector. One of my friends just earned his A&P license from a school the army paid for and has a very well paying job lined up for him when he leaves. For those wishing to become crewchiefs, our world is less focused on major maintenance such as replacing a tail rotor gear box, and more focused on maintaining the aircraft with washes, corrosion prevention, some very basic avionics replacements, but above all its about flying as much as possible. We get to directly support ground war, and I personally find that extremely rewarding. In addition their are different SpecOps opportunities, most notably with the 160th Nightstalkers, and that is where you get to do some really fun stuff such as flying SEALS around. Things to know. Aviation is a tiny community which means a few things. First, is that you are likely to work with the same people across multiple duty stations. Second, it is an automatic 6 year contract. Third, chances are there is a bonus. And last your chances of deploying are high. I enlisted at 28 and can say with confidence that the army has its issues like any job, but its the best one I've ever had.

@titusbjorn24565 жыл бұрын
@@matty9699 There is this website called Kahn Academy that I used to to relearn some basic algebra physics and mechanics. You don't need to go super deep on it but it did help me, As for the test its self take your time double check you answers. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Also push your recruiter for it. I know for a fact aviation is hurting for maintainers. Remember its the recruiters job to make you sign the contract but if you have your heart set on something hold fast to it.

@@titusbjorn2456 Will I be able to get 15t even though I wear glasses?
@titusbjorn24565 жыл бұрын
@@JoseGonzalez-uw8nu Yes, absolutely. Myself and a battle wear corrective lenses, yet we are both in a flight company. HOWEVER if there is an issue with depth perception or extremely crossed eyes the flight physical might be an issue. If you enjoy maintenance, Aviation Support Battalions and maintenance companies always need bodies.

@@titusbjorn2456 That's great news to me. I didn't enlist 3 years ago because the counselor at MEPS said I didn't qualify since I wore glasses. I scored a 93 on the ASVAB so I think I was more than competent but I'll be sure to push for it this time around.

As a former crew chief I can say it was a great job and we flew a lot. I crewed a OH-58 and a HUEY. And loved them both. If you are joining the army and you like flying there’s no better way than working on and being in helicopters period.

I’m just about to get to AIT for 15t and wanted to ask (even though I know I won’t be able to for a while) how does one become a crew chief? Like what’s the process from just getting in to getting all the way there

Im 26, chose 15T as my mos, didnt get a bonus, but had the mindset I would take this job without one. I ship out on Valentine's day 2022. I am looking forward to gettin to work asap. I figure it'd be best to start with learning in maintenance before going to a fly crew. I plan to make it apparent that I wish to go to a fly crew eventually. However, I feel you should gain the respect of your peers and leadership first beforehand and prove yourself worthy of crewchief. I have the mindset of being a sponge, being direct, asking questions, going out of the way to offer help and just having a strong work ethic and positive attitude. To the younger fellas reading this, many have come before us and many will after. Be the person to them, that you hope YOU can look up to for guidance and mentorship.

Update: finally in big army, it's just like a regular job once you make it through basic and a.i.t... basic=crawl a.i.t=walk and big army=run keep a positive mindset and remember your reasons for joining. Some days will suck but like the Crow says,,it can't rain all the time
