always good to keep trying new set ups, you've really nailed it with addressing the 3 requirements, too many people seem to lose track of that and just load up on junk or gimmicks. .... another thing i notice is people not being flexible enough to change their set up to different seasons/locations, and try to force their system to work when maybe the simple answer is switch sleeping bag/carry a softie suit etc. A point i took from the late Mors kochanski was always carry enough insulation/suitable clothing for the environment, so i've streamlined and reduced what extra clothing i carry but its specifically chosen to deal with the weather conditions at hand.

You mentioned the new aluminum canteen cup is terrible. I have both the old metal one and the new aluminum one but I've never cooked with either one yet but I keep the new one in my rucksack for Search and Rescue. Why don't you like the newer ones? It's lightweight and holds more water.

Nice one bex I like the way you experiment with kit but the rules of shelter insulation and grub is the same.

ive kept mine simple 40 litre virtus day pack , plus virtus 17litre assualt pack with bladder plus 5l side pocket British arctic sleep bag plus thermal sleep bag ,basha and bivvy plus sleep roll and jet boil flash 2 , this allows me 365 days out I. All weather conditions , I have used the virtus 90l gu Bergen over a 100 mile trek without much problems

This video has nothing to do with Virtus, the title and thumb nail are more than clear. I am sure if you use the youtube search box and type in (VIRTUS) you will get to see the the kind of content you actually prefer to watch....

Hello ! This modification is good in terms of capacity expansion. But all this has weight. This is 1000 cordura, the backpack itself is quite heavy (including due to the PVC coating in the side pockets) What is the weight with modifications? I saw the redesign of this backpack as a restart of the model - I want to make the side pockets removable and improve the shape of the shoulder straps, I want to try S-shaped. I also wanted to add an internal flat pocket in the cargo compartment and guides for a light detachable frame (like bergen but with two stripes) And the main material, there is a very good option - dyneema fabric. This material is very durable and lightweight, and it is 100% waterproof.

NI pack weight unmodified is 1620 grams. I calculated I added 500 grams and added 10 litres, (a reasonable trade off on a persona; level) I have other videos of lightweight trekking kit, if that is your preferred option, but the majority of fans want to see surplus I now don't use a pack at all, and opted for a shoulder sling, (Cowboy bed-roll) instead used in conjunction with a webbing platform belt for a full canteen set. This will be shown in a couple of months time. (This method is only for 48 hour recreational camping, not to be confused with a bugout system, I know it's not for everyone, but I love it. I never overload my packs as I am a minimalist backpacker. I carry few components but with zero compromise to warmth and comfort. Given these elements of kit were originally in my 120 litre Bergen that weighs 4.5 kg I have shed over half the carry weight. You ideas sounds like you would add a lot of weight. Maybe I am misunderstanding your point. But regarding using Dyneema (expensive) maybe you could take the NI apart, and use it as a template, so you end up with a Dyneema NI patrol pack. I have always wanted to design my own Bergen, using the CS95 Bergen as the donner pack, Using an inverted pear shape (narrow at the base, but wide at the top) this will improve the load carriage, instead of the boxy design the CS95 as it is now. I would add another 12 inches to the Hight, and lower the shoulder harness, thus improving the functionality of the load lifters, by using taller T bar internal Frame. Currently I have mounted my modified CS95 PLCE Bergen to an external alloy frame, and the improvement on comfort is radically improved. 20 kilos now feels like 8 kg. Prior to this modification the load felt 20 kilos. This modification is the most requested by supporters of this channel, so it maybe a filmed feature. Remember I have to make videos for the majority, and not the individual. Some people will not like everything I do, but a bigger majority will. (You can't please everyone) You can always send photos of your modifications to us via the bexbugoutsurvivor ~Email address, and I would be interested to see you work.

Nice. The NI packs made in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 are of weaker quality. Before 2006 they are stronger quality. Don't ask me why. Different company maybe. I've seen one from 1990! These are the strongest daysacks out there though! I added a bergen front pouch to the front of mine too.

Great vid, love modding my kit and have adapted my NI pack but I can’t work out why you took the lid off the pack and stitched it on the back, you could have added your sleep bag on the top on the tie straps on top of the lid and left the back straps free to add kit on the back ?
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor Жыл бұрын
Different people have different requirements, not everyone carries identical kit used in the same way. None of the modifications are mandatory, as a kit minimalist I often only use a three piece system.

@@bexbugoutsurvivor if you kept the pockets off the side you can make a new pouch by stitching one of the pockets onto the back of the other and add the top back on , worked great for me …. Easy mod

Dunno if you've got yourself a crusader mug yet but gotta tell you it's the best bit of kit you'll ever buy. Totally indestructible & so versatile. I don't bother with cook sets or anything other half the time. Metal mug & a trangia or metal mug & a stick fire is all you need for a camp out. Can cook a three course meal & have a brew without any fuss!
