I got stuck on recruiting duty as a Senior NCO in the Army and I was working with a kid that was considering the Marines as well. He had great scores on his ASVAB including a 125 GT score and wanted a job in the medical field. I told him when he got to MEPS he would be shown the jobs in the medical field that he was qualified for and he could pick one in writing. The Marine recruiter down the hall told him he could guarantee him that job right now in his office. He chose the Marines and I saw him about 11 months later when he came into the recruiting statgion in his uniform and walked straight down the hall past the Marines office yelling at the top of his lungs to me saying " the fucking Marines made me a cook in the Phillipines" Priceless !

Sounds like your bro chose the wrong Benefit Tags during the interview process. Did he go open contract or something? I would always brief my poolees and their parents regarding the specific MOS and job field that were going to enter into, even so far as to get some buddies on the phone that I knew that would give them a snapshot of what their daily grind would be. Not all sadly. Had a guy who’s parents told him he needed to go do something or they were going to kick him out of the house. He went down to the Armed Forces center, walked into the first door (Marines) and the recruiter, despite seeing the man(loosely termed) looked like a giant baby(bald and chubby) took him and sent him to bootcamp. Walked up to the senior drill instructor and company commander to say “I quite,” crapped his pants in the first run, then made it all the way to the end of bootcamp, a week before the crucible, only to finally learn and use the magic words of considering self harm. The amount of extra bs we went through because of him just to have him cop out at the end was infuriating to say the least.

Fun Fact: the army is like family. It's dysfunctional. Demented. You don't like half of them. You don't associate with most of them. They owe you money. You're stuck in a bunk with the weird cousin that smells funky or the obnoxious brother always getting into trouble. The ones with authority over you make no sense. They make you do stuff you don't wanna do and tell you either it builds character or you'll need to use this skill later but never do. You can't wait for the day you can move out.

If you wanna stay average, by all means go for it, but if you wanna be elite they will not hold you back. Longer, and more frequent deployments, and ultimately better training overall. Right! And then people who do love America don’t want to die for a clown in the White House.

i trained with marines and pooles, for a couple months. i could only do 10-12 pull-ups straight when i first started before i left i was doing 20-23 pull ups in one go. they don’t play around. definitely not for the WEAK.

That's how it works. When I talked to the Marine officer recruiter I told him I was also considering Navy. He said, "You go join the Navy. That way you'll be happy because you might get your flight contract, and I'll be happy because you're not in my Marine Corps." Two months later I was on a bus entering Quantico for Marine OCS.

Before I joined the corps I remember going to an army recruiter and all they could talk about was bonuses and other bull shit felt like a number almost but the marine recruiter was like hey we don’t got the biggest budget and I can’t promise you a bonus but he promised me brother hood and sense of belonging

My marines recuiter kinda baby'd me during my sign up process. I was (and still am but a lot less so) a weak skinny nerd. Walking into the recruitment office for the first time I couldnt do a single pull up and could only do 15 pushups. My recruiter gave me the army recruitment method, than cracked down on me after I swore in and is helping me shape up before boot camp. Got 2 months before my ship date and looking forwards to it

As a current army 11B who enlisted in February the army recruiter is quite accurate. And from my marine buddy I had before joining the army I can also say this is pretty accurate.

Haha hilarious! I was this guy… I talked to the Marines first… and my the recruiter called me weak and asked if I wanted to be a real man lmao! I left and went to the Army recruiters, where they were more… uplifting lol. I became a Cav Scout. Little did I know, after training alongside some Marines… that’s just how it is 😂
