I was fat as shit, 80 Pounds over max limit. Walked in and spoke to Army, was nice spoke to me, asked me questions, I left. Went to the marine recruiter. First thing he asked was how much I weighed. I didn't know, he had me step on a scale said come back when you lose 80 lbs and you want to be a badass. 5 months later, 80 lbs down, walked in and signed with the Corps.

Window rolled down and this recruiter wearing a campaign hat leans out and says "What are you doing with your life?". He didn't even throw me a card. Just drove off leaving me there dumb founded. I enlisted that next morning at 21. I left the USMC as a Sgt.

I got stuck on recruiting duty as a Senior NCO in the Army and I was working with a kid that was considering the Marines as well. He had great scores on his ASVAB including a 125 GT score and wanted a job in the medical field. I told him when he got to MEPS he would be shown the jobs in the medical field that he was qualified for and he could pick one in writing. The Marine recruiter down the hall told him he could guarantee him that job right now in his office. He chose the Marines and I saw him about 11 months later when he came into the recruiting statgion in his uniform and walked straight down the hall past the Marines office yelling at the top of his lungs to me saying " the fucking Marines made me a cook in the Phillipines" Priceless !

Sounds like your bro chose the wrong Benefit Tags during the interview process. Did he go open contract or something? I would always brief my poolees and their parents regarding the specific MOS and job field that were going to enter into, even so far as to get some buddies on the phone that I knew that would give them a snapshot of what their daily grind would be. Full transparency and honesty was the key when I was Recruiter.

@@Senpai_B all the other branches have regularly out recruited the Marines for years due to more recognition, lower PT/ASVAB standards, higher funding, a larger media presence (movies, TV, books and such). I keep up with my former SSGT who is currently a recruiter and he was laughing his ass off while telling me about getting calls from the other branches asking how to get people to sign up because they never really had to go out and try to convince people to enlist lol.

I went to the army first and a man who's cammies were very tight and larger then me told me I had to loose weight. I went around the corner to the Marines and Sgt. Hill, lookin sharp and fit took me to my house and I got PT clothes and he took me to the highschool and tore me up. The next day after work Sgt. Hill was at my house waiting for me and I got tore up again. He started teaching what to eat and when. Dropped about 35 lbs and off to MEPS I went.

Ironically enough for me, when I went to my appointment with the Army no one was there. I kept buzzing there door. Nobody. As im about to call it quits and head back to my car a Marine (My Recruiter) who was training heavy people in that moment ended up stopping me and told me if i wanna see what the Marines are all about. I was hesitant, but said sure feeling like no matter what ill probably say no. Every other branch was hyping me with the benefits, travel and bonuses, while the Marines were making me reflect very deep inside what qualities about myself can I bring to the Marine Corps sorta like a personal deep reflection and that changed everything. Now im going to Marine bootcamp in 2 weeks lol.

I went to the Marine recruiter as a HS senior right after 9/11. Long story short they turned me away because I wasn’t 18. Walking away my Army recruiter was closing shop and asked me how it went. Told him the story and he ended up getting a three for one deal because I came back the next day with two of my homies and he recruited us all. Did 8 years as an Army Medic but I dream a lot of “What if I waited and became a Marine?” Getting out of the hood fast was too top of a priority for me then though so I have no regrets.

Not all sadly. Had a guy who’s parents told him he needed to go do something or they were going to kick him out of the house. He went down to the Armed Forces center, walked into the first door (Marines) and the recruiter, despite seeing the man(loosely termed) looked like a giant baby(bald and chubby) took him and sent him to bootcamp. Walked up to the senior drill instructor and company commander to say “I quite,” crapped his pants in the first run, then made it all the way to the end of bootcamp, a week before the crucible, only to finally learn and use the magic words of considering self harm. The amount of extra bs we went through because of him just to have him cop out at the end was infuriating to say the least.

Fun Fact: the army is like family. It's dysfunctional. Demented. You don't like half of them. You don't associate with most of them. They owe you money. You're stuck in a bunk with the weird cousin that smells funky or the obnoxious brother always getting into trouble. The ones with authority over you make no sense. Accurate AF! The Marines almost got me by attacking my ego and daring me to prove them wrong. However, I ended up going Air Force instead due to my dad, who retired as an SFC in the Army. He suggested I go Air Force, but when I asked him why he said, "You'll understand once you're in. Trust me, son." I separated from the USAF in 2017, but I understood dad 😂

Goal is to join by August of next year. But the recruiter said “you can’t do it, you’re way too fat” and I simply responded with “I know I can be a Marine. What’s the weight standard.” He said “you’re 5’8 that’s 180lbs” I weighed 355lbs in April 2023 when I first went now I’m currently 205lbs in November 2023, I can’t wait to join!

@@timothysumrall4397 it’s mainly been running a mile daily push ups, sit ups, squats, still working on get a pull up down, and lifting weights to build muscle in areas were I struggle putting on the muscle. Also I’m currently eating a Low carb High protein diet. That’s what I’ve been doing since April 2023 daily with Saturdays as my rest day.

I wanted to go Marines but I heard that it’s filled with too much Toxic Leadership and slow promotions. I also hear that Marines try to get out of the Corp and into the Army. Being a Marine was all I thought about, I was so certain that’s what I was going to do. I now ship out for Army Boot Camp in January 2024 so wish me luck.

I've probably read about 100 or more these comments, and I CANNOT find one comment that says, "I RETIRED as a Marine". Former Army soldier here. Being a Marine doesn't mean you are tougher or can fight better or run faster than a soldier (trust me, me and a Marine (both of us of equal size) threw down, and I came out on top). It just means Marines are better programmed to do what they're told because they were sold on being bullet proof. In the Army, I was taught to think on my feet and to be ready to replace my squad leader at any given time.

@@joseph__. Marines are the hardest branch to serve in. We get the least funding, we all train for combat, we're always on call to go anywhere in the world. We get the shittiest facilities and supply lines when in combat. But that U.S. Marines sewn onto your camo uniform is revered among all of the other branches. If you go to an Air Force base, they look at you like a god. If you go to an Army branch, you stand out as a top level fighter. So if you join be ready for it to be hard, but it comes with the most satisfaction and pride.

I was an engineer equipment operator, that gave me a leg up when I got out in the construction world. I'm still in construction and I'm upper management. Exactly how my experience was too. Ended up going Army because they had the exact job I wanted. On top of that, most Marines I meet are fucking obnoxious. A buddy of mine who’s in the reserves as a Marine, straight up tried to convince me that any Marine in the reserves is “more badass” than an Army Ranger or SF dude. Dude was brainwashed to the max…

It's all talk and little show. The Army doesn't focus on fluff but actual outcomes. If you suck it will be known, if you think your badass you still got some improving to do. If you wanna stay average, by all means go for it, but if you wanna be elite they will not hold you back. Longer, and more frequent deployments, and ultimately better training overall. The Marine Corps has boot camp lol that's what most of them hold onto. Nobody serving for awhile cares about initial entry training, it's not something to brag about, but laugh about.

I came out of an Airforce recruiting office, and right outside the door were 2 Marine Corps recruiters. One of them asked me to just go in and check us out. I listened for about 10mins, and the next thing I knew, I was taking the ASVAB exam. Within 10 minutes I chose my career field… and then I became a DEP. Drove home and dropped the bomb, my mom cried and my dad laughed and said good luck with that.

Not everyone can be a Airman. lol (not a flex) doing things for the opinions of others is a weakness, do something because of how much you benefit from it. If being a marine is that for you do that, if being a Soldier is that do that. I've trained with marines, they like to talk fluff themselves up, when it's time to perform reality sets in on what Soldiers do for a living - shoot, move, communicate, reign hell on the enemy.

i trained with marines and pooles, for a couple months. i could only do 10-12 pull-ups straight when i first started before i left i was doing 20-23 pull ups in one go. they don’t play around. definitely not for the WEAK.

That's how it works. When I talked to the Marine officer recruiter I told him I was also considering Navy. He said, "You go join the Navy. That way you'll be happy because you might get your flight contract, and I'll be happy because you're not in my Marine Corps." Two months later I was on a bus entering Quantico for Marine OCS.

My marines recuiter kinda baby'd me during my sign up process. I was (and still am but a lot less so) a weak skinny nerd. Walking into the recruitment office for the first time I couldnt do a single pull up and could only do 15 pushups. My recruiter gave me the army recruitment method, than cracked down on me after I swore in and is helping me shape up before boot camp. Got 2 months before my ship date and looking forwards to it
