The United States Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus perform John Philip Sousa's most famous march, The Stars and Stripes Forever. To see the lyrics please turn on your closed captioning starting at 1:04.
Hurrah for the flag of the free!
May it wave as our standard forever.
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right!
Let tyrants remember the day
When our fathers, with mighty endeavor,
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray
That by their might and by their right
It waves forever!

Yup, Sousa write them himself. You can images find manuscripts online; I know Library of Congress has them. I think there's also a well-recognized version that adds lyrics for four parts and the other sections of the song. I know I'm late, but I hope you still find this intriguing.

You people are so lucky to have selected music as your profession in the Military. I played the Clarinet and Saxophone sense the 4th grade, and all through High School. When I went in the Navy during the Viet Nam war, I never thought of trying for the band. I became a Aircraft Mechanic instead. I stayed in for 13 years but was given an early out because the war ended. Now I'm almost 70 years old and still have the Horns. My Clarinet was given to me from my Uncle who was in the Army band during WW2 and the Korean conflict. He later had his own Band after getting out and played night clubs for years. I played a couple of shows with him. That was fun. I don't know why, but, I stopped playing the Clarinet after I came home and never picked it up until this year. Now after 38 years, I forgot how to do the fingering in the higher register and don't seem to have the wind as I used to. But after seeing your Clarinet player play softly, I decided to teach myself again and just play softly. I was so grateful to watch your beginners video, because it gave me the fire to want to play again. Thank you and God Bless.

What a great story Robert, thanks for sharing. Playing music is a life long journey and it's never too late to get back into it. Glad we have inspired you to pick the horn back up! It is never to late to go back to playing. I had not played in 29 years and went to the local community band and I have never looked back. It is now my life! Check out local community bands and check out the New Horizons website for a band near you. New Horizons is all about getting back into playing. Take lessons if you have to to get started or just go and keep working on your own! I have band members well into their 80s and even some in their 90s!

The Stars and Stripes Forever are played at big gatherings of people when there is imminent danger and workers are being called to act without panicking the public. This is a tradition that I believe began with Barnum and Bailey CIRCUS! That is the music.

Why is a "piccolo quintet" playing with accompaniment called a "piccolo solo"? What is the American meaning of the word "SOLO"?
@kschoeni
@kschoeni 7 ай бұрын
@@set3777 It was written as a solo, therefore it is called "the piccolo solo", and is usually played by one piccolo. In this performance, the director decided to have all the piccolo players play it. Spread the fun around. One of the few times piccolo players take center stage. Be happy for them.

Those piccolos were amazingly in tune. I've never heard multiple piccolos sound good together but that was FIVE and it was perfect. It's so easy to go out of tune on something so small because the slightest movement will change the pitch. Those players are very impressive.

My late father loved this! They played it every year along with other patriotic songs at our local July 4th fireworks. I can just see him now next to me on my left loving every beat of this song almost more than the loud booms of the fireworks themselves. There on my right would be my late mother, passing the fried dough to us. It's so interesting how tastes and sounds can bring back such vivid memories.

When I was a teenager, as unlikely as it sounds now, the Stars and Stripes Forever - John Phillip Sousa was actually my favorite song. (Didn’t admit that to my peers, for obvious reasons 😊) Then I grew up, time passed and 2016 came. And my favorite song was displaced by a toss up between two; “Look What They’ve Done to My Song, Ma” - Melanie. And “The Thrill Is Gone!”- B.B. King. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I have been enjoying KZbin performances by various armed forces instrumental and choral groups. The discipline and teamwork that went into these performances shows up in a delightful crispness, camaraderie, harmony, and counterpoint. Well done! This may sound crazy but it's true... I grew up in a country that is not the US, and when I was a kid all I had as sort of entertainment was a radio that only pulled up AM stations and back in the '80s radio stations went off air at 10 PM. Before they went off the air they played the national anthem... then for the las few minutes they played band music and this one one of those... I just remember going to sleep everynight with some of these amazing melodies... I just recently found out the name of the track and many others that were also played on the only radio station in my little town in a tiny country somewhere out there.
