I'm from Scotland and that recipe sounds like Shortbread. The recipe I use is 8 OZ plain flour (usa all purpose) 4 OZ butter 2 OZ castor sugar pinch of salt You just rub in all the ingredients until its like a soft to medium dough and kneed it for 5/6 minutes. Shape it in whichever way you want then put it on a buttered baking tray then add a small sprinkle of sugar over the top. Bake in moderate oven for 30 - 40 mins or until golden brown. You've just put me in the mood for some Shortbread!!!

Well I can't speak for all of Canada, but we do call them baubles around here. That said, the title is 100% why I picked the book off the shelf when I first saw it in the shop :-) For a second I thought it might be a joke of some sort, but I could see immediately that it was a must-have Christmas book. I thought it was the most beautifully photographed & styled knitting book I'd ever seen and took it straight to the cashier. It's still a prized member of my knitting book collection.

I remember. We got the book for our store, which was still running. In 2015, we had to close after 42 years in business - due to 3 years in red numbers. Was very sad. But Mom retail stores are having hard times with the internet. I‘m sure, if we would have made it through 2019, we probably would have to close now. So, sharing your podcasts is for me like being in a friends house, knitting together, and having fun and great conversations! Thank you for what you do!!

What a lovely podcast - I knit some Christmas dolls while listening. I grew up in the US, and we always call the round decorations balls. I never heard the term 'bauble' until I moved to the UK. That is why the publisher used that term. Americans wouldn't know what a bauble was! Certainly not in the South. Thank you for telling us about your Christmas traditions. My parents are Danish, and I brought some of my traditions into my family here in the UK, and now we have a real mish-mash of traditions stretching from Christmas Eve into Boxing Day! A very merry Christmas to both of you. xx

I enjoyed this podcast so much! I especially had to laugh when you were discussing your cookie recipe as it reminded me of the first time I saw my great-grandmother's romegrot recipe which went something along the lines of: boil the milk and cream for a while. Melt butter, add flour, and boil a little more. Add sugar. Boil some more. My children love romegrot and lefse and we have them at our family holiday celebrations every year. I stumbled across my grandmother's krumkake iron that I received when she passed away and decided this was a good year to teach my children how to make it, so that should be fun. Or completely insane. With children one never really knows I suppose. I will save the rosettes for when they are a bit older I think; my mom has a lovely set of irons waiting for us to try! Thank you again for the lovely podcast, it really has renewed my enthusiasm to share these traditions with my children :)

I loved this video and the stories you tell. Arne knits so quickly and beautifully. I also love the pattern designer. I've designed a dozen of my own patterns and can't wait to knit them. I do get frustrated with carrying the yarn, though, and some stitches are too tight. By the way, Julekuler does literally translate to "Christmas balls" in English. However, whoever translated to English should have known that they are called "ornaments" here in the US. But, then we wouldn't have so much fun telling stories and laughing about it. Thank you for your KZbin channel. I have so much fun listening to you to banter back and forth. I always learn something new and I love seeing your home and hearing about your traditions.

I am very much like Arne re cooking. My talent for making things comes from being able to follow a pattern. This applies to cooking and baking, knitting, and crafting.
