No one said Daniel month was going to be reviews of the stepping stones of whiskey history. It's a How it's Made episode meets history documentary crossed with Magnificent Bastards. This is great. Loving it.

Something I learned back in the fall is that Canada was the first country to introduce mandatory aging. Unlike Scotland (who introduced the laws due to the temperance movement, I believe), the Canadian laws were introduced to help legitimize whisky production. Quality control was almost non-existent and distilling licenses were readily available. The big distillers pushed for the aging laws to weed out the smaller, often fly-by-night or home-based, operations. At the time, aging wasn't new, but it was less common.

Last year I picked up a bottle of Machrie Moor at BevMo on clearance for like $35, knowing nothing about it except that the retail was like 85. I should’ve bought them all! Really enjoyed it, complex but I found it a refreshing whiskey with a lot of floral and ‘spring-like’ flavors.

I agree with alot of people in the comments. Whiskey for me is more of a experience. Although I enjoy, and still am learning tasteing and noseing profiles. It's about the story, either of the days events or good friends or a great story of the whiskey. The whiskey doesn't have to be mind blowing if you can appreciate the story behind it (shakleton). I still will keep searching for my pallete but I find a great day with a so so whiskey and good friends can be better. It's the experience sometimes not the taste. Go Daniel quarter lol

Question on malts. I know single malt refers to a single distillery and all barley, but its got to be pretty rare to use a single varietal of barely right? Why don't we see information on the barley varieties a distillery uses (or any combination of grains)? It seem they usually just put the percentage of each grain. The beer industry really champions their choices in their grains/hops. Why don't we see the same for whiskey?
@murduk885 жыл бұрын
Daniel telling the story of whiskey is fantastic, even when smoke pours out of Rex's ears because his attention span can't handle more than five words at a time and it clouds up the episode :)

Need a little advice, I’m very new to whisky. Growing up it was only Jack, now after growing up and realizing from this channel how complex whiskeys can be. Went to my local and named about 10 different whiskeys all which they don’t have. So my point being is I’m gonna have to travel a long long distance to get one of the bottles, I know everything is subjective but coming from Jack (and a little Johnny Black) what is the best thing to pick up? Also I may be weird but for some reason Johnny Walker black just smells of rubbing alcohol. Can’t get anything else but the noir feel is quite nice, however on the nose just pure nail polish remover. Is that normal?

Hello you magnificent bastards, I want to say I love your videos and an thankful I stumbled on the debauchery last week. So since I started watching I have found myself searching out my love for scotch. Prior to finding you I consider myself a general whiskey fan being slightly impartial, but drawing towards my limited experience of jw red, jw black, dewars, Chivas, and glenlivet 12, as having a draw for scotch. Since finding the channel I have chased down the best whiskey selection shop in my area, and bought monkey shoulder, jw black(for a revisited reference), auchentoshan 3 wood, and ardbeg 10, and have fallen in love with Ardbeg. My question is, do you think it is odd to have an early scotch explorer being absolutely obsessed with the medicinal note and heavy peat in ardbeg? And where are my best directions to go to find more of these notes? My only reference I'm seeing now is to chase down islays, but are there some complex highlands or peated speysides that would suit my fancy and not beat my wallet to death?

question, what does a bottle for Ardbeg go for in the U.S. on average? in the LCBO here in Ontario it's $100.10 CDN,($74.usd) (44 pounds in Scotland, which currently equals $76.79cdn or $57.25usd) every online site either says they can't deliver to Canada, or warn the delivery could be scooped by customs so i m hoping it's not as expensive n the States. Then next time i make a weekend visit i'll know if i should bother looking for it or not?
