@@yoonievxrse_1463 close. But it's not time travel pee say. t's the heptopd's nonlinear orthography that allows one to free their brain from the concept of "now" and enter a block time (see Eternalism) perception of thier reality. This allows Louise to experience her "future" before it happens. Furthermore, it's insinuated by Costello that they experience thier entire existence simultaneously and infinitely and there is no one "now". You can infer this even they tell the Russians that "there is no time", which they misinterpreted as they are running out of time. Great movie. Was a religious experience for me.

Instead, I had to come to the movie trailer's comments section on youtube to say: how much of an experience this movie. Totally captivating. Not your average sci fi movie, this one's deep and kinda alters the way you perceive things. Kudos to the director for doing such an amazing job at capturing the moments in its pure perfection!

Only that what you call memories are actually glimpses of a possible future in her present mental state. She only gains insight through participation in this future. Remember when she said her yet-to-be born daughter's story didn't start from the beginning, but from when they (the aliens) arrived? Or when she said to Ian, "I now know why my husband left" even though she was speaking to the yet-to-be husband, Ian, who would become the father of her daughter. So, when she asked Ian if whether knowing how his life will play out, he would change anything, she knew that depending on her choice: they would have a child together; the child would have a rare, degenerative disease; he would leave, and that her daughter would die. Of course, because she wasn't dealing in linear time, they weren't processed in chronological order.

@@jvr6272 The aliens' arrival made what was inchoate become fully formed. Our language, because of its linear nature, influences and limits our reality. We cannot fully perceive that which we haven't the words to describe. Being multi-lingual though, her thought processes were already multi-dimensional and I believe, enhanced her ability to conceptualise those futuristic visions about her daughter. But when she learnt the aliens' language, which is non-linear and more plastic, she broke that barrier and her reality became limitless. It was only after this that she came to understand of a lot of the things she saw in her visions: like why her yet-to-be-married husband left, and bent time such that she could use future insight to make a choice in the present (General Chang's wife dying words and its use in averting a war with the aliens)- abilitiess she didn't possess prior.

insults the human intelligence with a retarded secondary exposition from a secondary character when it's supposed to be only told from Amy Adam's POV. The movie pacing gets fucked up after that exposition sequence. The editing was too rapid as well giving us too much information. Looked like it belong on the history channel. It was also a lazy time skip instead of building those moments up slowly as the first half did. The bomb also ruined the movie. It also constantly attacked Russia and China government as paranoid freaks. The movie is politically pandering and logically flawed. It's a really stupid movie that is technically lazy (HEAVILY LAZY ON THE VFX). The sequence where we learn the twist, you can see the horrible green screen when Amy Adams hairline is flowing all over the place. The fume FX for the smoke and fog were really bad too. The clouds were terribly fake. The lighting on the model they used for the ship is completely off and looks like it came from a video game. The ship is uninspired and the most unoriginal look ever. There's a scene that wasn't motion tracked correctly, which is a very amateur move coming from Hollywood. There's three cuts after where the ship is shown to be smaller and closer from three cuts before creating a continuity error. The director reuses baits from previous movie of his, which is unoriginal and not great at all. No need to give us subtitles, way to spoil the fucking twist. There was no tension or suspense because they did that. Also, being able to see time as nonlinear because they learned a language is the most stupid twist I've ever seen and heard. This movie failed on every level. The soundtrack is repetitive and Max Richter has already been overused in so many other movies. They failed to make that score flow with those pretentious flash forwarded sequences too. I most particularly did not like the directing choices, which made the cinematography subpar. The movie costed $47 million, Zemeckis's Twin Towers looked 100x realistic than everything in this movie and it only had a $30 million budget.

First of all, I never said anything about effects of CGI and I personally don't give a shit. I was talking about people finding this movie boring. I admit it seemed a little off in few scenes. And if you think that a few nations trying to attack aliens seems unrealistic or flawed logic to you then you need to get your head checked. The world leaders never seem to agree on anything and you just assume that they'll all sit back and do what USA does? Out of 12 nations there were obviously some nations that were bound to react violently after interpreting the word weapon. And the movie was gripping enough for me and didn't seem boring at all.

And a normal person would never bitch about clouds and shape of the ship. And if you didn't like the score then there's something seriously wrong with you.

the score is those repetitive heptapod noises. it's a one note loop, which never differentiated throughout the movie. the max richter songs are not original scores. many other movies have used it before. it was used in shutter island. it's a very overused piece.
@UnbelievabIeMontages
@UnbelievabIeMontages 7 жыл бұрын
that is not true at all. no other big country has reacted violent in the past 20 years, except for small groups of islamic people. America though in the past 20 years has reacted violently, invading countries. When was the last time China attacked anyone? China and Russia are smarter than that and realistically would never call for missile attacks on the ships. There's this thing with Hollywood movies where they keep making Russians and Chinese villains. They still can't get over their hatred towards communism, which no longer exists.

I dislike how the ships are totally unrealistic. Football or dinner plate - no difference, they're both ridiculous. Even Independence day did it better. The non-humanoid aliens is great though, yes. On the other hand, the written language looks absurd. No reason to be writing in circles like that. It's a waste of space and pointlessly stylized. A creature that mastered interstellar travel would have a lot more efficient writing than that. Not only that, but they'd also have a really good idea of how to communicate with humans, such as via math or pictures. However, the movie wouldn't exist without stupid aliens that stubbornly use a stupid language, so whatever.

It shows perfectly the idiotism of humanity, media and military but also a light at the end of a tunnel which can be reached only if all of us joined forces. Also, the fact that most of us would never change anything even if we knew the outcome cause we actually appreciate the experience. I'd never change a second with my loved ones even knowing what might happen. AHH this movie always leaves me in pieces. P.s. Amy Adams is perfection.

_Parousia,_ a mystical concept related to the second coming of the Christ. It means "arrival" in Greek. The heptapod drawings are sigils from Enochian magick. These sigils are maps of the human brain to activate those portions of the brain. The two heptapods are the right and left hemispheres of the human brain. This is an esoteric film.

This film goes actually far beyond an alien contact story. It's a masterpiece and a must-see movie. It has a stunning construction and a deep philosophical level not to mention the amazing sountrack you would listen to crying tears of blood. For me it was as good as Interstellar and we know how rare this movies of high quality are.

We don't know that. We all see tanks and copters firing, but we haven't seen what the aliens are doing. Are they retreating? Are they preparing their massive ships (who look like turds) to crash into the Earth simultaneously to cause widespread shockwave damage? Are the aliens going into space to release their excrements? Who knows....fuck this language barrier.

What happens is that people get a know-it-all complex and are unable to enjoy pieces of sci-fi because they are cynical and poke holes into it until they ruin it for themselves instead of seeing it for what it is, a piece of art. It's science FICTION. It doesn't have to fit your criteria of however you "think" things should work. The truth is that NOBODY knows how things work, not even our leading quantum physicists. You shouldn't need to dissect movies apart until you ruin it for yourself, we have the real universe for that.

+lawrence That _could_ be the plot of the movie if it turns out to be a bad adaptation, but it's most certainly not the plot of the story it's based on. If it's anything like that the aliens and everything related to them are basically a McGuffin... except possibly (one of) their language(s), although even _that_ is only a tool to tell the real story... although, then again, the story itself is a tool to play with the implications of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis in a similar way as other works of science fiction would play with the implications of, say, black holes, for instance...
