I think you may find the propane wall mount heater that has ceramic tiles to be more efficient. Open blue flame uses a lot of propane and doesn’t heat as well as the tiles. That was my experience anyway..here in Northern Central Maine. Damn cold here in winter!!

Handy tip for the stove...light it from the top... let the fire prgress downwards ..small logs on bottom, kindling on them, birch bark on top. Just light the bark and she'll burn down faster than a typical pyramid lit at bottom which is best for open ventilation fires 🔥👍

Have you thought about laying a fire before you leave, just get it ready so all you have to do is strike a match when you return. We heated our home for years with just a wood stove, we would lay the fire before we left for the day and it was a quick light to get it going.

Love your videos! Keep up the good work! Maybe look into an auxiliary gas tank for the generator. I know they make an adapter for the Honda generators, I’m sure they make one for the Yamahas also. Just hooks up to a boat gas tank essentially and extends the tank size by a lot. Just a thought!
@alaskacabinadventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you!! Funny enough I do have one of the auxiliary gas caps that essentially pulls gas in from a bigger tank. I have been tempted to use it, but afraid I would burn through twice as much gas since I often let the generator die for hours at a time, to enjoy the silence and darkness though, however, after this weekend I’m beginning to think I need to hook one up 😂. Before you leave your cabin, make that fire and have it ready to go. Put matches or something so somebody can light the fire with frozen hands. That could be you or it could be somebody else in an emergency situation.
@alaskacabinadventures2 жыл бұрын
You are spot on! I usually do exactly that, except when it is -20° I don’t have the luxury of letting the fire die out before I leave. Otherwise, it would be much too cold. Thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback!
@ZephodBeeblebrox2 жыл бұрын
@@alaskacabinadventures Even in -20, you could still sweep the remains of the fire into a steel bucket, spray a little water into the grate to extinguish lingering sparks and then build the fire before you open the door to dump the fire remnants and let the cold in.
