My EXB was cogging with no motor in it, as bad as yours is, after investigating why this was, the diffs are assembled backwards due to the angle cut gears, if you flip the ring gear to the other side, change the motor direction, it becomes super smooth, I have a 1650kv and now get no cogging, 4 battery packs later still going good

It's also can be the differential case or bulkhead. Sometimes the plastics wear out and the bulkheads are not old me the same some could have different measurements and then you need to shime shime shime the rear and front diffs. I just put a new bulkhead on my Kraton EXB 6S and still does clicking because of the irregularities of production for these bulkheads. Sucks

The issue seems to be that the rear is not LS, when the diff was designed to be. Their change in plates to keep it open just isn't working for some reason. Making the rear LS as well sounds like the solution.

great video brother. thats great to know about cogging never knew that. My EXB havent used it yet but my rear diff was very tight when i got it all had 3 shims top and bottem very smooth emtyed the cup and filled her with 10k also added 1 shim behind both sun gears just so it wont be too loose. do i need play from left to right when holding the diff? right now has very little or no play but spins very smooth. hopeing it wont be a issue when i run her this sunday. i know they do need alittle play between the gears when they get hot metal expands a little inside the diffs. all others have play which you can feel just not the rear diff.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Ya, those rear diffs on the EXB have been quite the conversation since it came out. You definitely want to make sure she's shimmed up correctly, and nice and tight, but smooth.. As far as when holding the diff in your hand, and sort of grabbing it by both ends and and feeling for left and right play. Its possible one or both sides could have a tiny bit of play. From what I understand, you don't want that, or you want it to be very very little side to side movement. then, after you've placed the diff into the vehicle, as you know, you'll want to shim the outside (left) of the diff, so that there is no side to side movement in the bulk head housing. Have you installed a wheelie bar? I would highly recommend one. What a lot of people dont realize is they do more than just protect your wing from getting scratched up (from wheelies), but they also just protect your wing mounts system as a whole as well. let me know how your Sunday BASH goes brother!!

Yes I did shim left side or diff cup. 👍 I saw that British guys video for making a bullet proof EXB diff. Mine is probably 2nd batch so they made a small change in the spacing I guess. Well I can say from personal experience, that what ever the manufacturing process is for the Arrma gears in the diffs, especially the spiral cut ones, is imperfections left between gear teeth. amongst all my vehicles (v3 and v4 parts, over time I've swapped v4 parts into my v2 Kraton), I've caught it in 3 separate diffs (2 rears, and a front), had something like a burr or something, with the thing open, I slowly spun the thing by hand, and would see the ring gear and output gear try to push apart, and every single time I'd see this separation happen, upon closer inspection I'd find a lump or something between the teeth, that I'd have to file or cut away (and then the mesh would be smooth in that area). I guess if these gears were machined, that might not be a problem anymore.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah one of the downsides that you get from the manufacture, their operations are so big that they cut corners in order to move product. That’s why it’s always nice when they’re such a strong outcropping of third-party vendors making upgradable parts. I know GPM makes equality set of hardened steel gears if you ever want to get something different then arrma brand.

Sounds like a bearing in your motor went out. Remove the motor, remove both caps secured to its ends, and inspect those bearings. Hopefully the motor is ok, Most people have the best luck finding the right bearings they need on eBay. Let me know if that is actually the issue. 👍
@HardcoreRC
@HardcoreRC 3 жыл бұрын
Nice video - yes the EXB diffs do fit but as you say you need to put the whole diiff and main gear in plus the input gear, i would recommend not going with any LSD effect in the rear - either go with 3 start plates each side or the new large shim that's about the be released and keep the rear diff open, or you may blow the rear diff. You do still need to add at least one shim to the outside bearing on the main gear side to push the main gear onto the input gear more

Ya, gotta make sure those things are shimmed, at the minimum it adds to longevity. I think mine stripped out because I tossed some bigger tires and and she didnt like it. @ValFPV
@ValFPV 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics where do you want to put earplugs into?? The inner differential right? If you put it into the inner diff it's basically like really thick diff oil so I wouldnt think stress on the outer gears would change much? Putting it on the outside gears wouldn't make any sense to me at all since that would make the car slower and put a lot of stress into the center diff.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Whoops I miss spoke above, I’m not going to put ear plugs in the front. I plan to put earplugs in the center. Silicon earplugs is basically just one step below locking up your differential. So there’s a little bit of give. I’m not too worried about the impact it’s going to have on my drive train or my outdrives. But there definitely will be an added level of impact on them. So I’ll have to monitor them I guess. But most people who put silicon earplugs in their center differential seem to really like it. And I haven’t really heard anything about it adding undue wear on other components of the vehicle. We’ll see
@ValFPV
@ValFPV 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics well there seems to be more long term wear on driveshafts for me since I've switched from 50k to 200k in the center diff. Also I think it's going to actually put more stress on the outer diff ring gears since on a landing on 2 wheels with some throttle it will now be even more stress just on the front or back, instead of getting diffed out to the other side a bit.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын

Hello! I have an MST drift rc car with a rebuilt limited slip differential, I have 2 main issues: The car has a clicking noise in sync with the spur gear, however all things point to the noise being inside the diff housing. On high traction surfaces, if i hold the car back, and spin the wheels, about half the time, the motor and spur gear move, but my wheels have extremely low rotational input, or just dont spin at all. Unfortunately my father was the one who swapped my rear end, so I have no clue what I am doing back there. If you could just give any insight on what this might be, that would be much appreciated!
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Is the clicking noise a constant thing? Always there no matter what… when the gears are spinning? If so, he might have the mesh too tight. As far as not getting direct power to your tires when holding the vehicle, are you noticing that the power is not presenting itself to one or other of the front or rear? Meaning is one of the two tires (whether talking about the front or the rear) spinning at full, while the other isn’t? If that’s the case, this is pretty typical of limited slip differential‘s. So unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying, you might just have a mesh issue.
@cadetkonki2687
@cadetkonki2687 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics the clicking noise like I said is in sync with the spur gear, and it only happens when the wheels have weight on them and have power inputted to them. When i stand the car and do the same, no clicking is present. About the wheel rotation, (2WD drift car) it’s somewhat random, sometimes both will be fine, sometimes only 1 spins, as the diff should allow sometimes, but, other times, the motor and spur spin and both back wheels do not. I have not been running the car recently as I am afraid of grinding my gears down smooth.
@EastTactics

That sounds like you have s specific spot worn down on likely your spiral input gear, maybe both the input gear and the main crown gear. When lined up, you get nothing.
