From a R/C guy from the 80’s, try this for the Granite. Run the suspension in the rear slightly negative as far as how the A-Arms sit, and for the front suspension, remove the spacers from the top of the shocks so the A-Arms sit in a negative position. Keep the stock tires on, you will be amazed now how difficult it is to flip the Granite on dry asphalt and how much it slides and drifts at 40-50 MPH. It will handle like the typhoon in a sense. The lower the truck better it will handle body roll at high speeds.

There is a setting for punch, that determines when the ESC starts to throttle the power to the motor when temps get high, it has levels 1 (most sensitive) to 5 (least sensitive). You could try running a speed run, and then checking the ESC and Motor temps with a infared temp sensor. Maybe the ESC has been tuned to stop sooner, or perhaps.. the fans on the other two are stronger/better? I noticed if I do 2-5 speed runs across a football field, the ESC/Motor will turn off on my Senton 3S BLX 4WD, I'm using 50C 3S 5000 mAh G2 batteries. I know on the Vortek, you can turn on the Telemetry to get some data on what's going on inside the RC.

Good video, I am on the fence with the Vorteks and the Typhon. In one of your other vids, I saw you test out the Vorteks on the track and it did ok. I have a friend who has a track and I am doing serious research on this one. I have never had a buggy, so I am hopeful it'll be awesome. I had a Traxxas T max 2.5 nitro when I was stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo and it was great, until a neighbor up our street ran it over with her minivan. Then after that it got too expensive to drive. Hands down the Typhon in that situation. The Typhon you see here is actually my 7-year old son's vehicle. It handles GREAT, which means less going out and flipping it over. Smaller kids tend to not understand they need to slow down for corners. With something like the Big Rock, it will be on it's roof A LOT. The Vorteks can be a good option also - but since the Typhon comes with the 17mm hexes straight out of the box, you will have more tire and wheel choices.

At the $400 sales price they are still asking, it is honestly ridiculous. The Maxx is a much newer design vehicle that is really nice. Problem is the price tag. I think its the higher gearing combined with fairly large tires. The Typhon can get away with the speed because its so small and lightweight. The Vorteks is so high geared out of the box for a 3S Stadium Truck/Truggy. Several tests have hit 55 MPH even without the optional high speed pinion. Maybe for general bashing drop the pinion by 2 teeth, then get a good 3S Pack with 6000mAH and 60C or more discharge rating and the truck should run much better.

My other batteries are 6000mAh 50C HRBs and I get around 30 seconds with them. So I've bought a new 8000mAh 100C DXF battery to try and also put in a 15t pinion. These work together very well in my Vorteks and I now get very good run times, but it's an extra expense that shouldn't be needed.

@@rogerwilco5187 took our vorteks out for its first park run today. Aware it was power hungry bought it a brand new CNHL Racing 6200 100c battery. Lasted less than 10 mins with only a couple of full throttle runs. With less potent and lower capacity batteries with more full throttle activity, my Big Rock will last for 30 mins. Really disappointed for my daughter as her first proper RC.
@rogerwilco51873 жыл бұрын
@@patmarcus172 That's really disappointing. I don't know why there's such an enormous difference between the Vorteks and the Typhon or Big Rock. My Typhon is the original version so it doesn't have the Spektrum electronics. Which is in your Big Rock? I know on testing both motors out of the cars that the Spektrum motor used a little more power than the older Arrma motor, but even with the Typhon motor in the Vorteks it still used considerably more power than when it's in the Typhon. Also using a different ESC wasn't any better. The one thing that helped the most was dropping the pinion from the 18t to a 15t. I'd hate to see how it does with the 20t pinion. Also both diffs in mine were scraping and binding badly so that was adding extra load in the beginning. I've run out of ideas.

I have the Granite, Typhon and Senton in my 3S collection and for messing round the house bashing you can't beat the Granite, I adjusted the wheel alignment and put a 20t pinion with dual fans and it rips, it stable enough for speed runs on our local soccer fields and it's fast, the Senton has a 26t I believe but it's pretty wild and flips a lot, I have even driven the Typhon, I'm saving it for speed runs because it's not built as beefy as the trucks. The Vortek I just didn't buy it doesn't appeal to me in any way. I'm sure it has its place just not with me.

@@RoadsideRC it still has the wrapping on it, I ordered tires and wheels for the street, a aftermarket motor plate so I can mill the slots for a 28-30t pinion, I will lower it and then I will speed test it. I borrowed this combo from MrMad2424, he ran 81.1 mph with only a pinion change so if I can meet or beat it I'll be very happy. If I make 90+ mph with stock car I will retire it and start something else. I really recommend a 20t for the Granite with a good fan. Mine never got over 120 degrees running hard. That Vortek might surprise you as well with a gear change. I have a 6S mojave with the optional speed pinion in it and the Granite is almost as fast on the back wheels. And this is not on pavement. It's on soccer fields. About 400 yards of golf course ty]e grass. The changes really woke these vehicles up into missiles.

Even better then some pro-RC's channels. Just thought to tell you. All the way from Australia :) The Vorteks seems to not be the best handling or landing, it appears unstable compared to the others ? I got a 3s granite a few weeks ago and when I got it I tried my goldbat 3w 3200mah plane batteries and had the same lvc issue but once my 5200mah 3s came in I haven't had an issue. Also the c ratings on my new ones were obviously higher since I got them for the truck specifically and I thought maybe the esc was trying to pull power to quick and the discharge rating wasn't able to keep up.

@@RoadsideRC having done more research I actually don’t. I do think the plane batteries weren’t potent enough for the granite but I think the vorteks probably is entirely down to where the LVC is set on some batches of the vorteks. Having now tested mine with several different lipos, all in excellent condition, that have only ever been balance charged, they are all showing LVC at around 3.8v whereas on the Big Rock it doesn’t kick in til a much lower point. I think say an 8000mah or above (if you can find one that fits) would mask this but you’d still hit the same cut off point.

Running on asphalt will always wear the tires down fast. I would recommend doing the 17mm hex swap on it ( I have a video on how to do that) and then running 1/8 buggy tires on it. In that 1/8 buggy size, there is EVERY tire thought of. From on-road specific tires, to mixed use, to full off road. It gives you MANY choices in tires.

Both are solid trucks from what I hear. Obviously, I have personally owned the Granite. But I never have owned the MT10. From what I hear, and with my experience from the MT8 - I might give the overall performance to the MT10. One of my issues with the Granite is that it rarely "sticks" a landing. It tends to bounce a lot from large jumps. Watching other folks' videos, the MT10 seems more planted and composed in those situations. I guess it all depends on driving style and where you are going to be though! The wealth of knowledge around upgrades and mods for the Arrma 3S lineup is certainly worth something also.

I don't have the vorteks yet but I have a pretty modified granite, and a stock typhon 3s and I feel like the granite doesn't get enough love. If you stiffen up those shocks you can make it handle pretty identical to the typhon. I'm definitely getting a vorteks next but I LOVE my granite. My first big suggestion is to stiffen up those shocks in your granite and it won't roll, mine hardly EVER rolls over, granted it's also on the low setting with RPM Suspension Arms but I have TLR 60k in the front and TLR 80k in the back which some people would say is way too stiff but honestly it handles 30x better on even the worst terrain in my big foresty Alabama back yard. For reference I run the same weights in my Typhon and it also makes it handle just ridiculous and gets rid of the chassis slap when bashing.
