Some advice I heard for low shutter speeds: use the 2 second timer setting to make sure there’s no movement in the camera by the time the shutter opens for the shot. 👍

I got this camera with the kitlens as my first ever camera a month or two back. Got the body and kitlens combo for £570. It seemed like a good deal but I haven't gotten to use the camera at all really cause of uni so I cant wait to get out in the summer!

Thank you for this awesome explanation. It was very helpful with my set up. I am using it only for photography right now, as I am really trying to learn the camera. I followed everything you showed step-by-step, and there were certain settings that I cannot seem to open. My camera shows:, “This operation or setting not available as follows”. I tried to find another way to get to these options through the Sony manual, and Google search, with no success. I get this with problem with: exposure composition, shoot mode, Iso mode, white balance, and creative style. I thought I’ll give it a try and hope that you have an answer for me, and maybe others that have this problem.

Sony's own Imaging Edge Desktop software (free) will display and allow editing RAW (ARW) photos. Not as powerful as the expensive Adobe options, true, but great for beginners like me.

As a default where should the photo settings be? From my understanding you should start with: 100 ISO Lowest aperture I am not sure with shutter speed and adjust as needed.

Hello and thank you for nice introduction for right settings. Today I install another lens (instead bace 16-50), Sony 15mm 1.4 and after pushing defocus button was appeared note "Change the lens status or change the lens". I could't found any lens status in menu , so maybe you know what to do ? Thank you.

I almost pull the trigger on this one, but as soon i realized that it doesn’t have “AEL on half-shutter-press” , I stopped. It’s insane that Sony crippled this camera (effectively an a5100), in order to force you to buy the a6700.

depends on the lens. get a lens with a very low aperture. the ISO on low light on this camera is pretty good, defenitley with the noise reduction this camera has

Hey nice video! I want to make some portraits, I have some questions for my settings: Aperture priority mode selected ISO AUTO White Balance AUTO RAW&JPEG ON JPEG QUALITY EXTRA FINE JPEG IMAGE SIZE L:24M ASPECT RATIO: 3:2 this can be good settings starting for making a portrait that will be cropped for instagram? I can take the photos in the ration 3:2 and then crop it for the IG requirements without any problem in post-production? I'm waiting for some help, thanks to everyone!

Im trying to follow you on min 2:40 on the focus settings but the F number on mine only lowers to 4.0 and on yours it lowers to 2.8. Any idea why? Im new to this so any tips and suggestions are welcome… thanks in advance ☺️

F is aperture and it depends on the lens you are using

You cannot use it without a lens. The lens directs the light containing the image onto the sensor.

This camera is certainly better for video. But if you have it anyway these are the best settings for taking photos.
