For how young the animation is what it's got is phenomenal. I'd love to see more animations+art from you. Probably gonna do a little sketch of the boy and his dog later. @artist_of_nightmares. Johnson Baron Caveler ok usually I make a coherent and understanding argument for people like you but EVERYTHING in that statement is wrong. First of all, the dog is the entire reason he didn’t kill himself, he found a reason. Second of all, it was a joke. Third of all, how in the world did you get THAT as the moral??? I think it was probably meant to be Even when you think you’re worthless, even at your very lowest, there’s always a reason you’re here.

Alby Forever yeah, i agree with that; but dogs shouldn’t be the answer as to why we are still alive. true, dogs, as well as other creatures, make people happy because of their positivity and radiating happiness, but depression is a mental illness that can’t be solved with just cute pictures of dog and motivational speeches. in the story, the boy was contemplating on committing suicide when he heard a bark, yes? he stopped to take a look and lo and behold, he saw a dog stuck on his leash, drowning in the river, correct? he had a change of heart from killing himself to saving the dog, and he did so. yada yada, cross river, get dog, put dog on top safely, then climax. the thing that made me say that “dog didn’t do shit” was at the end when boy was about to fall. i thought ‘hey! i bet that dog would hold the rope to save the boy!’, but i was soon disappointed. i get that realistically the dog couldn’t save the boy by pulling the rope since the boy was heavier. to clarify my interpretation of the moral of the story, don’t commit suicide just because you think the world is beating you, and *only* yo alone. others will suffer the same way, and there are people who have been there. those who committed it had a lot on their mind, so i can’t blame them (rip etika). but there are people who can help you, even if they have to risk their lives just for you, and i think that’s sweet. oh yeah, fuck the dog though. dog could’ve just hooked the rope to the trunk or log.

i can’t put it into words but it just really touches me how they were both abandoned or at least given up on by others, and all they needed were each other to survive that moment. it just goes to prove that the smallest actions can change everything in some cases. it’s sad how that boy probably had nobody else who believed in him. all it took was to see a representation of his suffering and worth in the form of something else.
@thelonedreamer90507 жыл бұрын

I know this was posted three years ago but I just discovered it, and I wanted to leave a comment because something in particular hit me. It's a powerful metaphor, the boy taking the noose - the representation of all his pain and anger, everything hurting him in that moment, taking all of his heartache and turning it into something to help another. It's so hard to feel that kind of strength in yourself when you're in the dark places. Thank you for this. Even though I cried and I hate crying, thank you.

Speaking from experience, depression is one of the most devastating things that can happen to you; sometimes people take it lightly and just use it as an annoying phrase but when you go through this stuff and get through it there’s no greater feeling in the world after you have conquered what you have fought. I say speaking from experience because when I was twelve I went to an abandoned warehouse where I would chill out after school, once I was there however and these kids offered me some crystal meth, which, unfortunately, I took. I fell into a dangerous spiral of drugs and pain and it got to the point where I would start literally stabbing my own arm with a kitchen knife. This helped me but only made the pain greater, eventually I came to the warehouse one day and it was completely empty, no crackheads, no distractions just me and the world. After about an hour of lying on my back and thinking about how shit my life was I decided that the only way out was death and I walked to the edge of the ceiling on top of the warehouse, because it was abandoned it was just one big complex of floors meaning, no safety rails or any protection. I wrote a note to my mum and dad and brothers about how it wasn’t their fault and they should carry on living their lives without me and not be burdened, with that done I clutched the note in my hand and simply stepped off the edge. However, as I stepped I changed my mind, in that one millisecond I decided that I want to carry on and let myself die knowing I could of done so much more and I started viscously clawing at the passing wall and after what seemed like an eternity I grabbed onto a loose girder and pulled myself up. I sustained no injuries in this attempt and to this single day none of my family know anything about my depression, drug use or attempted suicide. I have however told my friends about this and they haven’t believed me until I showed them the entire notebook full of sorrys and to this day that notebook has been kept under my bed in a floorboard, along with a knife and drug bag. I like to sleep on top of them because it means I have conquered that horrible part of my life and if I ever start to feel sad or lonely I just remember how far I’ve come since that faithful day in the old warehouse. If your still reading this comment down to here, thank you for staying and I hope I’ve persuaded you not to even think about taking your own life. Bye

Crying is the price we pay for living. Whether it really is worth it is up to you. As someone who has dealt with suicide, I believe that it has been worth it. If you are still struggling, stick around a little longer. You might see that there is still something there that might make it worth it.

this broke me down so far because it hit so close to home. I've struggled with mental illness and suicidal thoughts and still am, even though im doing better now i still have the occasional episode. i relate with this because...the boy found a reason to live. the dog saved him, and he saved the dog. they saved each other, and that was the point where i really started crying. the visual storytelling here is beautiful, and the lack of words pronunciates it perfectly. i really appreciate the themes presented in this, and the subtle encouragement to those suffering that there is someone they can save. even if it's just themselves, or a dog, or a friend, or 5000 peopld, just by staying alive you can 'save' them. thank you to the creator for this animation.

I have been scared so so scared because my sister has had those thoughts and that is why that 'hit me' as hard as it did.And I just want everyone that has those thoughts to find someone or something to live for cause let me tell u, your reason to live is out there not just for yourself but for anyone and everyone. Even if it is the silliest reason to live, sometimes that silly thing is huge. By huge I mean a big reason to be here, for example living for accomplishments. You know I may not know u or anyone here in the comments on a personal level, but I have a feeling u are all wonderful people who deserve to live. There are so many things I could say but I can only say so much in one comment. One last thing have a wonderful,wonderful life. Live in the moments u have.

I’ve watched this video twice. Two years apart. The first time I watched this I sobbed my eyes out because I knew that when I finally got to that low of a place there would be no dog there, no person, nothing would be there to help me. Not my family, no one. I thought I knew that I wouldn’t graduate or find friends or find someone to help me pull me out of the hole I was in. I remember calling out to God begging for him to fix me. Trying to tell my mother I was depressed and her dismissing me. Same thing with my friends. I held on for an entire year to all the hope I had left. Started self harming the next year. It destroyed me. I was venerable and fragile and of course that’s when the most traumatic experiences of my life happened. I wasn’t living anymore every single day was just trying to survive and because of how low I was for so long my brain chemistry was imbalanced making everything just a little bit worse. It took me a year and a half to try and tell my therapist what was really going on. In hindsight I should’ve said something sooner but I felt like I couldn’t. Because no one else cared so why would she. But I found something the beginning of this year too. I joined marching band and my friends there became kind of my family. I opened up to my friend I knew also struggled with mental illness and it was really nice to be understood. If you are reading this you might be where I was and you are probably thinking, “Wow, she’s going to tell me I’m not alone or whatever bullsh*t I’ve heard thousands of times before.” But just hang on a second because that’s NOT where I magically heal and get better in a week. It’s NOT. I was still self harming that entire time and if I was getting better it was painfully slowly. My parents still didn’t know. Then of course, quarantine. Being stuck at home in close quarters with the people that had caused me trauma, and at the same time losing everything that was keeping me together, (seeing my friends, activities, everything I was looking forward to) I broke me down to a whole new level. I was then hospitalized. My parents found out about everything I’d put so much effort in hiding. The hospital wasn’t as scary as people make mental hospitals out to be. To be honest, I didn’t want to go home. But I did, and I am still here. I’m not ‘better’, whatever that’s supposed to be. I’m still depressed, anxious, and extremely dissociated. I’m not going to tell you it gets better or anything like that. But it doesn’t make you weak to ask for help. There are people that care, and if you actually think there aren’t, there will be. Because your life could help people, one day the world may know your name or maybe just a small group of best friends. You are too young, no matter what age you are. So I guess the point I’m getting to ( if you’re even still here) is that life isn’t perfect but that’s never a reason to end yours. A lot of people suck but not everyone. And you don’t have to wait around and pray that your metaphorical “dog” comes around to give you a second chance. Make your own. Friends, family, your pet, or maybe the little cardinal you see out your window frequently. It doesn’t matter what it is because whatever it is, it exists because of YOU. You have a symbol of hope because you are still here. You can dig yourself out. It’s really helpful to have someone there to help but at the end of the day, it’s your decision to heal. I’m proud of you. Keep fighting. Trust me, it’s worth it.

This was beautiful. I used to be severely depressed/suicidal after my mother committed suicide. Find your purpose in life. You will not be happy every day, but having a reason to keep going will help keep you alive (physically and mentally). Also, learn to accept the darkness as part of you. It is the human condition. Being aware of its presence allows you to control It, rather then it controlling you

Hirobhumi Ishak Yeah, my mother suffered from schizophrenia. It was the early nineties when she died. There wasn't much known about mental illness (way less then now, even though we have a long ways to go). Psychotropic drugs back then had really bad side effects, and she stopped taking her meds... I hated her for years. I was filled with resent. My mom died when I was 7. I didn't cry again until I was 27 (when I told my now wife about my mom, and the wounds actually began to heal). I am 33. Now I cry all the time, and I am man enough to admit it. That is what we are supposed to do. We are supposed to feel emotions. Anger, fear, love, hate, happy, sad, all of them. They tell us something, and ignoring them makes us sick. I have since learned about mental illness and suicide. I am studying psychology to become a counsellor
