True. If the Mom’s didn’t love/care abt their babies, then why do ,they carry around the baby’s bodies for a week or so after death? Or why a baby doesn’t want to leave the body of it’s dead Mom? As w/ humans, there are great Mom’s, good Mom’s, so-so Moms, & lousy Moms. Maybe their emotions aren’t as deep as humans (book-When Animals Grieve) but they are there.
@christopherfranklin47606 жыл бұрын
James: They carry the bodies around because they have no concept of life or death. All they know is that their dead infant isn't moving and reacting like it used to. People want to consistently apply human emotional standards to monkeys and other animals whenever they see some activity that, in many cases, is driven by pure instinct. It is obvious why an infant continues to hold on to its dead mother. The mother is the only source of nourishment and comfort the infant knows. It has nothing to do with "love" or some other emotion being ascribed to monkey behavior. These are monkeys, not human beings. Their way of life has not changed in literally millions of years.

Sad & heartbreaking There must be some feeling as @ 6:20 she’s seen scratching her left leg/foot. I’m guessing the injury on her upper left leg also severed a tendon that’s likely not coming back. It will be tougher for her still when Barry & Bolly are forced to leave the troop as she’ll then have no one to help her, especially getting up the hill out of danger. W/Bossy still having babies, she’ll be preoccupied w/them until she won’t be able to have any more. Once Bessy starts having babies, then it’ll be tough for her to carry & nurse her babies as they grows older & larger, & that would only repeat itself over time. Lord, lay your healing hand upon Bessy & heal her injuries. Grant her the strength, courage, wisdom, & perseverance to carry on, adapt, & overcome her disabilities despite her injuries. Grant Bessy the ability to continue to have family members help & encourage her during this trying time.

There was a baby monkey over in Cambodia who I believe had a adult male bite his leg practically off a few minutes this back. His injury was even worse than Bessy's where he would also drag the leg on the ground. In just over a month later I couldn't believe how well it's healed already. So many thought his leg would rot and fall off completely (where the wound was and below). I didn't watch for about three weeks and then randomly saw a new video and was amazed how well his leg is doing. He has a small limp but is faster than ever lol. It's amazing how well they heal and fast they heal! It has to hurt them physically but they don't even appear that they are in pain much of the time. It's amazing..

I know what video ur talking about. The baby monkeys name is Milto or something like that. A vet put sum purple medication on his injury and cleaned it. I was surprised how well he healed too. If u ask me. These animals are getting a taste for blood. They chewed up one leaders balls. Stuff hanging all out of it. And just about ripped the mouth off the face of a baby monkey. It won't get better unless a human steps in and help a little. I hope that these aggressive animals never get angry and attack these humans. If the Rhesus Macaques here, heal anything like the LTM'S in Cambodia, I would think that she has a reasonable chance at a full recovery. Baby's like Milto nearly had his entire leg torn off above the knee, at the beginning of July, and as we speak, it has fully healed and miraculously he's regained minimal use of the limb. Hopefully this little girl will recover in a similar manner.
@jesysgrl6 жыл бұрын
Hopefully by some miracle ( and astonishing I have seen horrific injuries in these monkeys heal so quickly ) it will recover but if not I believe just like with a dog she would do better if it was amputated at the hip. Having to drag it up trees of while running from a predictor is going to be nearly impossible. Like others have said she does seem to have feeling in her foot area. Let’s pray the paralysis is caused by swelling and in time it will improve. I wish someone would do something about the speed limits around these places where they know monkeys live. Subsequent other injuries can be caused at the same time as the major injury. The natural thing to do is to try and get the foot away from the thing that is causing the trauma, ie: thrashing about looking something like a convulsion causing the type of injury displayed on other parts of the monkey. Also the escape reflex would make it run away from the scene thinking that it is running away from the pain which, also, can cause some injuries. Not been around much lately. Is this the Alpha Bossy`s youngest daughter?. Prognosis I feel that she will survive but with some disability bearing in mind that she is the natural next Alpha. Just my Ideas based on what I have seen with cats that have had feet run over that display almost identical injuries.

lbird According to the website, Arroz guesstimates Bossy to be about 16-17 yrs old now so I’m sure she could surely have more babies. They live to be 20-25 in the wild and as long as Arroz has religiously followed, she’s given birth every year. But there was a gap between Bolly and Bossy, Jr so maybe she skipped a year as is normal. He also guessed that Grandee was Bossy, Jo’s Dad and believes Cocky is Dad to Bessy and Bucky. We’ll have to see how she acts to the absence of Cocky but I sure do hope he shows up. I know the chances are slim since he hasn’t been seen since August, but I’m a “glass half full” or cockeyed optimist. LOL.

Its sad, as we know that the monkeys in the park, although the government wants the gone when they raid peoples homes and the people complain, while they are also an attraction and hence why the quiet plant berry bushes and other fruiting plants in the park where they did not really need to be for any ecological reason but the monkey population. Monkeys even away from a group or family for a long period can be successfully reintegrated iof handled correct as you know lineage and where that troops territory is, Yes she probably end up euthanized if there was knowledge of where she came from but an appropriate wildlife vet would be able to treat her with minimal contact so that she does not start to depend on humans and keeps her a monkey, even though she would not like the confinement while healing. Even after 3-6 months you can reintroduce a member that was known to the troop before it was taken for care and they will accept back in most cases unless it was an un want monkey to start with. Its a hard call on something like this whether to leave it to nature to decided or take the monkey and make the decision to thwart nature, Sometimes it comes down to suffering and whether or not it can be fix to any extent and I can understand why HK would make the ruling the if they could not be successfully reintegrated to the troop they came from that death was the other alternative. This would be nature's answer but in much more painful ways. However HK should also be willing to help a bit more with a Wildlife vet on call for things like this.

@ArrozMarisco3606 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanna I'm not very familiar with Wildlife Alliance but in my understanding for most such organizations an injured but non endangered species that could not be released back into the wild will be sterilised or not allowed to breed in captivity. Take a female LTM for example which could breed all year round ( sometimes even twice a year if overfed ) in its reproductive life time of 10 to 15 years it would put a lot of strain on the facilities there to care for its offspring as they themselves are unlikely to be able to survive in the wild and they too would breed in due course. As there are hundreds of these semi-wild LTMs and pig-tailedsin every villages in Cambodia they 'd have some difficult decisions to make on hand and I'd hate to be the one to make such decision where to draw a line.....

It tears my heart to think that she may not be allowed to reproduce in the future. I did however see a female macaque over there on video that had a new baby, I suppose she may have come into the sanctuary in that condition, I'm not really sure. Wildlife Alliance are the people who took in baby Lori and her mother Amari from the temple in Tamao Wat. The last video update that we received on her she was up jumping and playing in the grass and showing signs of a very strong bond growing with her handlers there at the park. She was even up climbing in a tree for the first time since her accident with her mother. So that was very exciting to see, and then I read your footnote and it felt like a kick in the heart. I will have to ask and find out if that's their policy there. And then yet again, maybe I don't even really want to know. Anyway thank you again and bless your heart for the care and love that you show to these sweet babies.🐒💜🐒

Is that why you didn't call the "veterinarian" of the park? Fear they would euthanize her instead of 'wasting' resources?? Wow, that began as a very curable injury...why not report it in it's infancy?
