Another great video. The AK is one of those rifles often times dismissed by the folks as being cheap, inaccurate or generally of poor quality. While there are examples of AK's on the market that are of poor quality, a high quality AK such as those offered by Arsenal, is anything but cheap or of poor quality. They're reliable, beautifully finished, accurate and generally outstanding rifles. Thanks for dispelling some of the myths surrounding this classic rifle.

I've read that the original AKs were designed and meant to be stamped. The Russians couldn't get enough machinery up and running to do the necessary stampings in large enough quantities but could manage the milling process. I was surprised to learn that.

ah, now it's time to relax after work by drinking beer and watching hickok45. I'm from Europe, and living in Japan. I never shot a gun due the different gun laws in whichever country I've lived. But I really like hickok45's way of introducing guns and rifles with historical aspects included. And after the history, always comes the fun part, shooting melons with humour :)

@Wabaanimkii , I agree; there's just something about the sound of "going into battery," regardless of the armament. Some of my favorites are the AK, a pump shotgun, the AR-15, a 1911, a Glock, . . . . well, actually, I can't think of any I don't like. :-)

Hickok, I just replaced the rear sight on my AK with a Krebs peep sight. It made a HUGE difference in the accuracy and speed of sight alignment. It's a relatively cheap and easy to install upgrade. I went out the other day and after shooting a few hundred rounds decided that the standard sight just isn't accurate enough. What an awesome upgrade.

Good shooting Hickok, as always thank you for your great video. I've always known that the AK 47 was a bit more accurate than many would tell you and yet still not as super awesome of a gun as some people say they are, just a lot of fun. Biggest reason why I love your vids is because you let the gun do the talking and this proves both of my theories, I see why AKs can be so popular now.

because it has the AK74 style muzzle brake, like mine does. I bought an AK74 muzzle brake that had the old style threads and drilled it wider. The AK74 style muzzle brake works quite well. I went to the range with the drilled brake and a battery driven drill with some varying width drill blades and shot standard surplus ammo through it adjusting muzzle movement by opening up the holes in the compensator little by little. Worked wonders firing doubles.

@Jaahaah Just so you know, .308 is not slow, nor does the traditional ak-47 fire it. The rifle hickok45 us using here is firing 7.62x39, which is an intermediate cartridge, while the .308 is a full power rifle round that hits about 2700-3000 feet per second, while 7.62x39 is only about 2200 to 2400 fps.

Love the feedback of that gong every time you hit it. :-) Nothing like having that "gong" or "ding" letting you know of a good hit. I have a 100 yard range in my backyard that is screaming for a gong target. And I did pick up an AK just this past weekend, a Polish AK74. I haven't even put any rounds thru it --- still in the process of disassembling it and cleaning it. I can't wait.

The AK-74 (5.45 x 39) has a 'straighter' mag, like the AR does, but due to the shape of the 7.62 x 39 round, the mags are more curved... Great gun Hickock, and now they are all SO expensive.

Seeing this vid just made me realize a comment i just have to blurb about. People say to me when i tell them i own an AK; "That's a bad guy gun, why do you have one of them?" . I just tell them, if roughly half the world is using AK's because their reliable and rugged than it should be telling you there's a reason why they're using it. A good firearm no matter what it is i think should be praised for what it is in my book. Thanks for listening out there; feels good to get that off my chest. :)

It's an AK-47, it just has a muzzle break like an AK-74. It clicks after the shot because he's letting the trigger reset. I wanted to let you know, I ordered an Arsenal SGL21-71 thanks in part to this review, I don't care for the stock sights too much, and that was part of the reason I was avoiding it. But, That krebs custom sight, well... You know how it goes. Followed me home... from Russia. Thanks for the videos, great representative of firearms.

You never see Hickok45 using any kind of rest. He always shoots standing without any bench rest. Most everybody you see shooting on these KZbin videos is resting their rifle on something to help steady the gun. That's why Hickok45 is such a good shot, he PRACTICES in real world positions and he practices over a wide variety of ranges on interactive targets of varying sizes. How else will you learn trigger pull timing in relation to target acquisition?

@Sigp229TRT 7.62x39mm is a pretty high calibre round, essentially a shorter .308. It's no .44 mag or .50 AE/BMG, but it's no peashooter.
@109268
@109268 14 жыл бұрын
@Jaahaah Ah I see your confusion. The diameter of the bullet in the 7.62x39mm round is .308 inches across, which is what caliber actually refers to. The bullet itself however is much smaller and lighter than the american cartridge referred to as a .308, which has dimensions of 7.62x51mm the bullet fired from the .308 weighs from 150 to 180 grains, while the 7.62x39 only weighs between 123-154 grains.

You know , I'm somehow off with the modernised look of the AK-47. The adjustable stock , polymer magazines , polymer upper and lower handle. AK looks lovely and stylish with wooden parts and you can still get the AKMS or AKSU if you're out looking for a shorter versions. Hehe watching Hickoc's videos with the '47 it reminds me of my service ( got a few vids on here ) , trained with the '47 in boot camp and later with our wz.96 which is a modernised and chambered NATO round ver. of '47 Love them

Nice shooting hickok! Alot of people dont understand how hard it is to shoot from standing position. You see alot of videos where people are shooting over 1000 yard target and pragging with it. Only that they are always shooting from bench and the shooters job is only to line up the sights and pull the trigger. The shot that is made is only depending from the firearm not the shooter at all. Anyone could do that. Especially with pistols you are really talented shooter.

I just picked up an Arsenal SGL21-61 from a gun show this weekend for $800. Its the newest version of the rifle that he is using in this video(SGL20). 2 hours for a background check, because the State Police computers were down during the time (just my luck). Check your state laws to make sure you can have one. P.S. Arsenal USA no longer imports the SGL series but they have a sister company called FIME Group that still sells the same exact rifle. Arsenal speaks very highly about FIME Group

It's easy to tell the difference between an ak-47 and ak-74 just by looking at the magazine. hickok's rifle is an ak-47, you can tell by the pronounced curvature of the mag which is holding 30 cal 7.62x39 rounds as compared to the much straighter ak-74 mag which hold the smaller 5.45x39. hope this helps you out a bit.

my buddy has the PSL and it is a fun plinker but it is only fitting for a designated marksman role with little sustained fire. the Molot VEPR 54mmR is a hardcore rifle from what I see, better in every aspect. a molot representative says It can handle heavy 200gr bullets unlike the PSL and any load in between which I trust: it's built thicker than the PSL, which is basically an AKM in 54mmR while the VEPR is like an RPK in 54mmR. and you're welcome, cheers brother.

@BashYourHeadInCrazy Yeah, depending on where you live. All you have to do is go to the gun shop, pick out a weapon, do the paper work, pass the background check, Pay, and then go shooting in a safe area. It may take you like 30 minutes at the most to purchase a weapon. An Assault rife, in my opinion, does NOT have to to select fire. Semi-Auto is just fine

@s3thknuckl3s This isn't a 5.45x39mm rifle. This is the 7.62x39mm AK-103. The 103 is a very recent model of the AK series which takes the plastic furniture of the AK-74M and basically sticks it on an AKM. But here, he's got the AR-15 collapsible stock on.

The Mosin Nagant is the most popular chambered in 7.62x54r, but don't forget about the PSL, or otherwise known as the "Big" AK. It's cheap too at about $800. I agree, pretty much anything chambered in .308 is a bit too much for just self defense, that is unless you like to protect yourself from 300 yards away, or 1000 yds with the 54r.
