I get his Theo‘s point about Messi not being that entertaining. Waching Messi it always did feel like you were watching the best, however it also felt machine like. He would almost always make the right decision, and he would always make the same moves but he was so good that it was still impossible to defend. However, this machine like ability also prevented him from having some character and flair in his game. The likes of Neymar, Ronaldinho, Maradona, Zidane, Early CR7, etc… all had this flair/individuality, they were far more innovative in their game. Naturally, as a consequence they would make far more mistakes and wrong decisions in their game but it was still extremely entertaining to watch. I believe their footballing teams reflect this as well. Pep is arguably the greatest coach of all time and his Barca side is probably the greatest club side of all time, but they were never the most entertaining to watch. They once again were like a well-drilled machine but it came at the costs of the players’ individuality and freedoms being sacrificed.
