Art Journal Flip Through - 48 Weeks Class

Recording a flip through of my 48 Weeks Class journal has been on my to-do list since I began my KZbin channel! I started this class in 2014, a few months after Donna Downey first opened it up. It took me three years to finish in 2017, because I began a few months late and life events happened in there. And now, three more years later, and I'm finally sharing it with you. What a fun afternoon for me to stop, take time, pay homage, and remember these pages.
I kept putting off recording the flip through because I thought it just wouldn't do this journal and class justice! The journal ended up weighing over 17 pounds for all the amazing layers of creativity on each page. Each page was an exercise in something be it creative or a life lesson healing moment. Art as therapy.
The pages are a mix of following the lesson almost exact with a few of my own changes, or following the lesson and doing something a bit different. I learned about layers, supplies, and myself in this process. I encourage you to sign up for a class, any class, and learn! Or, go back a re-take a class or take one you've purchased and not completed.
I'm still not sure my flip through did this huge journal justice, but I hope that it inspires you to
escape the world, the news, the events....for a little bit and create!

Thanks so much!! I wrote a big response to you right away and KZbin ate it - or something weird happened! Lesson learned to copy my responses when they are so long! Sorry it's taken me a bit to write one again. I used gaffer tape - you can get it from many places, but I ended up just getting it off amazon. If you take the 48 weeks class, there is a specific video on how to rebind this journal, as we put it through A LOT with all the heavy, crazy layers! Mine was pretty bad, so I had to improvise a little. Basically, you split the spine if it hasn't already broken and then reattach the cover or back as needed to the inside page and create a new spine. There are probably videos out there that have different methods. As soon as I need to rebind one, I'll make a video. I'm surprised at how well it has held up with that heavy journal! Let me know if that is at all helpful or if I can explain anything better. :)

I loved your method because it seems more respectful to the journal than others. The gaffer tape is a great idea! Did you remove the covers completely or just cut the spine and adhere the tape?

​@@Jess-vq4oy you are more than welcome! my journal was pretty destroyed... so I had to do some extra surgery on it, but in a perfect world.... one cover would most likely come off completely and reattach that to the inside page. this gives the spine breathing room to create the new one. You can actually cut the spine early if you need to to help with the pressure - that's what I should have done, but we hadn't gotten to the rebinding lesson yet! hehe... if you want to email me, I can send you a few detailed pictures. I'm not sure if they would help at all?! if you go to my "about" tab there's an email button thing. :)
