Thank you very much for this wonderful overview! I live in Germany where most of the people use lunging techniques to teach their horses boredom and/or leaving them together with forcing them "down" with mutiple ties ... Some of them I try telling the opportunities of circling. But after watching your overview I must admit that I missed some of the steps myself! I'm looking forward enjoying the whole series of the "art of the circle"! (What a beautiful title! 😊) Again: Thank you so much! ❤

Having "driven"- horses away from me for so many years, it is mindblowing to consider maybe it is often more important to "draw" horses in to us instead. Teaching horses to stay off of us initially seemed to conflict with this. As I learn the finer technique you show in this series, I'm beginning to understand we can draw horses in to us and still have them respect our territory. And it's a lot easier to catch, ride, brush, rub etc. etc. our horses when their heads are close to us vs being away from us. After you taught this to "my" horse at a clinic I've been contemplating if this horse's head is too stuck in this concept. Luckily this series helps me understand how to utilize this powerful system and not undo the foundation you instilled in this horse in about 10 minutes. These circle videos really help break down the parts of what you did so that I can help this horse and other horses become connected by more than just a rope. Similar to what the Dorrance brothers said... this kind of technique helps a person become the kind of person a horse would want to be around. Thanks for doing this.

Hello! Thanks for the videos. I’m really enjoying your channel. I noticed the comment about gaited horses. Should I not use your groundwork methods with Tennessee Walkers? Trying to put some training “back on” several pasture horses (ridden previously only a few times a year). My daughter has a younger horse and his training has definitely slipped off with lack of being worked with and ridden. All were trained as field trial horses and I just want to make sure after that gaited comment that I’m not on the wrong path! Thank you!!

Nope I’m just being cheeky. We have worked with lots of gaited horses you just have to understand the difference in how their bodies naturally want to move. More lateral work really helps them connect the front and back ends and relax. Many gaited horses get trained to be very tense and to get them to gait which can take time to undo but we have enjoyed plenty of gaited horses once getting them going nicely.

Thanks for the reply! Makes perfect sense. We aren’t planning on being in any parades😂 so nice and relaxed is the goal (with that nice, natural smoothness!) Thanks so much and I look forward to diving in deeper.

Sir, if i understand correctly, this is fine for gaited horses? I wonder if you will be putting gaited training on your Patron page. I have been watching Ryan for a couple of years now and just recently found you. I also don't see you running horses around the round pen. Do you ever find yourself in situations that you need to do that?

No if a horse is running around a round pen I’m doing something to get them to connect and come to me. Not running them. I don’t have any gaited horse specific videos on Patreon but plenty of things you can do with a gaited horse. Especially our Handy Horse Handy Human series.
