I bought the “ultimate glow” for black hands and white telltale wheel of a 1930s art deco wall clock I’m restoring, and it shows up well on both when energized with enough light. I did apply four or five _heavy_ coats to each, and it’s taken a long time for the paint to fully cure, but with that amount of coverage, the black enamel on the hands doesn’t prevent the glow. Looks just like the radium paint glow from that era. I tested putting a layer of clear coat acrylic over top of the paint to protect it, and it does not negatively affect the glow paint’s performance

Ok first of all, you restored a 1930s art deco clock?! That sounds amazing!! Secondly, I love the idea of adding the Ultimate Glow to it and it sounds stunning! I am so glad that it worked out well for you. Its good to know that the clear coat didn't negatively affect it, that was one of my concerns. Thank you very much for sharing your experience and knowlege. ❤️

@@magicallymjcurrently working on a 1930s art deco electric desk/mantel clock from Sweden which has white hands, and I will be putting the ultimate glow on the tips of them. 90 year old 220v clock that runs like new. Brown bakelite case is dull, will be clear coating it with Aleene’s pearlescent. Tested it on a spare, similar piece of bakelite, and it produces a shimmery sheen that isn’t tacky or cheesy looking. Update: The pearlescent product itself is great, but it gums up the spray can, even when you clean out the tip, and you’re never able to finish it. So an A for the product quality and an F for the packaging and usability

The black canvas does not work as well because the light from the glow paint that goes downwards is absorbed by the black paint. Not reflected back up like the white canvas does.
@magicallymj3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I suppose when you put it that way it makes perfect sense. But the bottles do not specifically mention that it must be on a white base, and thats why showing both results was important. Now we know for sure 😃

I have a off the wall question how do you think this glow paint would work on a guitar neck to brighten up the dots on the edge of the neck. and how long does the glow last?
@magicallymj2 жыл бұрын
I think that the DecoArt Ultimate would work nicely. But the glow will glow no long than an hour - if you're looking for something that lasts longer I would recommend LIT by Culture Hustle. It's extremely bright and can last anywhere from 2-4 hours (based on an experiment I did recently)

These ones are just the regular glow shades. I did a review just before this one where I did the DecoArt Glow Paints and those come in 5 colors - Purple, Blue, Orange, Green and Aqua And I have a review in production for the folkart glow in the dark colors, they have standard rainbow shades 🌈💖

I've never worked with glow paints so this may sound like a stupid question, but are these paints always to be used as-is, or can different colors be mixed with them, or do they come in different colors?
@magicallymj3 жыл бұрын
Not stupid at all! These can definitely be mixed together. But lighter colors are supposed to work best. I'm actually in the planning stages for a review where I mix them together, it should be out this month. And there are a few brands that have actual colored paint that glows too. I did a review recently for the DecoArt Glow Paints, those come on 5 colors and I think they're beautiful. I also just got my hands on the Folkart Glow In The Dark Paints, those come in 7 colors and I will have a review out soon for those too. 😊 Feel free to ask me anything you wish and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks very much for watching 💖💖

Does the glow in the dark wear off ?
@magicallymj3 жыл бұрын
Well eventually the glow stops glowing depending on how much light was shinning on it.. you can see in my video where the craft smart one faded while filming but the ultimate lasted a few hours after filming. But I've got tons of lights in my shop since I'm in a basement I need all the help I can get, so my effects might last longer than if you were just using sunlight. Thank you for watching and if you've got any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
@hb10723 жыл бұрын
@@magicallymj so the painting should be kept in a dark space or atleast covered in order for the glow to not dye down right ? Also have you ever mixed the glow paint with regular acrylic or is it better to buy colored glow paint ? And if so do you have any good recommendations for colored paint that glows in the dark.
@magicallymj3 жыл бұрын
@@hb1072 it will need light to charge up but once it is in the dark it should glow for quite awhile, but im not sure that keeping it in a darker place would make the glow last longer. I have not tried mixing alot of glow paint with other acrylic colors, but I did try it once for an acrylic pour. I think I had the craft smart on hand so I mixed that into green Artists loft. I definitely did not see an added glow so I never tried that again. But, I have done a review of the DecoArt Glow paints. They come in 5 colors and the glow is pretty awesome. I have a mini canvas on my desk that I painted the glow colors on and every time I turn my light off it glows. I definitely recommend trying them. @@magicallymj thanks you so much!!! Will definitely watch it !!! Last question 😅 but do you think the paint will glow the same (have the same affect) like it does on the canvas if I used glass instead ? I want to use the paint for a glass art project.
@magicallymj3 жыл бұрын
@@hb1072 I love the questions! I just read the bottles and none of them specifically mention glass but they do say that it should work on a wide variety of surfaces and "more" so I believe it should work on glass. If you want, I could do a video of a trial run so you can see how it would turn out?
