This is 100% my experience alone, do not use me as an example to talk others out of doing art professionally. I'm a tattoo artist, and have never been good at social media, to my detriment. I've been struggling so hard financially, and my creativity has been at an all-time low since starting. I have decided to take a hiatus and suddenly I am having fun doing art again- not for money, no pressure for it to be perfect, just pure make whatever the hell I want without worrying if people will want it as a tattoo or not. And I'm extending that to my art socials also, I will now be refusing to use hashtags, refusing to play any stupid algorithm games, just posting what I want, how I want, when I want, and whoever sees it will see it. It feels so free, I feel like it was a mistake for me to ever try making money with art, it just completely ruined it for me. Slowly falling back into love with art now.

Are people looking for art anymore though? Kind of seems like social media is past the artist adoption phase because people prefer video entertainment in those spaces and so visual art isn't doing well overall. Not to mention AI is like an annoying sibling that makes us accidentally ignore the other child like with Pinterest. Since it's already an uphill battle I don't imagine we could convince enough artists to dedicate themselves to the spaces to make any one of them a home. Seems like the art and social media thing is straight up over. It's probably just a waiting game now for the next wave of innovation to open a space we can all be free in again. I hope at least. Good vid tho! Definitely an interesting topic.

I don't think the social aspect of the internet was doomed to fail from the beginning, because social media didn't exist in the beginning. the internet did just fine for a good ten years before myspace came along. people shared, created, things were good. if all social media collapsed and burned, i think the internet would be a better place. we could go back to each having our own websites. social media sites that centralize all that are kinda like walmart, in the way that it makes it impossible to have a small mom and pop store. the only reason you can't make your own custom bespoke page where you and your artist friends share their work is because everyone will ignore it and still flock to these horrible platforms.

Rednote honestly is much worse from a national security perspective, because it actually IS owned by the CCP. It's actually funny to watch tiktok get banned and all of America jumping to the little red book. It's like pouring gasoline over a small fire and expecting it to go out. Nevertheless, artists need an platform where they can share human made art. AI is great at reaching the peaks of our imagination, because it is based on previous artworks done by humans, but it can only go as far as the data it's based on. Hopefully, humanity starts to realise the benifits on humanity being human. :) Robots are fun, but they exist only because we do, and so, I pray we all come together at once and stop this unneeded madness that's happening right now everywhere. Have a great day and stay hopeful about the future!

I heard you can skirt TikTok's ban by using a VPN to create a new account claiming to be from another country. The art community could come together a make a fund-supported art Booru. There are tons already, but they seem to mostly be hentai. Maybe add some anti-scraping & AI poisoning to it. Old forums are another option. The problem is finding an active one & getting everyone to go there.

i wish i could use bluesky more but i do alot of like animation stuff and the size limit on files tends to make it super diffcult to work with , though its totally understandable with the history and present state of the site

I've been enjoying Bluesky, wanted to move, when I heard Meta's policy updates. I feel like Discord would be the only other option, for art community. I've even gotten a couple of commissions directly from Discord, and I can connect with other creatives in my niche in the visual novel scene. I also enjoy Reddit's smaller communities, because it reminds me of old forums. And I will admit Facebook groups was nice, I loved talking to people with similar interests. It reminded me of my days in university talking to people in my fandoms late at night over in Facebook groups. Hosting my own blog was fun, but it's such a lonely platform, you don't really get engagement like on social media sites. I feel now the pivot to communities might now be focused on niches on websites that cater to one group. And there's also still Forums that are active to this day, like for indie perfume.

we need more protocols and less plataforms, making money from social media goes against its functions, like paying to use public transit
