heres the steps bc i was looking for this when i couldnt rewatch it XD 1- Create a file 2- Save 5-10 images of your favorite artists (1 each artist) 3- Add one of your own peices to this file (preferrably your favorite) 4- Pick your top 3 style features in each piece 5- Do the same for your piece 6- Specify recurring features (until you have no more identical features) - draw characthers with these things MULTIPLE times

I think drawfee put it really well in their “redrawing childhood art” video- they talk about how an art style isn’t something you find, it’s always been a part of you. it’s based on how you default to drawing things and what you like looking at in your art, so as you add new things to that mental library of things you like and techniques you use, that’s how your style evolves, but it’s less of you consciously choosing a specific style and more getting closer to the style that’s been inside you all along. here’s the link for anyone who hasn’t seen it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/moitm3mvqLGGe5o

I used to draw stylised/manga inspired art all the time when I was younger, but for the past 10 years or so I've been doing almost exclusively realistic art. Also, when trying to figure out your art style, it is very likely that the art style you really really want your art to look like will not end up being the one you will like for yourself once you get to that level of art. While it's good to take inspiration from others, you may find that you only really like one part of their art style (how they do certain things such as line art, shading, anatomy, expressions, etc.) and that will be reflected in your art. Your style will also change constantly during this time as you try and figure out how other people draw, but naturally, over time (whether you draw every day or draw once every other month) you will discover the things you like and things you don't like. For me, it took over 4 years of trying to find an art style, 2 years of trying to force it to change, and then settling with what I really liked to fully realize that even though I really like other people's art styles (such as Nadiaxel, Laovaan, Ross Draws, Jazza, Horikoshi, etc.) I will never like their art style as my own because my actual style differs from what I enjoy looking at. *Inspiration isn't just a benchmark for an art style, it is the motivation to get to that level of skill.*

Since I was about 8 years old I’ve been drawing, from having a coloring book as a reference to now , In school I absolutely loved my art and I was away from social media, and I kept at it, as I was bullied more and more the harder I was towards myself. I’m now in 10 months going to be 20 years old and I’m more accepting of my art, realizing I’ll never really be able to be like everybody else right away, and this helped me a lot and I’m a lot happier and more accepting ^^ appreciate you taking the time in helping out, it’s hard when you see someone else doing so well and your stuck in a rut of hating on it, but I looked back in how I used to draw and I seen the massive difference, but Practicing and keeping at , not giving up is the only way really to improve.

I think the hardest thing about art, and why I always seem to cry in frustration when trying to self help with art tip videos, is just that I never learned how to STUDY art. It was always something I could just DO so when my skill level plateaud I never learned or was taught what to do in that situation. Going to other artist's works to "copy" or "emulate" always seems taboo. And trying to find exact model references is a painful and distracting process for me personally. This is the first video where I've made it past the intro and the exercise actually seems doable and might actually teach me how to study something and pick back up what I'm constantly throwing away because of frustration and low self esteem. Comparing my artwork to more experienced artists tends to get me down because for obvious reasons (experience) their work is closer to what I want to be able to create myself. Being older than many of those artists I enjoy doesn't really help either, when it makes me feel like I will never reach their 'level' - whatever that is, thank you my brain. That's so interesting, i could not decide at all on 10 drawings , so on my first try i had about 35 drawings in there, often more than from a single artist because different drawings showed better a particular thing i liked about that artists style. I thought i will be overwhelmed, but i noticed, that the things that i started to write about those drawings, were always the same thing, from about 20 artists all the things were overlapping. So i guess i had a favorite style in mind i didn't knew about, haha Even from my own drawings i was liking the same things i liked from other artists. That's was a really exciting revelation to me and such an interesting exercise, now i think i have a much clearer idea what i want to focus on with my next drawings.

So I used to draw manga, but I noticed it was not my style, so I looked at inspirations which made me create an artstyle with lineless and make it realistic. I will still say everyone can have a different art style, even if it realistic. Anyone could create an art style of an artist within fandoms, but your own art style is still your potential.

I think one of the best ways it to try dtiys cause then when youre done with it you can see the differences and know that you have an art style!

to be honest - it’s the most useful art video i’ve ever watched (and i rewatched it i don’t know how many times) it helped me A LOT with developing my art style and not being overwhelmed by too many inspirations! your method is so simple yet so effective I don’t know if you’ll see this comment, but thank you so much! ♥️

Ok, I flipped when I saw you're DOING MY DTIYS!! Yay👏🏻 I can't wait to see it done, but it looks so good already and I like that you showed even part of her lower body! Always enjoying your videos btw 💕

Recently I made my own chibi art style, I find out what I liked/looked best I did some trials on the size of certain parts of the character, first I decided on the eyes, big or really big? Lol. Nose or no nose? Thin limbs or thick limbs? And so on and so forth until I had a style that I loved. You can make many things vary, perhaps give it a try yourself and see what you make? Just keep trying different options and the answer should come to you ^-^ good luck

I actually did find my art style last year during quarantine and I'm very happy with it! The other style I'm trying to get back into is chibi and I'm struggling a little. Oh how life just loves me. 😂😭

Thank you so much for this video, it's extremely helpful! I've been feeling kinda burned out after finishing a huge comic project, so now I wanna try something new with my work. I've already been experimenting with sharing, but I wanna go further. I'm definitely gonna try the folder exercise and see where it takes me.
