I know this video is from months ago, but I just wanted to admit that I've done the same thing. Especially when I was new to art exploration, I'd get so excited watching a video, open a new tab to order supplies, then even by the time they arrived, I couldn't remember what exactly I had been so excited to do with them ;-) Over time, I've learned a little bit of restraint. Not that you can tell looking at my supplies...

Oh Christine, I think we are all the same in that regard, right? Buying all the new art supplies! It's so fun but then comes the reality of using and incorporating them into the actual act of making art. Thanks for watching!

Just a thought. I never throw away or get rid of my materials. I have done in the past and guarantee as soon as I do a month will pass and then I want to use what I got rid of and then it was twice the price. Now I keep it all. About 20yrs ago I bought some weird tiny bead ball things that I possibly thought I would use on cards ! Well I never did. A few years ago I started crocheting the most beautiful intricate blankets which I sell when I am not painting. I found the hooks too small and irrirating so I bought some Fimo polymor clay to make handles and rolled them in those tiny beads. I have since made for friends. Nope one day... one day... I find a use. These pastels are stunning and can be used in so many ways. The colours are gorgeous, especially the earthy ones. Come on Pam give them a shot.

I totally hear you on that Caryl and I have drawers filled with art supplies and various materials to prove it. Here's my situation I love soft pastels but I prefer them in the stick form. They are much messier to use but I like the freedom of the soft pastel sticks vs the applicator tools of the Pan Pastels. Just a personal preference and something that has taken me years to figure out.

@@pamhemmerling I get that. Ive also noticed you are very active and enthusiastic with your art which I think sticks are definitely better. The pans would make one pull back and thats not who you are. I love your work.

@@carylpark7192 Oh, thanks so much for saying that Caryl! Yes, I agree I'm not overly precious or precise with my art and I guess that's why certain materials don't work for me. It's also why I could not make realism-type art.

Been there, done that. Bought way too much--it's too easy and tempting to shop these days. But now that I'm retired with less income, I'm glad I stocked up. Funny thing is, I mostly like the supplies I make, like black walnut ink and rust dye. You've inspired me to go through and swatch everything and give what I don't care for to someone who might like it.

Your black ink and rust dye sound amazing--I bet the color is beautiful. Have you been making them for a while? And I agree it is good to stock up on the art supplies you use--especially if you find a good sale or discount.

Thank you so much for watching Olivia! I will try and figure out what I or you need to do in order to have the video translated to Spanish.
@pamhemmerling Жыл бұрын
Hi Olivia, in order to translate into Spanish first click on the CC Button at the bottom of the screen. Next, click the Gear Button which is right next to it and has the red HD. Click Subtitles/CC. Click Auto Translate. Then scroll down and choose Spanish. Hope that helps.

You do not have to RUB so hard to get the color on the applicator - that’s the reason you are breaking up the pastel….what will you do with your PanPastel stash? Please let me know if you would like to sell them!
@pamhemmerling Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip on being gentle in the application of the Pan Pastels--that makes a lot of sense. I suppose that is my problem--I tend to be hard on my art supplies and I don't always use them in the way they are intended. I'll keep you posted if I sell them. Thanks for watching!

@@pamhemmerling Loving all your videos - I use PanPastel layering them in encaustic painting (they give a very luminous & depth of color between the layers)❤️
@pamhemmerling Жыл бұрын
@@charalson3023 I love that idea of using them with encaustic--I bet it is beautiful given the rich pigment of the PanPastel and the softness of the encaustic medium.
@charalson3023 Жыл бұрын
@@pamhemmerling Yes! You just have to lightly fuse them then add next layer of encaustic medium or just a light fusing for the final top layer🙂

I dare say a lot of us are guilty of buying supplies we saw on a video, only to find out it was not "our thing".....at least I have! As we speak I am destashing some things and giving them to a young friend of mine who just got her first teaching job.
