You misinterpret the old testament. Idol worship is worshipping the physical item. Whereas using icons, crucifixes, crosses etc. is usually done in to have a focus point. If you actually read the Exodus book, right after Moses received the ten commandments he was ordered to build a vessel to contain the stone tablets AND DECORATE IT WITH GOLDEN SERAPHIM. So ...that's that...Sadly many Christians like Reformed ones still haven't put crosses back into their churches.
