Love adding texture to the painting before starting!! I have been doing this with molding paste, as well as gesso. I am always looking for (mostly circles) things to press into, paint on and print!! This is another great video, Nicholas!! Thank you!!

Love this video! I've done modeling paste and gesso. One time I used thick-bristled brushes with gel medium, and the effect was very much interesting -- it not only added "signature brushstrokes" to my artwork, it also provided a good foothold for other materials or medium like pastel or charcoal when I went crazy over the layer later on.

I've been chasing textures and this is something I haven't tried yet. It's so obvious, but I completely missed playing with the gesso layer other than tinting it. Thanks for the great video!

This is awesome. I love texture and have done some of this but, now I have more ideas as to how to expand my tool kit for mark making in the gesso, and how to achieve an interesting painting. with a lot of experimenting going forward. Thank you, Nicholas. I really needed to see this today!

Great idea, using gesso for texture! I have used molding paste, which creates a thicker layer (on wood or rigid substrate), so the texture is more obvious, but this method works even on paper! Thanks.

Hi Nicholas Would you make a video on how you name your abstract paintings. I find giving my work titles very hard as I am an intuitive artist and the work doesn’t have any meaning to me and I don’t work from a reference
