A hint about starting on inside corners. At 3:25 he mention cutting off the tabs to begin a corner. This will leave an unmatched pattern in the corner. If you cut a tile sheet in the middle or so and put each piece together at the corner the pattern matches and looks more finished. I made this mistake in my 1st corner before recognizing this. Good thing I started out in a relatively hidden corner.

I tried this and the issue I had is you didn’t have the overlap section on one side. Granted the open patterns will match up like a puzzle but it’s not the same since you don’t have that overlap space and it’s a bit of a pain to line up

@@alnsmclm I am thinking to simply score the first (corner) sheet and tamp into corner but then the sheets on "side wall" would be reverse installed, right? Does it matter?

I used to do wallpapering. Just like that, you cut the right edge at a corner to make a straight edge to butt up against the corner. You can then cut the left edge of the piece adjacent to that and butt it right against. It may seem counter-intuitive to not have the patter match, but the eye doesn't seem to care about the match at a corner. I have done many, many rooms this way, and no one ever asks to have it redone. It may be an optical illusion, but maybe not. However, the eye doesn't look for a match, perhaps because the corner is a natural split in the view. You may do it either way, good luck no matter what. :)

First of all, I very much appreciate that you, as independent individuals, took the time to video record and post the installation of your tile to KZbin. I've watched the video seven times now and have found that it has left far more questions than answers for me. This isn't a bad thing because their questions that would certainly come up during the course of my upcoming installation so it's best that I address them now. There are a ton of questions that just aren't addressed in the video that I think are absolutely necessary in order to do a nice looking installation. Especially when the installation is going to be on more than just one wall space. I'll refer to the left wall as wall A; the right wall as wall B; and the middle wall as wall C. 1) Why were walls A and B installed prior to wall C? I cannot figure out how one can anticipate a smooth flow when the center wall is done after the side walls. Additionally, the manufacturer expressly says to work from right to left but in this video the only wall that that is being done on is wall A. 2) There are no close-ups of the inside corners but from the distance it appears that the corners are rather chopped off and non-flowing. It seems to me that, rather than lop off the tabs on the edge of each corner tile sheet, that they instead be placed on the adjacent wall thus allowing a flowing and continuous alignment of "bricks". The inside corners, to me, look like they are chopped (bricks abruptly end and suddenly change shape and color) and a rather large "caulk type line" is in each corner. What would not work about putting those tabs on the adjacent wall instead so that a flow is maintained? • Wall B, in the video, appears to have several tiles peeled back up and replaced. The video is in fast motion so very hard to follow what the second guy is doing. • Wall C didn't seem to have a plan to it because it was done last. I can't seem to follow the reasoning or logic for doing that wall last as it would be impossible to make the corners flow smoothly. Again, the inside corner bricks would abruptly change size and color at each corner. • This video features the peel and stick sheets being installed over existing, grouted tile which, of course are not a level surface. Wouldn't it be wise to go over that existing tile first with some sort of a leveling grout (off top of my head but there must be some kind of preparatory "compound" to level surface) so that there would not be areas for moisture or air to accumulate? Something tells me that if one is going to be putting a vinyl product over any surface that the surface should be level. Moisture and air have a sneaky way of creeping into the tiniest of crevices. • On subject of putting peel and stick over existing tiles, it seems counterintuitive to expect something to stick to such a very slick and smooth surface such as the original tile presented here. Is it really ok not to rough up the surface? Even when reglazing cabinets I had to rough up the existing polyurethane because the new stuff needs to GRIP INTO the old surface, not sit on top of it. I would speculate adhesive would follow the same laws of property. • Out of absolutely nowhere the tile sheets appeared on wall C including the tile sheets behind the stove. How was the determination made on how far down behind the stove to go to? Should the tiles go fully down to the bottom by the floor in order to alleviate the possibility of air or moisture getting in or were they simply installed for aesthetic means without regard to longevity? Was the stove pulled out to install the tile sheets or were they just kind of pushed behind the top of the stove? • I either missed or don't see the part about how to get the tile sheet up behind the fan or, as many of us are stuck with these days, the over the range microwaves that tend to break and have to be replaced all too often in which case, if not tiled behind one will have a gaping nothingness if new appliance is not same size as old. • I missed the part about measuring the outlets and cutting to accommodate them. I've not yet started mine but I have a good idea. What about using the plastic to create a template? One can use a marker to make an X and, since it's transparent, one can easily see if they've cut enough or too little. • Even though I watched the video seven times, I missed how the second row of tiles was chosen and cut. This question came up after I got done watching the video, and I'm glad it did, because I'm going to have to do two to three rows myself and they are not all going to be 12 in tall so I miss the part about how to choose the proper cut within a tile sheet to enable a good flow from the first row to the second row to the third row. I appreciate this video very much, especially since you don't represent the manufacturer, but I have doubts that it would be a good idea to put these tiles over existing, grouted tiles without any type of leveling medium. I'm also very concerned about having cut those tabs off the end tiles because there's just no fluidity from one wall to the next. It looks like it just abruptly ends. These are things that would certainly come up when one is right smack in the middle of installation so I'm glad that I watched this video so that they're coming up now before I'm standing in the kitchen in a bind trying to figure out what's my next move. I hope to hear back some comments before I get the tile started in my kitchen. Thank you!

Thank you. I learned the hard way but if your tile has uneven height of individual stones that you need to line up start from the right and work your way left. This way the white underlay will always line up with next tile facing left. Your tile was equal so you could turn either way. Mine I needed to align the tiles one way only. I’m glad I learned this on a small pantry backsplash before I started the big kitchen job. Thanks again though for showing us.

To make a flat wall so it sticks better, I watched another video that shows filling the grout with quick dry poly filler so it makes a flat wall. This is the video that shows how she did it. That would make the wall flat and that tile would stick well and possibly help prevent any problems with the tiles sticking anywhere. Love the look here! Great job!

That’s so excellent! I’m so happy you did this for and by yourself! I’m adding this piece of advice for anyone watching this in the future, before you install these, fill in those grout lines with some spackling paste so you have a smoother surface for these to stick to. This is an essential tip for a homeowner. It creates less bumps and ridges during and after application. If you’re just adding these for a rental unit, there’s no real reason to spackle/smooth the area. You’ll likely have to remove and replace these after 2-3 tenants. The cost to purchase and install these is nominal compared to the increase in value a rental unit with these added (aesthetics and appearance go a long way with income property).

@@fancythisgirl3 Yep. I'm dumbfounded at how much is left out of this video. That seems like absolute common sense to me and I can't figure out, to save my life, why any surface would not be leveled prior to placing something as thin as these tiles on top of it or anything on top of it, for that matter. Since these people that made the video don't work for the manufacturer (I don't think 🤔) I didn't want to say too much about it but as the hours tick on after I've watched it I'm concerned that people will watch it and just start slapping these peel and stick tiles up and the way that it's done in the video there's no way on earth that they are going to stay put.

I wouldn't paint those. Maybe sand them down and stain them a deep redish stain would be sweet. And change the knobs to a stainless type so it looks better with the fridge.
@fancythisgirl3
@fancythisgirl3 3 жыл бұрын
Sanding is essential if you’re going to paint the wood. Paint won’t last long without it. And if you’re already sanding, you might as well stain instead. It preserves the wood and looks way better. I’d suggest, if possible, to remove the trim on the cabinet doors and adding squared trim to make them shaker style. Another top for anyone watching this in the future, before you install these peel & stick squares is to fill in those grout lines with some spackling paste so you have a smoother surface for these to stick to. This is an essential tip for a homeowner. It creates less bumps and ridges during and after application. If you’re just adding these for a rental unit, there’s no real reason to spackle/smooth the area. You’ll likely have to remove and replace these after 3-4 tenants. I suggest turning the pieces and mixing them. If not then it results in a repeat pattern as observed on right area creating a line. Does anyone else see this? I also see the line on the left yet closer to the counter. To avoid a repeating pattern make sure the sheets are intermixed. This is similar to hanging wallpaper where depending on the pattern, each sheet should be reversed. Play with it before mounting as I could not live with this outcome

cool, id like to put some over wallpaper, im keeping the paper, just want a boarder. Hello L Watson, You should sand down the texture, it's supposed to install on flat surface

That came out great and looks awesome. Love it in my kitchen but someone :sigh: slapped heavy ceiling texture all over it, and the entire bathroom. So anytime you get close you get your arms/hands scrapped up. Anyways, thanks for sharing.

I really wanted to see one with an arabesque pattern which is a lot harder to fit together than this one.

How washable are those peel and stick tiles? Do they hold up well to grease? Thanks

Goldie Lara, Great question, Thank you for posting it. I would've been too overjoyed with updating my outdated backsplash that I wouldn't thought about cleaning durability until after I attempted cleaning...and....disaster. 😃

Determine your square footage you need. They come in a box of X amount of square footage. Usually 10 or so. If you have 30 square feet get 4 boxes just in case you will need more.

Hello, unfortunately the adhesive on the back of the product need a flat and clean wall to keep the tile on the wall. We recommend you to sand off the texture and clean the wall if you would like to apply our product.

Just wondering if this can be done on the tiled walls of a shower? Would water leak in? Any thoughts from you guys? The guy in the video hasn't responded to anyone's comments so maybe he's no longer interested or whatever. But good video anyways!

Hello Kat Willams, It's not recommended to apply in the shower area, as the constant hot water does impact on the adhesive back of tile

It is up to you to measure your own backsplash and do your own math, Susie! And if you do not know how go back and get a GED. Not his job to figure out your costs! Pay a handyman if you want someone to figure it out for you. These videos are not here for you to take advantage of, but for information only. And a darn good video and very helpful. I subscribed but sure he does not need you on his list!

It’s really not that difficult to figure out. Maybe you have someone who can help you. No need to jump all over her. I get it, it’s fun to put people down, it feels good right? Some just aren’t at all good with math. Seriously get over yourself already. I am sure she has other areas that she does great in.

Wish I knew this before I bought them. The sides being "staggered" instead of just a straight line is RIDICULOUS!! The 1' x 1' are then NOT 1' x 1' when you cut them. I have a 2' wall......so need 2 pieces across, right? WRONG, because now I have to cut another small strip just to cover the excess that should already have been covered if the pieces weren't staggered. Should be all straight edges....... peel and stick and DONE!! This should NOT be a project! TERRIBLE!!!
