Thank you Art for what you do and for letting us come along. It is so hard to imagine the destruction of entire communities and with so many people being in the hills, simply having the road in and out can be a lifesaver in itself. Fascinating to watch and my heart goes out to all. Thank you again and blessings to all so terribly affected.

So much expense in building roads/driveway, power poles & installation, gravel, well, septic & foundation to name just a few of the huge expenses! What great volunteers & donors helping the poor residents that had their lives turned upside down. This will be needed for the next year or more. It's only been over a month!💔

Thank you for doing whatever you can to help. I've heard from some people that the clean up may be generational. That your kids'' generation and maybe even their kids will still be working on getting the land back to how it was, and I believe it. Oh, things will start to look normal before that, but not if you look deep. We still see the damage from mudslides and flooding we had decades ago. The closest thing I have to compare it to around here is the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. You can still see the damage at the bottom of the mudslide flows if you know where to look even 44 years later. The immediate blast zone will never be recovered by nature, because nothing will ever grow in it. Nothing can, it made the ground poison. It petrified the trees, drove ash and volcanic sand deep into them and laid them flat. You can't even burn them for firewood as they won't burn. You can't build with them. They won't rot. When I saw all the trees where you are laid flat after the storm it brought back flashbacks. And yet, I have never seen anything so bad as the hurricane damage from Helene. There are places where your mountains have been scraped bare that may take centuries to reaccumulate enough soil for anything to grow in again. It's insane that you are not getting the type of federal help that you should be.

If they begin to plant small…. Cat tails, wild breeds of asparagus, flowers that help to build the ground strength…. It will come back sooner than you might expect…but it has to be plants that thrive in the wild and that can handle the temp changes…. Plus it will provide nourishment for the wild animals that have lost a lot of food sources…

Art between you and the Rhodes family is how I found out about all the damage in Western North Carolina from the Hurricane. I have a friend in North Carolina that I can't get in contact with. I live in Oklahoma she lived next door to me . They moved to North Carolina because her husband's parents lived there. Her husband died of lung cancer 4 years ago.Her son went to Canada 2 years ago to get married to someone he met online. He is not planning to come back I have no way of getting in touch with him. She had a step daughter that was going and buying her groceries. But I have no idea how to get in touch with her .Her name is Sheri Liske . Prayers 🙏 and Love 🤟 From Ginger

@dixierobinson2606Ай бұрын
I live in the disaster area. FEMA has been everywhere trying to get to everyone but they are not builders or construction. That is not their job. Their job is strictly to be a financial aid and reimbursement. The first responders have been the National Guard, the Coast Guard, several different military units and state level groups. We have of course seen numerous private aid groups that have really helped. Please remember that many of the small roads are private and it will take private help. Also, unfortunately, the government divisions will focus on the repairs that serve the most people the quickest. I live behind a collapsed bridge and we will not see a permanent fix for a very long time. We are able to drive across a temporary “ford” but it will not last forever. The road from my area to where my church is (7 miles) is not scheduled to be completed for 2 years since the flood washed out not just the road but all the useable land.

@@dixierobinson2606 Ppl don't think about what FEMA is actually supposed to be doing. I get it I would be wondering the same thing if I was in their shoes, Where is FEMA?? Someone should be telling everyone what FEMA'S job actually is. FEMA should be contacting the ppl who lost everything and putting them in their trailers. My opinion is FEMA has not done a very good job of communicating with the ppl who are affected by Helene.

FEMA and I believe the USDOT (via grants) can provide financial assistance for the restoration of private roads. Everyone with a residence on the private road must apply for assistance from FEMA. Hopefully, they've been able to assist in some way. ❤

@SC-bg2lv I'm surprised that either help with private roads at all. The law in NC is that unless a road is built out 80%, it's a private road. It can be maintained through an agreement with the local municipality or via HOA.

Art, I'm a long-time viewer, and I know you want our honest opinions. I started watching this channel because it was filled with family content and continued for the same reason. It has never mattered to me who was talking, either you or Bri, but the family or homestead was always central. I know that helping people is important to you, especially during this difficult time that could go on for years. My question is: How long do you plan to continue to make the hurricane the focus of your family channel? I know it is an important topic, and I don't want to diminish it, but why abandon your original channel for it. You could create a second channel generating twice the income by following the hurricane, unless you are following the hurricane full time. Whatever your choices, please know that you are loved in all that you do.
