My husband has a degree in Forestry. Whenever we would go on hikes, with the children when they were younger, he would always point out what trees were growing at different altitudes. He told them about different associations of trees. Sight specific trees, etc. Every hike was a wonderful “lesson” about nature. Precious memories! Thanks for sharing your memories with us!

Such a peaceful vibe, thank you for taking us along. In my younger days I worked for the National Park Service and I was on a team who went out to see the winter damage and document where the summer maintenance crews would hike in, clean up the trail before it opened for hikers. Nice. 🥰. I’m in the woods all the time. I fish I get berries etc… I have my back pac and I carry charcoal tablets always just in case I’m stuck and run outta water. I make my own dried meals- just need to add water. A small kettle that holds tea, coffee, matches - if I got lost- I’d be comfortable at least. I LOVE seeing someone else doing hikes. Its been thrown under the wifi and forgotten about. Ppl just can’t be bothered. I don’t get in as often when harvest starts though but when it’s finished, it’s an overnight hike 👍👍🐾🐾

This was a fabulous video. I loved how you shared the trail with all of us. Good job to Justice !!! First overnight backpacking trip. Hopefully it planted a seed for many more. This was so relaxing.......so many videos I watch of through hikers are all about making 20 plus miles a day. This is a reminder......to hike your own hike. I would love to be able to do just a few miles a day and enjoy every second of it......not worried about making "X" number of miles. This was super nice. Oh....and the umbrella thing.....yeah.....great idea. I have hiked in a raincoat just on a day hike and you sweat your bum off......also kayaked in rain.....raincoats are miserable !!!!

I grew up hiking in British Colombia Canada. I remember getting my very own umbrella. We hiked in the rain no problems, If you didn't like the rain, you would rarely get out in the warmer weather. Then we moved to Las Vegas NV...total shock to my young, acclimated to the forests, streams and mountains of the Pacific NW self. I adjusted for 30 yrs then began my own meanderings. I do love these videos of the Appalachian Mtns of NC and surrounding states. The first video I saw of Art was him driving and pointing out abandoned homesteads and giving suggestions of ways to contact owners. The landscape around them is stunning

Thank you so much for this exquisite video! For our general culture, now so much inside buildings and in cities and often behind computer/phone screens (not that those aren't also appreciated, for many reasons including just watching this video!) the wildness that still remains out there seems to be, more and more, just seen as something apart, to be tamed, seized and exploited, controlled--or basically avoided. And the fact that we are not separate from nature, but a part of it, becomes forgotten. If more of us were able to get out regularly (specially from cities) and experience how dependent we are on nature everywhere, for our very existence; and feel how inter-connected everything is, and the deep sense of the sacred that is present in all of it . . . what a different, more peaceful, mutually cooperative, less angry world we might live in! Art you are an amazing guide, companion and storyteller--whether on the farm, parenting, building, or hiking. Hope you and Bri get to continue to do whatever you each are born to do, in all directions! Love the varied topics and viewpoints that spring up so naturally in your videos, both separately and together. 🌻🌻❤ Thank you.

That orange mushrooms looked like chicken of the woods. Hiking is by far my most favorite thing to do. Year's back we hiked to the top of the highest mountain in Gatlinburg. My husband carried our 2 yr old at the time. Our 12 yr old boy never complained. It took us over 10 hrs to hike up that thing, grab a bite to eat and then back down we went. We actually didn't even intend to go to the top, but some locals convinced us to. Once we got to the top, it down poured and we didn't get to enjoy the glorious view because the clouds took over. 😂😂😂 still so worth it. We made great memories. Hiking and camping is what we all enjoy the most.

What a great walk. We have been out east in the mountains off and on for years and what beauty there is there. Hubby and I are both in our mid 70's and wish we would have had the time to just go and spend a few days on the AT when we were able to climb up hill. Gravity is our friend now. We were busy raising babies and homesteading and just never got the chance when we were younger. We have driven the Blue Ridge Parkway in sections several times and gotten out to do some exploring now that we are retired. Just love it out there. We are from central IL where it is pretty much flat and you can see for miles and miles. Thanks for sharing your hiking. Justice did an awesome job!
