I took a charcoal portrait drawing class last week, and it's so true what you said about being afraid to use darker values, I really tried not to go too dark because I was afraid of losing detail but because of that my portrait ended up looking too flat lol Also, now that I have experience working with charcoal, I have a deeper appreciation for your skill at it. You can totally "be the teacher" and nobody would question it, in my honest opinion.

The villain's, so many good ones. It's an excellent idea! Charcoals a perfect medium for that. There is a noticeable improvement in your faces. All the practice is working!

@@LouiseStigell You're welcome! Oh and one suggestion for your villainy portraits. Raymond Massey as Jonathan Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace. He scares me even now! I can't watch that movie at night. lol

I think Michael Jackson from either Thriller or Ghosts clips - Not exactly a villain, but feels like a classic when it comes to scary face/portraits :D . There are some good portrait frames with him in those video clips that you could use. Other suggestions: Dracula ( Gary Oldman movie), Frankenstein Monster ( From the black and white movie, I have this very clear image of a contrasts black and white portrait you can pull off in your style). Hope this helps :D

I am working on new painting right now and you really encouraged me to add more contrast to my work. 😉

Nandor the Relentless feels like a great subject for that challenge! And on a more actually sinister note, would love to see (either of them, or both) the twin chefs from Little Nightmares.
