Even his walking stick well designed. That loop is great.

Fascinating video and good interviewer skills, but the audio engineer should be sacked for miking Rams so poorly and then failing to even out his voice which varies widely in volume as he turns his head.

the main thing is that rams' English is not fluent.

or just, you know, trained to be able to do better at it. Firing someone isn't very kind, you know, in a world where precarity is a significant factor... And his English is just fine. He may search for words now and then, but... so do I, sometimes, and I'm a native speaker. What of it?

Its so ironic how dieter is giving this speech about design in the purest form and one of those things is function. The function of recording this interview is also for us to hear it right and the audio just sucks ass. How did they manage to screw it up. ArtCenter College of Design you screwed up that part... Non the less i enjoyed the interview

I was Listening to this excited to hear what he had to say, to put it simply, whoever was in charge of the sound (and i say this sitting beside a friend of mine who happens to be in the music production industry), is thoroughly to blame. While subtitles should have also been used because of his accent, this was the sound guys fault completely. I'm seriously into this stuff so getting the chance to listen to Dieter Rams is like getting a chance to talk to Yoda. Could you imagine if Luke landed in that swamp and thats as well as he could hear him? The entire galaxy would've been fucked. #killthefuckingsoundguynrapehimwithboommic

Brilliant designer, but he's not much for pithy comments or great storytelling -- at least not in English. Good thing his work speaks for itself.

Completely agree. Back when I was in college I was so fascinated with him that I wanted to see every possible talk available online. I remember watching his one hour speech which was soooo painful to finish since I did not want to look like a hypocrite in my own eyes. Later on I realized that Deter is not much of a story teller, he likes to narrate his experience in the purest fashion, its upto you what you take from it. He does not glorifies or oversells anything, he is just being passionate about the thing he loves

These designers were so humble, down to earth and not pretentious. Nowadays you are booked to be interviewed as a product designer and you have to behave like a tik tok clown.

I can’t tell you how long I’ve looked for a longform interview with Dieter. But whoever dealt with the audio should be fired. To look to your left and put a close-up mic to your right lapel is idiocy. Especially with someone who wags their chin back and forth all over the stage. I’m sorry, but it ruined the entire video and I had to give up after two minutes. I so wanted to watch this I was so excited when I saw the description but the audio just ruins it for me. Again so sorry.
