Pros: 1. Small Size (positive if you wanna carry it in backpack, negative for pros) 2. Articulation Screen (for positioning your shots well and vertical shots of insta) 3. No record limit (for podcasts, interviews, live sessions) 4. No overheating (good for handheld vlogs) 5. Good Port Flaps (Weather sealed, can use it in rain, doesn't create noise) 6. A7siii Color Science (This is a must, no color grading for those who like it) 7. Eye Autofocus (This is a must) 8. Gyro Data (for Stabilization in post production for a little crop) 9. Simple Button Layout (which can also be a con as usually pros buy at this price range) 10. The shutter sound is awesome (personal preference of arthur) Cons: 1. Small Grip (pros will have a hard time, nothing to worry about if you have a strap) 2. EVF is not good (not a problem if you are not using this for money making or vlog) 3. Max shutter is 1/4000sec (you can't shoot at noon and against the sun) 4. 1 SD card slot (not a problem for ameteurs, problem for wedding photographers) 5. No custom buttons (not a problem if you dont shoot weddings or in different lighting at once) 6. no 4k60 (not great if you make commercials and wedding vids, no problem for vlogs or etc) 7. Old Sensor (personal preference, nothing to worry about) 8. Old Menu (this is an inconvinience for everyone) 9. Rolling shutter (nobody notices this if its not exactly commercial video) 10. Overpriced (yes its 200$ overpriced, my personal opinion) - So, for vloggers, get a 20mm 1.8 lens with this and you're good to go. - for general people and one man army who just want a good full frame camera, go for it with the kit lens then buy a 20mm 1.8 or 85 mm 1.8 or 50 mm 1.8 as you start to know your preference and field of work. - For commercial and wedding shooters who will color grade and use a gimbal and usually be standing behind the camera anyway, buy the a7iii instead. you will get a ton of mileage from that.

For vlogging I prefer the versatility of the 16-35mm f/4 though it's an additional $200. Well honestly for vlogging I wouldn't even use a mirrorless camera actually, would prefer an action camera since the stabilization is superior.

I bought one last year before Christmas. I have to say my favorite feature of A7c is the gyro stabilization which is super useful for me. I don't need to bring gimble with me when I go out with kids, I can just bring the camera and take photos and videos. This makes the usage rate a lot higher. I've had the Sony A7c for a while for photography and it's fallen more and more to my liking as time goes on, so I actually no longer use my Sony A9 and consider selling it. The size is perfect for me and I love that the viewfinder puts in the side of the camera as I prefer that way of photographing. For the viewfinder I have bought an eyecup, and now the viewfinder has become really good to work with. I absolutely love the Color Science, and now I often only photograph in jpg. My only downside with the camera is that the LCD screen could well be more high resolution, but it is still possible to work with in most situations. Regarding the smaller number of buttons and wheels on the camera compared to, for example, Sony A9, it is not a problem for me as I switched the buttons and wheels that are to the ones I use the most. I always use focus tracking, so I do not need a button / wheel to move focus around with, as I just lay the focus point with focus -tracking on the subject that should be in focus and then I can move the subject where I want in the viewfinder or on the screen. I think it's much faster that way too. Many greetings Jess

I like choice! The nice thing about Sony's systems is there are a lot of options for people - sure to be something that works for almost everyone. For me it fell between the A6600 and the A7iii. Now, the problem with the A7iii for me is limited recording time. The a6600 is a popup screen but is an aps-c sensor. We are splitting hairs here, but if you are just starting out and want to have small setup for run and gun, this works perfectly. Now, you could wait for a7IV but I believe it is going to be about $2000 and will not be out for 3-6 more months. So, for me it is the perfect fit!

The reason we have two a7c are close up for the vow's, if I need to zoom in post it will look as good or better than the a6600. A6600 were on sale for $1000.00 a7c were $1500.00. Now getting lens that are 1.8 or 1.4 are a lot more than APSC. If we are filming a couple doing a love story-love walk, I will use three camera's and two GoPro's at the same time so they will only have to do that one time.

Your illustration of the gyro stabilization starting at around 4:05, is very nice - the bottom frame showing you filming with A7C (and showing the amount of camera shake) adds perspective as to how much stabilization could be expected for the given amount of camera shake (which would not be conveyed if only the top left and top right frames [showing the unstabilized and gyro-stabilized footage] were included). One small piece of info missing from the details is what software was used to render this gyro-stabilized footage (Catalyst Browse? Anyway, I guess it may not matter too much).

Great video as always Arthur! The A7C is my favorite camera, but your criticisms of it are completely valid. The EVF especially is egregious and I wish Sony had just dropped it entirely. I purchased the A7C for two reasons - the side-flipping screen, and USB-C charging. I use Sony's ECM-B1M hotshoe shotgun mic, so the upwards flipping screen of the A6000 line never worked for me, despite how much I love those cameras. I am however very surprised that USB-C wasn't listed as one of your positives. The fact that I can bring a single charger to top off my smartphone, laptop, and now camera, is a huge plus for me. I really hope that Sony releases a future A7CII with more improvements, but based on how negative people seem to be reacting to the first iteration, I'm less sure we will see a new revision. Its a shame, using this thing is a dream.

This camera seems purposely handicapped to me so as not to cannibalize the main line. A bummer but understandable. It’ll hurt sales though.
@KrunoslavStifter3 жыл бұрын
Probably not. Sony simply makes a ton of camera models for virtually every single need and or budget so people are free to choose. Sometimes they don't offer all the features because of target audiences, saving on production costs etc.
@falcongunner333 жыл бұрын
@@KrunoslavStifter You just said exactly what I did. The camera is handicapped to appeal to an audience that doesn’t need all the features of the big boys, but also won’t sway a buyer of the main line away to the A7C. Thus hurting the potential sales of the A7C.
@KrunoslavStifter3 жыл бұрын
@@falcongunner33 I did not say that. You claim it's handicapped on purpuse and I claim it is not a handicap but a niche product. It's not the same thing. You imply Sony had a miletious intent and I implied they are serving a niche market.
@falcongunner333 жыл бұрын
@@KrunoslavStifter so if you’re saying that I am implying something, then I didn’t actually say it. If Sony had “malicious intent” for anything they would not be in business. So what market is the niche for the A7C? It is objectively handicapped by its old software, small grip, lack of programmable buttons, and limits on video recording. Those are limits that affect both the photo and video based users. As mentioned in the video, at its price there are more attractive options than the A7C within Sony’s own lineup that don’t have limitations one way or another. It doesn’t even have a unique pro level function like the A7S and it’s super low light functionality or the A7R’s high megapixel count and even the A99’s insane shutter speed. Those are the real niche products. This is supposed to be good at everything for the everyday user but has limitations from Sony and is overpriced. It’s more of a head scratcher than anything else.
@twentyfifthjt78883 жыл бұрын
Let's put it like this: Smaller Grip -> Intentional. The niche that ever asked for a small gripped FF camera or complemented the A6000-A6400 grip has never existed. There is no reason for the grip to be shorter than the mounted kit lens as long as it fits an average adult human hand. They just want to inconvenience you to a pricier body as you flash that full frame grin while crying internally. Active Stabilization - Intentional. It is a software buff, they could add/remove this for shits & giggles. They could argue that the processor couldn't handle it... but some form of 1080p footage could have handled the compromise. Then again it would give this a clear advantage against the A7iii. New Menu - Stupid intentional. Doesn't even take processing power. Doesn't even provide a real advantage in terms of results. It could have been a feel good thing... which keeps 1st time users in the system/brand. Now its just a feel bad thing that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Single SD - Possibly intentional, I mean I don't know if it could fit. If it could've then it would be a shame. This is the only acceptable one, and would be enough, if the goal was to separate the A7C from the "Pro" A7 bodies. (I'm not sure if the 1/4000 shutter speed is an acceptable distinction, if it would require a more robust/bulkier shutter mechanism then it would be understandable.. but I don't know) At this point, I would prefer an A6600 type body + APSC sensor with the above features as a 2nd camera than the A7C (currently running an A7iii + A6400). Sometimes I wonder if they'll ever make BSI APSC sensors.

Actually there are quite a few: Samyang small lenses series (35mm f/2.8 'tiny but mighty' being the iconic one), Sigma I-series of more premium lenses, new Viltrox lenses, Tamron lenses are relatively small, a couple of Sony's own e. g. 35mm f/1.8, 20mm f/1.8, 24mm f/1.4, etc. FF will have more decent options for the small setup than APS-C soon if not already.

Hi i wanted also to get some answers. I also watched your comparison on a6600 vs a7c. But i still cant decide. In the place i am now the local rate for a6600 + 18-135mm is 4,799-4999 and a7c + 28-60mm 6,999. I know they both have rolling shutter problem. I like the flip up screen more the flipout but it's not an issue if the flipout will give me more options. Now is it reasonable to get a7c for added 2000 vs a6600? Ill use it mainly for vlogs before a7c i really dream of getting a6600 but now that i have more choices its harder to choose. I came from canon sl3 which by the way also a flip out screen and a good auto focus in 1080p. But i really like to have sony camera so i sold it and wanted to upgrade for better video quality.

@@CavenInToTheWorld Hi Caven! I had exactly the same doubts as you. I’ve just got the a7c and I did a tutorial in Spanish at kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4S1gotmq9elj6c However, if you are planning on use it mostly for blogging, the best choice would be the Sony a6600 as it uses the same high capacity battery, better grip, flip up screen as you are used to, same eye autofocus tracking, no record limit and best of all, far cheaper than the a7c. I would confirm that the main difference between both is that the a6600 is an APS-C and the a7c a full frame sensor. Take care and I wish you a nice day. Isma TEC
@CavenInToTheWorld3 жыл бұрын
@@ismatec thanks for that one. But is it stable enough to not irritate the viewers? Because unlike a7c it doesn't have the gyro that can be later on used to stabilized the video. Before these two im looking at canon m6 ii vs a6600 but when i saw potato jet comparisons that a6600 wins in video quality vs m6 ii but m6 wins in stabilization. Why didn't sony put it on a6600 even just the active steady shot even give just another crop ill just use a wide angle lens to compensate rather than give the OSS and IBIS but only works on photos. I owned sony fdr x3000 and the optical stabilization with that is way better and until now i can say it still hold up to newer competitions. Why didn't sony apply the same Optical Stabilization on A6600. Is it because it will worsen the rolling shutter problem? I just don't get it. I personally like optical stabilization for low light than digital stabilization.

The shutter sound is awesome. I really like it!

The number one reason to buy this camera is the catalyst browse stabilisation. Its almost gimbal quality and with the latest updates, you can just use any lens with it and get great videos!

Ive been vlogging with a GoPro and got the A7c to up my game. with the smallrig cage it makes it a lot easier to hold. I came down to two options the A7sIII and a cheap lens or a good lens and the A7c and I am happy with my choice.
@mirrorlessny3 жыл бұрын
doesn't the cage add significant weight to the package? are you using a handle or grip to hold the camera? I'm using the Sony tripod/remote handle with A7s3 (no cages)

If you had to choose between the A7III and the A7C witch would you choose? Want to upgrade from my a6500
@thegrayyernaut3 жыл бұрын
A7III for me. Because many Sony full-frame lenses are huge anyway, having a more comfortable body to hold is a plus. And it's not like the A7III can't be small. I can just slap on one of those new Sigma DN lenses and it's as compact as I need it to be. A7III also scales better the more you want to improve your photography, since it has more custom buttons and functions.

The grip is shallower, because the body is deeper. Maybe the designers wanted the body without a lens to be as compact as possible. Maybe they should have prioritised ergonomics instead.

This is a really well thought out video! Subbed! I'm used to the EVF on the RX100mV... Do you think I'll be ok with this one? As for $1400 for the A7C, I think that would only happen when A6600 is all sold out, discontinued and Sony made an A6800 in the size of the RX100 series ;-) The lack of 4K 60FPS on the A7C is really what kept me from getting one...

Great video Arthur. Trying weigh the pros and cons of these different Sony models. Right now I am leaning toward the A7R III. I could get a used one without a lens for close to what the A7C costs The biggest question I have right now is when is Sony going to finally release a new sensor and deal with the rolling shutter problem.
