Where this can become confusing is when you go to the genitive form of nouns, where "an" is "the" for masculine singular nouns but "na" is "the" for feminine singular nouns in the genitive. I know, noun genders, and the genitive of nouns, are wholly different subjects! But thought I would mention it, as someone will get confused about it later, and maybe this will put a little nugget in their minds to be extracted later when needed.....

Articles are a variant 'adverb-oids' analogous to pointing pronouns this, that etc - Notice similarity with The?

So do nouns not ever mutate after "an"? Coming from Cornish where we would say "an gath", I'm going to have to learn how Irish does it differently.

@@gaeilgeleeimear4113 go raibh maith agat. Cats are feminine in Cornish. Gender is one of the most confusing aspects of language for English speakers as I remember from French at school.
