Thanks man! So far of all things, people on here have though giant clam. As strange as it sounds, when you look up images of it, it does look oddly similar! I sent pictures and a description to the paleontologist at a local university months ago. They never responded.🤨

Giant clam. The ribs on the outside and the fine directional striated ridges on the inside. Saying , it’s just not ribs of a chest cavity, you have found a complete thickness of a prehistoric clam shell.

One of them definitely looked like armor or as you mentioned, part of a turtle shell. This area was covered by shallow seas back in those days from what I’ve read, so that would make the most sense. Thanks for the input man!

The etching on the one side changed directions within the same piece which would not happen on a clam, their ribs are formed concentrically with growth like the rings of a tree. Also the inside would be smooth. How heavy are the pieces? Do they feel like pottery? The ribs could have been formed by the wave action of the river and the back could have been brushed for traction like concrete. You may have found a native river launch site to stay out of the mud. Just a theory. Neat find whatever it is.
@alexreh5459

Or maybe the ribs are the tracks of canoes in the mud from before the landing was installed

Do you tend to find more artifacts on the high side or the low side of the river banks? More specifically, do you find them more often on the side that floods easier, or the side that floods with more water?
@Points365
@Points365 Жыл бұрын
I used to think high side… and because of that I mainly stayed on the high sides. But now that I see footprints everywhere I go, I find myself hunting places that I normally wouldn’t. Which has led me to find what’s seems to be just as many on the low sides. But I do have a tendency to find older stuff on the higher sides. Hope that helps answer your question and thanks for checking it out!

Someone told me that a fossil I found similar to that, but it was in the shape of a face skeleton of a giant lizard, was "just the way the water flowed over sand." I got a tad upset, because it literally looks like a face. I gave it to my son. I *did* find a bone from what appears to be raptor eye/cheek socket in the same place a little later, so I think it *is* actually a fossil, or an imprint, of a dinosaur. These are cool.

A while back on another KZbin channel. Can't remember what one. But do know he was in Texas. Anywho, found something similar and had I'd identified as sediment of river bed that was shaped by water/waves /current then hardened and covered over thousands of years. Seriously, FROM WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN THE VIDEO...the back looks like a scratch coat for some old school plastering over a burlap coated form and the rest looks like a form of concrete or something similar that was tooled into that pattern. Especially when you zoom into the cracks! If it is a "fossil", it is an imprint of something. A fossil would be different color, texture, material, etc, from the host rock
