Nice, full length episode! It's important when you mix smaller moments with the characters, as well as the larger story-driven ones. Makes everything seem more "real". Awesome Spfx and green-screen work as well. Congrats Randy, cast, and crew for an excellent job.

The artifacts are painted foam pipe insulators. Very inventive. It's like the original series where they used all kinds of different everyday objects as props.
@Potemkin17119 ай бұрын
They were great. We cut them into similar lengths with an electric carving knife, then had seven or eight cast members sit down and paint them by hand using acrylic paints of different colors, mixing some, and making them all different yet similar. An afternoon hour or so, and voila, Artifacts from a long lost civilization.

TOS had a very limited budget after all it was the 60's there wasn't much in the way of special effects, Even TNG had to do a bit of scrambling to stay in budget. Ironically the shows that probably had the fewest financial constraints had the worst stores. Discovery and Picard. You really don't know till the show wraps and the compendium with episode lists ant BTS stories are published.

I am enjoying your extensive catalogue! I am curious, is there a "making of" video? The large and very long standing sets are quite detailed , always curious about how they were built, stored, and the props, costumes, spx etc which all seem very complex! The gizmos on the wall in sickbay with the running lights, very cool! Kudos to whoever made them, the sets, and also to the cast and producers. Thanks for this labour of love, and I look forward to seeing more from the crew!

I'd recommend joining our Facebook group Starship Webster and following the Potemkin Pictures page. Plenty of BTS shots, as well as the construction photos if you look back far enough. The EPS regulators "gizmos" were constructed by Carl Marchese. Costuming is now off-the-rack, and we purchase the pins from eBay. All in all, we have a great time producing Star Trek fan films!

This is a good episode but i would have like to see a bit more of the story from the end credits of Exiled from Eternity leading up to the "Artifacts" episode's beginning scenes even if it was only a short one as it would give better context for this episode.

The idea was meant to be a sort of 'lost episode' thing, and it was improvised at first when Chelsey Boston (Lt. Oden Madigan) picked up the multi-faceted prop and became possessed in the post-credits scene. We carried it forward, and it culminated with the improvised possessed-Madigan on the bridge of the Webster laughing maniacally. We thought it would be a fun back story, and we'd all like to think it worked. 😉

Fascinating episode. I loved how the innovative people saved their civilization. Of course they were very lucky that it was a Federation ship that discovered them. I would hate to think what would have happened if it had been Romulans or Klingons. It looks like Navigator Madigan intends to stick with the ship after all. I hope it gets more comfortable for her.

Nice job all. Suggestion: the dialog microphone is too far from actors. Especially on wide shots..making too much room ambiance. Add sound absorbing panels and some carpeting on set and get mics closer with a directional pattern. This will help reduce a subtle distraction for the viewers. Thanks
@Potemkin17119 ай бұрын
Just not in the budget at this time, and unlikely to be in the future. Honestly, we've made substantial improvement with every production. But all the things you suggest cost money and time which we, as a real fan film, just don't have.

This is terribly OCD of me, but if Dr. Reagan told Lieutenant Madigan that she shouldn't be on duty for more than six hours a day, does that mean Webster has four duty shifts?
@Potemkin17119 ай бұрын
In The Lower Decks, they have four duty shifts. You end up working 42 hours avg per week. There are many different versions of this for any ...enterprise... running 24/7.
